** Official ** January 2010 Transfer Thread- Rumours & Speculation in here

BBC said:
But there were whispers that he did not want to commit for as long as Liverpool wanted, and stories have since emerged that Owen's relationship with Benitez has not been smooth.

No deal was done and Liverpool's board, terrified at the prospect of losing Owen on a Bosman after Steve McManaman took the same route to the Bernabeu, have accepted an £8m-plus-player deal that is at best cut-price, and at worst a steal.

BBC said:
Michael Owen could leave Liverpool if they don't qualify for a Champions League place, according to his agent.
Jon Holmes said: "Michael Owen is now 24. He's moving into his prime and needs to be playing at the very highest level of club football."

To reach the Champions League Liverpool must finish in the top four in the Premiership; they're currently sixth.

Hmm.

Was it the year that Liverpool came back against Milan?

Wasn't Benitez supposed to have had crunch talks with both Gerrard and Owen in regards to getting them to stay? I think that alone has been the sole reason why Rafa hasn't gone over the top in his efforts to sign him.
He went out to the euros to meet Gerrard, Owen and Carra but according to Carra he spent the whole time telling Gerrard he wastes too much energy charging around the pitch and that Owen needs to improve his movement.

No doubt he would have told them he wants them to stay but he wouldn't have got down on his knees and begged like Houllier would have.
What positions are they?
Butchmann's a left back but can play in midfield too and LDV's a striker. I was surprised you got Butchmann but there's surely no way we'll let Dalla Valle go unless someone offers big money for him.

Wenger has said he won't be buying anyone. Oh well there goes the season :s.

Nothing new there, wasnt expecting him to buy anyone...its no wonder our season has turned into another disaster:(....Wenger needs to offload our rubbish players ie Denilson and Walcott for a start.

Walcott should be given a season in the team, I'm ready to say bye to Denilson though, he had last season and much of this one (pre-injury). He needs to be in a slower league

No big players were going to move due to the problems they could face pre World Cup.

Spot on which made all the pre January talk of Aguero, Villa, Silva etc etc moving to the Premiership a load of balls tbh

This summer will be a very interesting window though, City will spend, Liverpool will spend (whether it will be Rafa or not though who knows) and hopefully we'll spend as well. Chelsea wont though :p

Players just weren't going to risk the move not working out and then not getting to go / play in the World Cup.

Chelsea won't be able to sign anyone because of the transfer ban?

Natalie is my favourite, she's got better over time. As if she's 30 as well!

Her bangers are making my Monday go a hell of a lot faster :p

30?!

No way!

Newcastle have completed the signing of Leon Best from Coventry on a 3 1/2 year deal for an undisclosed fee.

I have to say, this window has been reasonably good for us, 3 defenders a midfielder and a striker and Geremi gone. Quite shocked it turned out half decent for once.
