Man City in for Johnson...

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11095_5889669,00.html

Probably a good thing for Boro, Man C will spend most cash I'd imagine.

They'll put in the same offer anyone else would put in, the player will get offered higher wages to make sure he chooses to go to City, that won't help boro in the slightest though.

However City going for wingers does at least suggest Mancini realises Petrov and even more so, SWP, are utterly crap. The fact that he mentioned wanting to get Flamini in also suggests he thinks Zabaleta isn't very good, considering Flamini's played right back a lot this year, and can obviously play left back and central mid, though he doesn't think Flamini will leave, gives an indication of where he thinks the problem is though.

City in a bid to replace the tons of average players they have signed in the past two seasons want to rush and and spend even more money on.........................even more average footballers.

Daily Fail suggests that Mancini is looking to sign Cassano who has fallen out with his manager.....do Man City have a moody **** quotient that they need to fulfil or something? Robinho out, Cassano in?

I've always liked SWP... and I think Petrov has talent, but needs the opportunity to display it regularly. Whether either of them belong at a top 4 club - which is where Man City are clearly aiming for - is a different matter.

Unfortunately for us, it is quite clear that Adam Johnson is going. I hope he sticks it out until the summer. He's been the only positive in what has been a very poor season for us and tbh our only hope of make a push for the play offs/promotion in the 2nd half of the season.

Pompey website is down because they can't afford the £50 a year to keep it running. Rumour has it Pulis has offered to pay the renewal in a swap deal for James. :p

Average would be a MASSIVE step up from SWP, he didn't make a useful or telling pass, run, tackle or really anything last night. Infact the funniest thing he did was, I think against Evans was rather than play the ball which he was closer to, he shoulder barged Evans, and ended up on the floor himself, was hilarious, might of even been a freekick against him.

Awful decision making, incredibly easy to predict and of the couple goals he's got this year I've seen a couple huge deflections off bad shots to go in.

I don't really rate Johnson at all, not as a fantastic future star anyway, but he's leagues above SWP. Petrov may show talent now and then, but he's a one trick pony, played on the right he cuts in at the same point every time, fakes a pass/cross then does a bad pass/cross. Of course the occasional shot/cross goes somewhere useful but mostly not, defensively his positioning is awful, offensively his decision making is terrible, predictable as hell and he's only slightly better on the left wing. Considering how ridiculously bad he is he laughably spends the entire game shouting at Bellamy/Tevez/whoever for every single misplaced pass. Theres a reason he was dropped completely under, Sven, Hughes and seemingly also Mancini after very few games. Theres also a reason he was cheap and Sven got him, and Giovanni, and a bunch of other crap, they are inconsistant trouble makers(Elano also).

Theres a very solid squad there now full of players who are fully capable of winning cups/leagues, but SWP, Barry and Zabaleta, well you won't get away with all three of them putting in their poorer performances. Boyata actually looks very promising for only his 4th or so game and being 19, leagues above Onoura. Richards is a freaking powerhouse going forwards or defensively, complete commitment, no fear, and takes lots of huge hits in tackles and gets up from them all.

If City get a half decent left back, a winger and start playing Ireland over Barry they'll be a really great team.

EDIT:- I might have missed other people talking about it, but is the whole Anderson thing true, on his way out after dissappearing, after yet another woeful performance. Saw a stat, not sure if it was true, that he's played in every Utd defeat so far, really is a terrible player and the only bad thing from an Arsenal point of view is that Fergies finally given up and might replace him with someone half decent.

Eidur Gudjohnsen has had a medical at West Ham, though Spurs are sniffing around. Him and Benni McCarthy will be good signings for the hammers.

According to SSN hes been seen leaving Tottenhams training ground...looks like the Spuds got him before West Ham....West Ham are reportedly livid that Tottenham got him.

More stuff on Smalling;

United had an £8m bid accepted at the weekend for Smalling, who was playing for non-league Maidstone just two years ago.

That included a clause which stated any other club would have to bid £10m to be given permission to talk to him, and yet Arsenal met that demand on Tuesday night.

However, United then went back, matched Arsenal’s offer and finally settled on a £12m deal which will include clauses for appearances and success.

It represents an incredible fairytale rise for Smalling who only made his Premier League debut last month having joined Fulham two years ago from Maidstone for just £10,000.

Smalling was on just £5,000-a-week at Fulham, where he will stay for the rest of the season, before going to United in the summer where he will quadruple his salary.

But Maidstone will not get a penny from the incredible bidding war between Arsenal and United as he was a non-contract player when he left and Fulham paid the transfer fee out of goodwill.

Dunno how true it all is, but that's still a decent enough deal for both parties.

Not sure if this is true either;

But he must wait until next season to pull on a United shirt under the terms of the deal - which rises to £14m depending on appearances and whether he plays for England.

£14m for somebody who's played about 2 games. Oof! That said, Arsenal could really have done with getting him

Again not sure how much of it's true, and i'd say even some of the £12m is performance related. Don't forget he's played against European teams too.

Time will tell with Johnson. He needs premier league experience at a club who will give him regular football. He's got more to his game than Downing did at that age, he's a very skilful player with a few tricks and can put a good ball in the box, whereas Downing was kick and run, his best asset was his crossing ability. Johnson's main problem was being a bit lightweight but that's not so much of an issue any more.

I know, still an absurd amount of money though for somebody who is relatively untried. But if the two greatest managers the PL have ever hosted are both fighting to get him, there must be something about him.

Would have thought strikers is probably the one place you have far too many? :/

Pav is looking out and probably would have got out had it not been for picking up an injury in the Leeds game. And Keane has been useless infront of goal this season. Rafa must have buggered him sideways.

I reckon you got him just to annoy some Hammers.

That said, he's the perfect Keane replacement, given the latter's complete loss of form. Reckon he'd link up well with Defoe.
