** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

The team needs a re-jig again. Obviously Fergie has done that time and time again but the money situation doesn't seem to be the same as before.

There's so many players way past their best and some that haven't made the grade.

Given the state of the top of the Premier League and the fact that we're only 2 points off of Chelsea I'd argue we're in no more need of rebuilding than Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are

What that he'd progress more at Real? To almost insinuate that being at Old Trafford is holding him back and for the sake of his career he should move on?

Facts are that very few players go on and improved themselves once leaving United and I find it scandalous to suggest that we're proving to be detrimental to Rooney's career

What are you on about, I never even suggested Manu where holding him back. What I am saying is he could be a hit playing in that league rather than the premier league. Its a little slower and Rooney isn't the fastest and he would have even more time on the ball, which he would thrive on.

The reason players don't get better when they leave OT is because very very few players do actually get better than when they burst on the scene and they are older. Rooney for instance hasn't dominated any international like he did when he played at everton. He's not a better player now than when he was at everton, he's just in a better team and playing at a consistent level.

Whose talking about them, I'm talking about united and lots of the players are past their peak. Don't replace them then. I would say most manu fans would concede to stay at the top they need to buy 4 or more quality players.

You said career wise it would be a great move and that he'd progress at Real, that certainly sounds like to me that you think he's being held back/stagnating/not developing at United

Facepalm

Yeah ok manu are holding him back

It never hurts to go somewhere like a top team in spain with the very best players around him to develope his game, but no you carry on believing that means I meant United are holding him back.

That's quite the point though isn't it, everyone likes to talk about United's short comings and failings yet don't acknowledge it with our main rivals

Looking at the likes of Terry, Carvalho, Lampard, Ballack & Drogba and the fact that they're all in their 30's (well apart from Terry who's 29) I'd argue they're the ones in need of replacements not us not while we have the likes of Vidic, Evra, Evans, Anderson, Fletcher, Carrick, Valencia & Rooney all either in their early to mid twenties or classed as their prime 27/28

Everyone knows that Scholes, Giggs, Neville and Van Der Sar are coming to the end of their careers and everyone has known that now for around 3-4 years but those players aren't the ones that we're relying on week in week out are they.

Who are these players recently then who have gone to Real & Barca and progressed? Kaka? Nope not yet anyway. Benzema? Nope. Henry? Nope. Christ as much as I'll enjoy seeing Fabregas leave Arsenal in the summer I even half expect him to go down a notch or two if he does leave Arsenal as well

Babel to stoke, can't see it happening.

Although not sure what TP is trying to do, looks like he is going to loose Beatie and Kitson

Messi went to Barca and did pretty well for himself.

Kaka is a great player, playing well.

Henry is coming up to the end of his career.

Benzema is starting to find form and playing well.

There are also players like Raul, Van Der Varrt, Diarra, Higuian, Pepe, Ramos, Ronaldo, Alonso, Iniesta, Xavi, Imbra, Alves, Pique, Busquets, Abidal, Toure, Puyol ect ect

I don't think that United are holding him back at all, Infact I think Rooney has improved and will still improve at United.

I'm of the opinion (as I am with several other English players) that they'd really flourish abroad at a club like Real or Barca.

Kaka is not playing well, not to the high standards he set previously anyway. Benzema has flopped big time, he's attitude has shown to be poor also, Van Der Vaart is just laughable that you'd mention him considering Madrid wanted shot of him after just one season, he's only got in the team for the past couple of games due to injuries as for the others you just seemed to have listed a load of players to which I never said that La Liga doesn't have great players hell they've got the two best players in the world just that IMO not many players who have gone there in recent years have improved themselves

Bit like Arsenal with Fabregas then, or Liverpool without Torres

Big shock that if a team lost it's best player they would struggle, funny thing is though everyone said we were a one man team last season with Ronaldo yet Rooney was there then.....

Yeah, exactly, why would Man Utd sell their Rooney? Arsenal aren't in any rush to sell Fabregas, Chelsea with Essien and Liverpool with Torres. Those players make all the difference when the team is going through a rough spell, it'd be madness to let them go

By the way, somebody up there said Rooney 'wasn't the fastest', I've seen a few similar comments, I think he looks very quick and I saw a table that said he was one of the top 10 fastest in the league amongst the likes of Walcott, Ronaldo, Agbonlahor etc, so he can't be that slow

It's his agent I wouldn't trust. I really cannot see it happening but I'd love to see him try his hand in spain just from a spectators point of view.

Don't get me wrong from a spectators point of view I would love to see Rooney rip La Liga to bits for a few seasons, like Ronaldo says, Rooney would be immense in La Liga and he (from a footballing point of view) probably knows him better than anyone.

That was a Nike initiated poll if I remember correctly, only involving Nike sponsored players.

He is **** fast though, watch the goal against Arsenal, the one in the CL semi when we ripped you to bits. Rooney is as fast if not faster than Ronaldo in that move.

Ah ok, I think I remember he was close to Lennon and Walcott though.

Yes, thanks for reminding me and no I will not watch the goal again, once per advert break on Sky Sports is enough :(

Rooney is definitely quick. I remember one goal in particular where him and Ronaldo passed between themselves while counter attacking from the half way line and Rooney was belting it down the pitch.

I was like

IIRC, Lennon was found to be the quickest, with Agbonlahor 2nd and Walcott 3rd?

EDIT: Actually, may have been the goal G|mp is talking about
