** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

Thats the thing, It's bit of a short term solution, we seem to be doing fine at the moment, so why buy a player that will be no good in 6month time?

Then again, no one knows if he won't be any good in the premiership, obviously not world class but could be useful

I think it depends. We are going to be relegation candidates when we go up, if Beckford gets 5+ goals that's probably going to be considered a success and worth the £1.5m.

Look at Zamora, he was playing League 1 standard football a few years ago and look at him now. I'm not saying it'll be the same with Beckford but we've got no money and £1.5m on Beckford seems like a risk we should take.

United should try and prise Joe Hart off Man city. I don't think he would cost anywhere near £20mil, and he is a good keeper with age on his side too.

I don't think he has the attitude to play in the Prem, he scores a lot for us due to the quality around him. Most saw how he fared against Liverpool in the Carling Cup earlier on in the season and that summed him up.

£1.5m is nothing to Leeds, if it costs them a place in the Championship at the end of the season. If it is a straight choice between not selling and going up, and selling and not going up, the fee for him would need to be a lot higher - which we wouldn't get for him with his contract up at the end of the season. The only thing is, Bates and Grayson have both said that they don't need to and won't sell him, even if that does mean he leaves for free at the end of the season.

Playing League 1 standard in the Prem? :D

To be fair to him, he done ok vs us. It was only really his finishing that let him down but we've played against worse strikers than him this season.

It's being strongly reported that we're close to agreeing a deal to sign Maxi Rodriguez on loan until the end of the season and possibly him then signing permanently on a bosman in the summer.

Players with 6 months left on contract:

Maxi Rodriguez (Atletico Madrid, 28)
David James (Portsmouth, 39)
Christoph Metzelder (Real Madrid, 29)
Juliano Belletti (Chelsea, 33)
Philippe Senderos (Arsenal, 24)
Fabio Aurelio (Liverpool, 30)
Martin Petrov (Manchester City, 30)
Michael Ballack (Chelsea, 33)
Joe Cole (Chelsea, 28)
Adam Johnson (Middlesbrough, 23)
Marouane Chamakh (Bordeaux, 25)
Ruud van Nistelrooy (Real Madrid, 33)
Joe Ledley (Cardiff, 22)
Tomas Rosicky (Arsenal, 29)
Jermaine Beckford (Leeds, 26)
Morten Gamst Pedersen (Blackburn, 28)
Paul Scharner (Wigan, 29)
Louis Saha (Everton, 31)
Adriano (Flamengo, 27)

Could get some bargains out of that lot.

Joe Cole wont move anywhere (I would love to see him at Utd but it just wont happen)

Its only been left this long because he wanted to see whether he could get back to full fitness after a serious long term injury (which it looks like is happening pretty well from what Ive seen)

If Wenger does decide to bring in a striker I reckon we should maybe put in a bid for Pavlechenko, Redknapp seems open to the idea of him leaving and he might relish the opportunity to link up with Arshavin again. Plus he wouldn't need to relocate.

Said this earlier in the thread, but apparently he's not Arsenal standard.

He wouldn't be that bad at Arsenal tbh.

I've heard that Zezinho and Wellington have all but signed - Wenger must have been playing FM :p

That's the problem with Wenger signing all these kids, he's probably not old enough to fly without his parents is he? Must have to wait another year.

More than likely it's actually Brady and the Arsenal Scouting team who are researching/signing the kids, he certainly has budget and approves a fair few of the transfers (Jamie Edge for example) Although this is a high value transfer (3.5m) Wenger may have had some input.

Brazilian under 18's can't play in other leagues until they are 18 so it makes sense to keep him over there.

Apart from he's ****. :p

I've not seen much of that Bordeaux forward, Chamakh. I wonder if he's any good, I couldn't find much on YouTube.

We're missing Bender I think, when he comes back in we should find it slightly easier to penetrate the edge of the box, and at least we'll be able to have one or two threats from the set piece.

Eduardo has been dire of late but he just needs more games and he'll sharpen up.

If Wenger does buy a striker I think Gignac is the most likely.

Not too expensive, not CL cup tied, French, relatively young.
