Other than his ego, the only reason why he's not likely to leave now is because we haven't got a replacement lined up.

I don't think his value will change much between now and the summer. The only club that have made any serious bid for him has been Birmingham.

James was declared unfit last week with a calf injury that would keep him out for 2 weeks. No point having a loan player who is injured. The Begovic deal looks like it is a permanent transfer and not a loan deal. There is also a rumour that Pennant may be coming to Stoke on loan.
 
A few papers are saying United will try and ditch Owen in the summer. I'd imagine a few clubs would be in for him should that be the case but I wouldn't bet against him retiring should he miss out on South Africa. All he cares about is England and without the chance to play for them again I doubt he would have the motivation to play on. Shame :( :D

Fergie's already said he expects Owen to be a United player for 4-5 years
 
Begovic is having a medical at stoke.

Much muchmuch happier about taking him over david old man james. Pompy fans seems to think he is a real prospect.

He looks quite decent from what I saw of him but then he's just another kid with a lot of pace, getting sick of these "potential superstars" emerging just because they're quick. Anyway he was a decent winger, far too ball greedy though!
 
Heard a slightly odd rumour that we've accepted an offer of £100k+add-ons for Christopher Buchtmann (a very highly rated youngster from our academy) from Fulham.

There's been lots of stories linking Fulham with a few of our youngsters (supposedly we rejected £1m for Lauri Dalla Valle) ever since the ex-head of recruitment of our academy joined Fulham but I'm shocked we're letting Buchtmann go.
 
Like when Michael Owen didn't want to play for Rafa? and refused to play in Europe so he could move to a "bigger European club" and that was the year Liverpool got to the Champs League final and came back against Milan?

Owen decided to leave before Benitez was appointed so I'm not sure what Benitez has got to do with it.

As for refusing to play. There's nothing to suggest that happened; the club were effectively forced to sell him once it was clear he wanted to leave as he had 1 year left on his deal, so they were never going to cup-tie him and block a move.

He's a striker, just played on the wing. When hes on form he's near impossible to deal with, but generally he just fades out of games, which is probably why a lot of clubs didn't go in for him.

Hopefully we sign a few youngsters though, we're running low on decent ones that might push for a first team spot. What positions are they? Dalla Valle is a striker, isn't he?

Rumour has it we're after Shorey on loan too...bloody hope so, we need full backs, using Hughes as a right back is awful. Still could do with another signing or two.

Wasn't Benitez supposed to have had crunch talks with both Gerrard and Owen in regards to getting them to stay? I think that alone has been the sole reason why Rafa hasn't gone over the top in his efforts to sign him.
