Can anyone give me some pointers here...?

When I play MC I generally do a load of mining, build a nice home and perhaps pop a few low tier machines in there. I tend to go with IC2 stuff as they help out fairly easily but when it comes to powering them, solar panels seem to take me an absolute age to make and getting any decent amount of power from them is a distant target. Anything that needs fuel is also a brain ache as I don't know how to automate the fueling process.

So, I decided to try a big reactor and an ME network for storage this time but I'm struggling to work out the order in which I need to sort things out.

Building the reactor doesn't seem too hard but getting the power from RF to MJ for the computer is where I'm coming unstuck. I think I need a conduit of some sort but it looks like I need invar which means I need a machine to make it but that machine needs power of a different source which sort of puts me back to square one with the solar panels :(

The complexity of all this always puts me off so I always get bored and give up.
 
Take a look at the mod in game called ender IO. Energy conduits are available in three tiers craft the basic tier and use that - it will automatically convert from RF to MJ but the AE system accepts RF anyway.

Build ME computer
Build alloy smelter (powered from reactor)
Bake conductive iron
Make binder composite - bake for conduit binder
Make energy conduit
Plug into reactor to ME computer stuffs

Does that sound right?

e: If the computer does take RF, this is all unnecessary but I can't find any reference to it using RF...

Ok, been playing with it a bit in creative mode and it seems ok. Just need to figure out how to power IC2 with RF next.

Also, is this a thing now?!

If you guys are having trouble finding diamonds then it might be worth heading to the nether (One of the thermal expansion machines makes obsidian, I think its the igneous extruder). In the first nether fortress I found 7 diamonds and three sets of diamond horse armour in various chests
 
Does anyone know of a cheaper and more automatable equivalent to extra utilities etherial glass? I want a clear roof to a very large building that can be flown through by players but not by other entities, and I don't fancy crafting several thousand unstable ingots to make said glass. I'm using the 1.7.10 Direwolf20 pack with ars magica added to it

I meant ineffable glass, since thats the one with connected textures. After a bit of testing i'm really struggling to come up with anything other than just using a blink spell to get through normal glass
