Either, some people have been flashing 5850's with Asus 5870 BIOS's (I wouldn't advise like)
Got my 5850 from OCUK yesterday and man is it fast compared to my old 8800GTS(g92). Haven't gotten my new blocks from aquatuning yet, but I'm eagerly looking forward to overclocking this thing. 
Had some problems installing my drivers; had to turn off driver signature enforcement in order for them to install correctly. Also I'm seeing some weird stuff in crysis(squares in the sky). Overall though it's a great card and I was lucky enough to get one before they raised the price!

I see they have their own block that is cheaper than the EK one, is that what you intend to get?
It just says 'bios reading not supported on this device'.
Broke 40fps with tessellation on. Not bad for a quiet HTPC

Edit; now getting 42.7fps with the 5850@1050/1300. needed 1.35v though so I'll stick with something lower for 24/7 use.

As the memory won't clock beyond 1300mhz, going with a full block seemed like a waste of money so I decided to stick with a core block. Full cover blocks also restrict the waterflow so they're more suitable for people with a separate gpu-loop.

That's what I've done. I'm using an EK Supreme block with zalman RAM sinks and a Zalman ZM-RHS70 that fornowagain suggested might fit. It doesn't but I modified so that it does!
You need something substantial like that on the VDDCs as they run really hot, especially when bumping up the vcore. I tried it with some ramsinks on them to begin with but they weren't up to the job.

well ive just run it with the same settings as you but my cpu is at 3.2 and card isnt overclocked and got
22fps and a score of 530
,might send this back and just stick with a 5770 for my htpc

It's probably the Athlon 620 that's bottlenecking the 5850. A 5770 would probably be a better choice to go with that.

thanks for the advice might swap my system around and put the 8500 intel system in and put the athlon with my 260gtx,should be fine that way shouldnt it
It's a better balance of components I reckon, unless you really wanted the bitstreaming function of the 5850 in your HTPC.

well i did a test with my 8500 and my 260 gtx and got a score of p13000
so did a test with the 8500 and the 5850 and got a score of p10480
so im getting better results with a 260gtx than i am with the 5850 cant work it out surely the 8500 at 4.0ghz cant be bottlenecking the card
