*****Official Ivybridge Review Thread*****

Judging by most online stores there is still plenty of stock of Sandy chips. Can't see them dropping the price much, can see Ivy being more expensive in that case.

We need to encourage more people to buy SB and when inventories deplete IB will drop to the point we can step up and buy.

I have been without a pc for so long now, and the last week has nearly killed me!!! Can't wait to jump to a 4.2ghz ivy and 8GB ram instead of this 1.5ghz 1GB laptop :P

I posted on price forum - but considering dropping prices of hex-cores - and if starting afresh (new mobo) would people think its worth (assuming 3770k will be £260+) - about £160 more for a 3930k system ?

usage is mainly gaming with a vid of photo/video editing

but I'm thinking that it'll be very future proof for near future ?

Hi there

We shall be launching IvyBridge at introductory special pricing, were reversing the usual trend of a new product having a high price then dropping, we shall do the opposite, low price which shall go up.

As such 3770k is same price as 2700k, see our website and 3570k more or less same price as 2500k, these are retail and we shall only be selling retail to start with. :)

Will this Introductory special pricing be a tomorrow only thing, or can I phone my order through on Monday for one at that price?

So, going by Gibbos post prices are as follows:
3770k: £240
2570k: £162 (approx).

Given those prices (assuming that you shop around), if you want hyper-threading, it is better value to buy a 2600K.
If you don't need hyper-threading, then buy the 2500K.
If you need a stronger on-die GPU, or encode video, then buy IB.
If you need to drive 3 monitors from on-die GPU, then buy IB.
If you want the latest and greatest, buy IB.
If you will not be overclocking, buy IB.

Given the pricing, for most, I would recommend a Z77 board, with an SB CPU (2500K if no HT, or 2600K if you need HT).

Pricing really is key to the SB vs IB decision.
