**** Official OnePlus 8/OnePlus 8 Pro Thread ****

Watching MKBHD and co on the way back home.

Other than time served I don't see why he has got such a following. I find his reviews a bit lightweight, like the majority of the other channels. Summer of the smaller channels are pretty decent but many just read out the specs and offer up a neutral view.

It's a shame the fast wireless charging is only fast when using OP's own brand charger stand which is quite bulky and expensive. If you use any other Qi fast charging stand then you are limited to 5W charging only. And no other fast wireless charge phone will fast charge (other than at 5W) on the OP model either so you have to buy another stand just for this one phone if you want fast wireless charging. Missed a beat there OP considering you are using a SD865 chipset why not retain the wireless charging components which are Qi certified fast charging anyway?

At this price having 256GB max storage is a bit of a shame and the constrained features of the non Pro make both of these a strike off my list of potential 2020 phone upgrade options.

It's OnePlus, did we really expect anything else? I know I didn't. Just look at the price of their proprietary wired charging tech.

Generally speaking the £665 (student discount) I paid for my 7T Pro still seems like a much better deal. Yes there is wireless charging now although given the constraints on it it's hardly an improvement. IP68 means nothing to me personally. I've had my 7T Pro out in the rain and no harm done.
Looking at it from another perspective (base OP8P) the storage option on the 7T Pro was twice as big and there's a full screen display vs hole punch. RAM is same at 8gb and wired charging is the same - I would have liked to see 50 or 60W charging like the Oppo. I'm sure there are marginal gains with the SD865 vs the 855+ but in every day use would it be noticeable?
Considering the 7T Pro is £100 cheaper I think even at the full asking price it's still a better deal.

Fair enough, each to their own. I think it was his intro music that got my attention a few years ago :D and he ticks my general overview boxes. Any recommendations? Usually switch between Marques, Linus, Hardware Canucks and Mrwhosetheboss :).

According to MKBHD it is 5w only on a non OnePlus charging pad. Absolutely no surprise to me at all that they have made the 30w wireless charging proprietary. Mentioned it a few times.

I've stopped counting the amount of times MKB gives out wrong info.

10W on EPP Qi

@mrk

On top of that, if you are using a Qi wireless charger that supports a 10W EPP standard, you’ll be able to get 10W charging speeds for your OnePlus phone

To be fair his style and presentation is good and easy to listen to. I tend to prefer a Gamers Nexus or Anandtech Vs Linus review. Probably explained by the years auditing medical research reports and labs :)

The Tech Chap has a nice camera comparison with the S20 and iPhone 11. Amazing how they vary in colour rendition and response.

At a certain level it really comes down to personal preference as they are all so close these days and offer pros and cons whichever you buy.

Yes if it is Qi 15W then it will almost certainly support the EPP 10W standard. There are hundreds of Qi chargers out on market supporting extended power profile.

Ok so that OP rep confirms it will charge at 10W if a Qi fast wireless charger is used. This is far better than 5W but still a ways off 15W or the 24W supported by Samsung's current gen. 10 is still doable though and fast enough to charge a phone whilst it's being used (say for satnav etc).

Quite right, I could live with 10W for sure. I think the wireless charger I had for my S10e at work was 10W. 5W would just be much too tedious.

What's the charge time from 50% to 100% on current warp chargers? Would like a rough ideas as it's rare to charge a phone from 0 to 50 as you should not let a battery drop that low to begin with. A more meaningful thing to know is the charge time from say 50% to full instead.

U-turn much? Haha :p

I like his videos. He goes into good detail and he's quite funny as well.

It's like any science hypothesis, once a more reliable fact can be concluded, the initial thought can be re-adjusted to fall inline with the new facts

It's still not perfect, but the link posted where the rep states 10W support is the info that was needed and has not been posted anywhere else I've been reading or watching.

Haha yeah Steve/Jesus is great for deep dives and detail. Funnily enough I haven't really used Anandtech for a while (no reason) - might go check them out. I really fancy a change from my Note 9 and I think the OP8 Pro will be a great fit.

Thanks - haven't subscribed but he's appeared a couple of times on my feed recently and liked him.

I conducted a test over the Christmas holidays for this very eventuality :p
My 30T Warp Charger for 7T Pro as follows:
1-10% = 4mins
10-51% = 17mins
51-87% = 20mins
87-100% = 27mins.

Total 1h08m. Apologies for the slightly arbitrary time intervals but to answer your question 45mins give or take for 50-100%.

Reading reviews of oneplus return/cooling off policy, they seem right shady. Late to reply and often refuse and defer returns.

I'll wait for my credit card to arrive before I even think purchase.
