** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

Too early to judge whether or not some of the transfers have been worth it. Anderson and Nani may yet show their true potential as they are still very young nor are those transfer fees correct. The one transfer that does stand out to me is Berbatov as he will have nowhere near the same resale value should he or Ferguson decide that it isn't working out.

True, at least with Nani and Anderson they can be sold for a chunk of what they were bought for, the Berbatov deal is mind boggling though, it doesn't make sense any way I look at it.

I also thought Anderson was playing much better this season than I've seen in the past, seems the strangest time to sell him :/

You do realise that Anderson has actually left Utd, went home to brazil and failed to turn up to training for about a week now, is expected to be fined two weeks wages and is being offloaded because he's a useless lump of crap.

Its not surprising after he decides to run away like a big girl that the club decides to dump a player who is very very poor. Though, if the Campbell deal is anything to go by, they'll resign him in 4-5 years :p

I don't see him leaving, especially in this transfer window but who knows. I didn't even expect Ferguson to sign anyone and he did, and it was a defender too, going against what he said at the end of December about not needing to buy one. I don't think our ever changing central midfield for the last 3 years has helped any of the midfielders especially Anderson. He's vowed to lose a little bit of weight and show what's he capable of, especially goal wise as it is surprising to have a brazilian player who can't score. :p

Because he's tearing it up in the championship.... Ameobi/the other long haired one. Being half decent in the championship is MILES away from being good in the premiership, where Johnson showed very little last year.

Unless you think SWP is much better than Johnson, which would be unbelievable.

AS for Anderson, do Utd fans realise(if the stat I read is true) that he's played in all your defeats so far, and is generally completely crap. Only mobile midfielder? what, able to get back? what.

He goes upfield, often running with the ball always chooses the wrong option, passes the wrong way and generally passes and shoots like crap. His "getting back" consists of him running back, fouling someone, getting a card and putting on his little petulant "but I'm brazillian with the great locks man" look.
.

i think your judgement of player ability and potential is questionable to say the least...

Anderson is a potentially great asset. im horrified that we might be getting rid. we will regret this move in 3 years time, i guarantee it.

remember of course we didnt buy a defender for this season - as he is back out on loan to Fulham until the end of the season (and with Vidic rumoured to be leaving and Rio never being the picture of health - its a reasonable investment for future seasons)

What Fergie said was true (in a manner lol) - unless this swap for Lloris for Anderson goes through with Lyon

Yeah, MU's midfield has been a bit of a merry-go round recently, Ferguson should try and settle on a system and stick to it. I imagine the players are finding it difficult to adjust every week. He's always seemed a little fat, but I think that helps in his defensive work, though I'm not even sure if he's a defensive or offensive midfielder any more. He can be very effective in the holding role though (at least against Cesc).

Anderson has always said he's an attacking player, loves to make runs and get into goal scoring opportunities. Over the last few years we've seen glimpses of it depending on how far up the pitch he's allowed to play. Overall he's been deployed as a defensive midfielder, chasing down players, tackling and passing forward. Very rarely does he take the ball forward himself. His long passing can be excellent but inconsistent. The ball is very rarely taken off him and he's incredibly strong on the ball. I think if Hargreaves wasn't injured and played, Anderson would adapt a different role and not have to worry about covering other players and show us the rest of his game. He has a lot of untapped potential there, he just needs to show more composure in front of goal, he shoots too early and usually balloons it.

Ferguson has always said that he signed him to replace Scholes, so he obviously sees him as a player who will distribute the ball from midfield and help out by scoring 5-10 goals a season. He has a lot to live up to, even now Scholes can ping it about like he used to in his peak.

when your playing in a midfield with 'no tackles scholes', or 'no movement carrick' you have to do everything else...

can you say that say in the city game, that carrick or fletcher actually did anything worthwhile, (apart from the obvious goal from carrick).. no they all sat in a big trio in the middle of the pitch, with our team determined to cut them out of play and go to evra -> giggs where possible, OR it got to scholes and he'd do the old diagonal 70 yard ball to nani on the other wing...not exactly bossing the midfield the way that you would expect a 5 man line up to do at all.

I thought Fletcher played well against City. I do agree that Anderson's attacking potential is being limited by the players he's being forced to partner. Him and Fletcher is probably our best combo but having Hargreaves back would be better.

I like him, this hasn't been a brilliant season for him so far, he started poorly but has got better, especially in the CL. He needs to be alongside a hard-working ball-winning player though. Playing him alongside Scholes really doesn't work.

What happened to Carrick, you all adored him in 07/08 now he doesn't play much and nobody has many kind words for him

you can search the history of my account. i have never adored Carrick.

he is too slow, bad touch, helped to cost us the champs league final...no passion...no effort...waste of space imo...

he's not terrible, i just think he doesnt suite our preferred quick tempo style of play...

watch the city game, Scholes can hustle but he can hustle the ball quickly. its like carrick wants to make friends and have babies with the ball before he is willing to pass it on.
