** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

If he joins Newcastle he'll probably be playing PL football next season. If he stays at Leeds it will be the season after at the very least. He's 26 now doesn't have long to have a shot at the PL, it's a bit harsh to **** him off because he wants to play at a higher level.

No. He wants money, all he's ever wanted. Remember this isn't the first time he's done this.

Maxi has now supposedly signed for Liverpool, £1.5m on an 18 month contract.

Great signing, hopefully should be available for the weekend too.

Unless he's had his medical in Madrid, I doubt he's actually signed yet because if he'd been over in Liverpool people would have known (and iinm the airport was closed yesterday too). Probably agreed personal terms and just needs to have his medical.

In other news Birmingham are rumoured to have increased their bid for Babel to £10m+. I guess the main stumbling block is going to be whether the money stays within the club; if the money's going to vanish then even that lazy **** is worth keeping.

Babel will get to play week in week out at Birmingham or at least have more time on the pitch then at Liverpool I imagine, which could help him develope in to a better player (or just prove what we all think)

Thank god for Birmingham and Man City. Without those two I really can't see anything interesting happening this month whatsoever.

If Birmingham spend whats been reported then they will be the next Portsmouth.

Don't really see the logic in this attitude; if the club have debts, then they need to be paid at some point. It's like a guy who works with who says there is "no point" paying off his credit card because then they might reduce his limit and "I'll never get that money back".

I want the leeches **** off and the tighter things get for them, the more likely they are to do that.

Regardless of that, afaik there's no direct instruction that players have to be sold but equally there's no guarantee that any money from sales will stay within the club.

The biggest problem at Liverpool since the American's took over (other than the debt of course) is that there's no clear communication from the owners through to the manager. We started the summer transfer window bidding for the likes of Silva and Tevez but ended having to give AEK Athens 1 of our most promising youngsters on loan just so we could sign Kyriakos.

How do you know he doesn't want to play in the PL? He's gonna earn more money at Newcastle but it doesn't mean that's the only reason he might leave. Did he leave Wealdstone just for the money or to be a professional footballer? If a PL club offered him less money than he's on at Leeds I doubt he'd turn it down, I doubt most players would.

When he was first turned down the contract it was purely because his agent wanted to get him money. A lot of clubs were interested then. He wasn't interested in Derby when they were in the Prem as they probably wouldn't offer much in wage.

Not once has he said he wants to play in the Prem.

I hope we ask for a ridiculous fee for him :D

Fair enough. He might be greedy as you say but I still think you should let him go to a club that should be playing in the top division soon, he seems to have served you well and it's not like he owes his life to LUFC.

As for the fee...you can ask for a massive fee but you won't get it. ;) If the price goes over £2m then we'll pull out. Ashley doesn't want to spend anything, we've made profit in god know how many windows now and as it doesn't look like we're selling anyone our budget won't be much over £0m.

Don't you mean, the press think you're bidding on everyone and Benitez wants to sign everyone, but anyone with half an ounce of sense knows you weren't seriously in for anyone big. As for the money staying within the club, the club has debt, the debt gets paid. I don't understand where people think debt just doesn't need to be paid, ever. Considering how much you've been pointing out UTd's debt on the forums, it seems odd you tend to think yours shouldn't remotely effect your buying of players.

The fact is Liverpool would be competitive if they came up with as many half decent 3-8million buys as Wenger, Villa, somewhat Spurs and several other clubs, instead they keep buying the wrong 10million pound players. Likewise, if you blow your load on a defender who can't defend, well, you've blown your load already. There were infinately cheaper options who were just as inept defensively and there were loads of cheaper and better defenders. Frankly theres zero value these days in buying an England international at all, their price is almost instantly 3 times higher than it should be. Laughably people like Defoe who are a much higher standard, were far cheaper, how you paid £17million to a ridiculously desparate club for a player they were being forced to sell I don't know.

While there was mention Chelsea were in for him, I don't buy it, they've got several right backs and Ivanovic is hugely better defensively, solid, tall, very strong and actually very good getting forward with a few important goals to date and a decent cross.

I also question this manager/owners lack of communication, who says so. THe owners haven't seemingly changed tune, recession = no stadium, hardly a quantum physics degree required to work that one out. Recession meant their worth went down and they had less to invest.

Wouldn't turning down Derby be proof he wanted to play in the prem :p

I don't know why people have to knock a player who wants to move on, he's done well for you, given results for the wages he's gotten, and wants to move on, be it for more money or better football..... why should it matter?

But not wanting to play for Derby, who (I'm assuming it was more recently when they were in the prem and not years ago) were very clearly going down. You can't really hope to look like a great striker at a failing club that can't get the ball to the striker, its barely the team to go to, to prove you're premiership quality. Conversely, if Newcastle is the only club to want him, who are almost certainly going up this year and have a decent shot of staying up or at least having an entire season not under pressure in an attacking team, he's got a better chance of proving himself.

He's never said he wants to play in the prem, has he ever come out publically saying he only wants to move for higher wages?

His agent did ;)

I don't begrudge players moving on, especially to a bigger level but ffs give the fans an explanation rather than just wanting more money.

It's the same at any club, how can you possibly wish a player all the best when it comes down to money.
