Pulling out the Llijaic deal smacks of the Glazer's cutting transfer funds as from all reports he is meant to be quality. Let's be honest £10 million is hardly earth shattering.

I don't think I've ever seen United handle a situation so badly, seems a PR disaster.

I hope this does not mean the end of our spending, our squad lacks a cutting edge, we will be in desperate need of a left winger come August. Obertan has shown glimpses, and he deserves be given a chance and play ahead of Park and Nani. Giggs is still our best option there though.

I actually think PIG is a better keeper than Foster, he has never had a run of games like BF has had. Maybe with 10 games in a row he'd show a lot more confidence around his area; who knows, he needs a chance. He has fantastic reactions.

I think we also have issues upfront, SAF clearly doesn't believe Owen can play in the big games, Berbatov I fear will never quite gain the heights that he sometimes shows glimpses of and more importantly I think he has a negative impact on Rooney.

We are crying out for someone with blistering pace and strength.

Where has all the Berbatov love gone, this surely cant be the usual seeing the blindingly obvious 18 months too late can it?

We are doing well this year, its only taken 4 months for everybody to agree with me about needing another defender, goal keeper, winger and striker at United.
 
I don't think anyone ever said we didn't need another striker. We need more than 2 strikers that can start games really. Owen is fine as an impact sub but not much else at the moment. Berbatov has been excellent so far but is best in a deep role, we need someone who can play up top and stay up top.

Rooney thus far has scored more goals at this stage of the season than ever before, granted that may because he's taking the pens this season which has added 3 to his tally so far but scoring the pens adds to confidence

Berbatov up until the last couple of weeks when it's quite frankly a mystery as to why he hasn't been playing (is he injured, has he been dropped, has it been tactical who knows?) has also been very influential and has scored some very important goals for us

Then you have the 3 backup options, Owen who when he starts gets chances even if his conversion rate thus far has been a little suspect and then the kids Welbeck and Macheda who looks far more promising than the Webber's, Campbell's and Blake's who have come before them. Everyone keeps harping on about giving players like Obertan and Tosic chances well likewise with these two kids. I'm not saying that both or even either will make it but we'll never know if they're not given the chances.

I think another winger has been a given since Ronaldo was sold and more so once it then became abundantly clear that Nani does not have the right attitude to step up. Having said that thought Valencia has been brilliant in his last dozen games or so.

Another defender again I think has only become clear recently since it looks like Ferdinand & Evans especially seem to rather injury prone.
 
Yeah think United definately need another defender, probably two actually, a right back and a centre back. No idea where from tho...

I wouldn't say those positions should be a priority for us. A squad with Evra, De Silva (x2), Delaet, O'Shea, Evans, Ferdinand, Vidic, Neville and Brown is pretty decent defensively. Ferdinand's fitness is a problem and we don't have a world class right back but we have an awful lot of talented and importantly versatile players, who can play in a variety of positions in the back four.

Imo, we should focus on clearing out some of the players who clearly don't have a future with us. We have a big squad, with perhaps too many players of modest ability. Then we can try and bring in a new Goalkeeper, creative midfielder and a striker.
I would prefer to wait another season, to see where we stand with Hargreves, Orbertan, Valencia and Rio before making bigger changes that may or may not be needed.
 
Sol was a great defender in his prime - but at Pompey most of the pace he had seemed to have gone completely. On a short pay as you play deal would be ok, but nothing too long. I cant see Rio ever doing a decent amount of games /season going forward - will be lucky to get 30/35 games (before any -unrelated - injuries come into it) at best, and for Utd that just wont do for 1st choice imo

I hope Evans' fitness comes good - because I think he could be a brilliant player, but he has been really unlucky so far.

Obertan and Valencia should be able to cover wide options for a good number of years between them (and hopefully we will have others in the squad for minor cup games etc)

Im sure there are one or two games in the CL this season you could have done with your 3rd striker getting a hatrick......hmmm actually even getting one goal would have been good :D
