**** Official LG G4 Discussion Thread ****

Yep SQ is bad but the auto focus is impressive. Prefer the video from the S6.

Pics are a tie for the rear cam and a win for the LG for the FFC.

I don't agree with that, the detail on the Galaxy S6 rear shots is impressive.

The LG G4 shots are not as sharp, that is very apparent when looking at the close up of the skull thing, that might be the low lighting but it's not the only example I've seen.

Also just spotted this, battery life is still an issue.

Mmmm initial battery life tests are not looking great. Quite worrying.

I'm not so fussed about the camera and CPU/GPU, I think they are both more than adequate for almost all users

Dammit...what are LG playing at? The put out an awesome phone and a viable alternative to the S6 range and gimp the G4 with a mediocre battery.
Am not impressed at all. That puts paid to any plans getting the G4.

My Z3 lives to fight another day....

its the high quality screen. the samsung has a lower capacity battery and uses amoled.

IPS screen use more power.

It's not even that good, it's just big.

Look's comparable to Samsung's more extreme display modes so retina melting colours will be normal and also for some unknown reason a colour temperature of 8000k to make everything look cold/blueish.

I hope they have a basic mode to tone it down, otherwise that alone would put me right off.

While it’s not as accurate in color reproduction as last year’s display, the move is a purposeful one in giving this IPS Quantum Display the rich and iridescent color tones LG has promised. Sure, we can argue about its inaccuracies, but some folks won’t mind it as much, especially when it’s a drawing factor with its glow. In addition, the G4’s color temperature is a stark contrast to the G3, as it reaches a very cold color temperature of ~8000K – giving whites that noticeably bluish tone. And finally, LG ever so slightly improves the brightness with this model, since it reaches 454 nits in our testing, which is shy of the 500 nits LG mentioned it would deliver.

So, what does this tell us? LG follows through in delivering the promised proclaim that the IPS Quantum Display will deliver about 20% color gamut over the usual sRGB gamut standard, something that’s profoundly made known looking at its color gamut chart. While it’s not as accurate this time around, the decision to offer a more saturated display is a purposeful one – so greens are green, blues are dark blue, and reds are blood red. Don’t get us wrong, the display is able to stir up attention due to its rich and vibrant colors, but it’s clearly overblown to simply draw people into its glow. Is it accurate? Not really, but some folks won’t be too bummed out by that realization because it has that drawing factor.

well i have had bad experiences with amoled screens and i will never buy an amoled screen ever again due to screen burn and various other issues with it

I will always stick to IPS from now on until display technology improves.

the display modes can be tweaked with settings, especially through cyanogemod live display mode.

I still think some of these issues can be ironed out with software development. the QHD IPS is value for money compared to other screens etc. The issue is screen draws a lot of power which drains the battery. the way around this would be reduce brightness, change cpu governor

i was researching the firmware and extract a KDZ rom on my LG g3 and there is a module RPM.bin which is for resource power managment. maybe LG in later firmware releases can imrpove how the modem/baseband handles power effiency

Samsung's OLED display's are already matching and surpassing the best IPS displays on mobiles.

The Galaxy S6 display on basic mode is the most colour accurate mobile display we currently have and add to that it's also now brighter in sunlight.

They have come a long way over the last two years and the two areas they needed to address have been addressed to the point where they are better than competing devices with IPS displays.

You just need to remember to change the display mode, the other display modes are not great but lots of people like insanely bright colours even though it looks ridiculous at times.

You can do the same with both, not that the basic mode on the Galaxy S6 needs much tweaking.

I just wanted to share this with you guys. especially for people that keep saying the battery is bad on the lg g3.

LG software is ****. cyanogenmod makes a big difference.

That looks quite poor surely? That's unplugged at midnight then almost dead by 11AM?

the stats speak for themselves

I use the phone heavily in the morning, hence why the massive drop and big screen on time.

i use to get only 3:30hrs screen on time with the samsung s4 and that was with a zerolemon 3000mah battery and using alucard governor.

No, no they don't.

For instance, is it pre-release software still, which is known to often give worse scores.

What is the screen brightness used for the tests?

With all these things, the stats absoluuutely never speak for themselves! Otherwise you may as well say 'this phone has biggest battery in mAh, so therefore will be the best'.

well my brightness is on 75% and obviously i dont believe a bigger battery will be the best. It comes down to the power management of the phone.

Battery life for a start...underpowered chipset powering the 2K screen. Poorly performing software full of stutters...
Too many issues to mention on top of that.

Gentlemen- I have no experience of smartphones, but I am hoping to get one.
I've seen lots of posts and so called reviews .
The G3 looks good to me in a lot of respects, and it's price soon may be good in view of the imminence of the G4.

But I note what you say re battery life. However, ( and please be objective :) )
I am not a gamer at all, and the phone would never be used a lot. Some internet browsing- playing music and navigating maybe . ( I'ma aware that when i start finding what it will do, i will use it more- But I will never do gaming on it ) I'm an OAP :)

So, may I ask you experts please - Re the G3 - Will the battery life be an issue for me.?

TIA

With that kind of light use it would last you a full day no issues...around 4+hrs screen on time. Maybe even 2-3 days if the screen is on 1-2hrs per day.

If you're looking at getting your first smartphone, I can't think of a better starter than the Z3 compact (if you don't want a big phone that is). It'll last days with the sort of use you say it'll be having too
