Again, just because there is no NEED to sell players, doesn't mean to say it isn't a good idea if the numbers stack up. £10m for someone like Babel, plus savings in wages, would go into the coffers and potentially allow spending in future on bringing in new players.
The club should only sell Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and Reina if they get big money offers in excess of their value (every player has a price). But there's a big difference between selling key personnel and subs who seem to want to leave and are starting to mouth off in the press. You are continually telling us how liverpool don't need any forwards, they've got adequate backup in the likes of Ngog, so why wouldn't it make sense to cash in on Babel if that would increase the potential for spending in the future (as I said, money doesn't just vanish if it isn't spent instantly)?
For a start I've not continually said we don't need any more forwards, I said that if and when we sign Maxi Rodriguez we will then not be desperate to sign another striker as that would free up Kuyt to play more up front if needs be. However I also said that if the right player came about then we should look to sign 1 more striker.
Regarding Babel specifically; of course it doesn't make sense to sell him and not replace him when we're in a position like we are. Even with the signing of Rodriguez, imo we're still short of 1 more attacking player so to let Babel go and not replace him wouldn't be a good move.
Babel's transfer value isn't likely to change much between now and the summer however us missing out on a top 4 spot will cost us massive amounts of money. Now I'm not saying that Babel's going to make the difference between us qualifying for the CL or not but right now we need every player we've got.
And I explained why I said the money vanished. 1 of our lovely owners claimed that the money was still available to Rafa and hadn't gone towards paying off debt in the summer, something we now know to be bs.
My understanding is that Arsenal didn't NEED to raise £30m on transfers in the summer either, that's why there is a comparison. Arsenal sold Adebayor when they didn't need to and didn't buy a replacement, same situation as Babel. They sold him because he was overvalued and not a favourite with fans.
Sorry, I wasn't refering to selling players to pay-off the debt more to do with the level of understanding/resentment of Arsenal fans towards their debt and Liverpool fan's to ours.
Regarding Adebayor being sold and no replacement being bought; that is because Wenger didn't think you needed to sign a replacement, as above, we do need every player we have right now.
