This sums up Carragher for me.

Real shame Wes Brown isn't going to be fit, Carragher has been poor for a good two seasons imo.

So you criticise Carragher then mention Wes Brown :D

All defenders make mistakes, pinpointing that one against Henry was about three years ago? He's consistent for Liverpool, not had the best seasons but who has for them? He's the ultimate utility defender and can cover anywhere. I don't see why his form is brought into question when Carrick, Heskey, Gerrard, Walcott are all in the squad after poor seasons.

Just heard Dunga has left Ronaldinho and Adriano out of the team, not sure if it's true?

Ronaldinho hasn't been in the squad for a while, it was expected he'd be left out. Adriano, I doubt anyone would care tbh.

Not really sure what to say about Carragher. He has always been behind other English CB's and due to e.g. Cole/Bridge or Neville behind the LB and RB too. I agree, if he wanted to leave years ago he should have left. Maybe he wants out of Liverpool while he still has some time left and playing a WC will help if he does well.

God I miss the early part of the last decade, as much as I rate RvP the guy's just not in Henry's class.

realy annoyed that hes taking carra who didnt give 2 flying fks about his country a few years back instead of some young hungry defenders in the shape of a cahill or shawcross.

Can we really see Carragher getting a game unless Johnson gets injured?

Probably not although he'll go as cover for CB too.

But can we see Baines or Warnock getting a game unless Cole's injured? or Carrick, Huddlestone or Parker getting a game unless 2 or 3 CM's are injured?

You've got to take cover too :)

Carragher bottled it when he couldn't get past Rio and Terry + 2.

Why should he go to the WC when he couldn't give a **** before add that to the fact he's been shocking for 2 seasons

The only reason I can think of is that he can cover RB and CB but every time of seen him play RB he's come undone :/

Slight exaggeration saying he's been shocking for 2 seasons. He wasn't at his best last season but had a perfectly acceptable season, he did start this season poorly but has been improving all season but has put in his best performances against the bigger sides.

As for playing right back, imo he's actaully looked more comfortable playing there over the last season or so than he did when he used to play there more regularly in his early days.

His selection all boils down to the fact that other than Johnson we have no other obvious picks at RB and with Ferdinand and King in the squad, we need more cover at CB. Only really 3 players can cover both CB and RB; Brown, Richards and Carra and all bias aside, Carra's easily the best of the 3.

I'm shocked he decided to come out of retirement tbh. He's leaving himself wide open to be fairly criticised and he doesn't seem like a person that would go back on decison like this. Although Capello has said that he's spent the last 2 months trying to persuade him.

How could he leave out Pato

Because he has is completely over-rated and injured for a lot of the season.

If I was English Carragher's lack of pace would have me worried. In the league he usually gets away with it by pulling the player down... that could prove costly!

he's not a team player, doesnt track back, or even attempt to win the ball when its within 20 yards of him. i would choose fabiano, robhino and nilmar ahead of him too.

im surprised diego isnt in the team though, yet baptista is. i would have taken ronaldhino as backup but he wouldnt make starting 11, he doesnt seem to have the stamina he used to have or the pace.

Exactly what I was thinking, the times I've seen Liverpool this season he's given away way too many free kicks/penalties by pulling/pushing people over because he was too slow to stop them getting past in the first place.

OK chaps, who are your 7 players for the chop? If pushed I would probably ditch:

Warnock
Dawson
Walcott
SWP
Heskey
Huddlestone
James

Only reason I'm keeping Carragher in ahead of Dawson is because he seems to be the backup rightback.

I'd not take Carra either, he is just too slow now, I mean he wasnt the quickest in the 1st place, but this season even his excellent positional sense hasnt helped him.

As for Young, I rate him, but I live in the west mids, surrounded by Villa fans, and tbh, he isnt that highly rated by many of them, he is good, but the final ball is poor, like Walcott,SWP etc.

It so depressing looking at our front line, take rooney out of the lineup and its a pretty poor front line.

Im really not looking forward to this WC, after a season of despair in scouseland, I really didnt need 3 weeks of despair with the WC:p

I'd drop: Warnock, Dawson, SWP, Walcott, Carrick, Parker (if Barry's fit) and Bent.

I expect Capello will drop: Warnock, Dawson, A.Johnson, J.Cole, Huddlestone, Parker and Bent.

edit: Actually I'd drop Upson and keep Dawson. Not that either will play.
