**** Official OnePlus 8/OnePlus 8 Pro Thread ****

The curved screen, the sheer size of the pro and the lame colourways are what's stopping me pulling the trigger. The cams also haven't bowled me over.

Given the cost of this thing I don't want to go in half hearted. I'll probably try it out but I'll be surprised if I keep it.

As the dust begins to settle it becomes apparent this is just a spec- and price-bumped 7 Pro. Shame they couldn't come up with a new design, or distinguish their products more by size.

Once the breathlessly faux-excited reviewers have got their click surge, watch them start referring to the OP cameras as being 'behind the curve' over the next month or two.

Just watched Michael Fisher's review and he's got a point. OP has been criticised year after year for not having IP68, wireless charging and a better camera but these things actually cost money to implement so the price reflects that.

This is a very uninteresting observation made by many people. These things do not cost +£200 to implement. There are also things called profit margins which can be flexible both up and downwards.

Sure but profit margins aren't the same whether you're called OP or Samsung. The top of the line 8 Pro remains at least £100 cheaper than its counterparts from bigger manufacturers.

I agree prices are fair given the tech packed in here. Dave2d mirrored these thoughts.

The 3x zoom apparently isn't optical. Also for me wireless charging is a waste of cash as I'm just not interested.

Companies are not charities. You just have to put yourself in any company's shoes. If they have a good USP they'll get their asking price.

Just look at what the Pixel 4xl rrp'd at... That was a joke.

I fully agree. If a company could sell us grains of sand from the beach for a thousand quid each they'd do so. However, they don't need defending for putting up their prices. Like you say - the OP 8 Pro will sell if people want it. Personally I think they've picked a bad time and I don't think the product justifies the price rise.

It's also my opinion that this surge in Android pricing is going to drive people to Apple, who at least make some of their own stuff and support their hardware for five years.

Ok, I've made up my mind now. If this isn't available in blue to buy in the UK (8/128 ver) by the end of the month I won't be buying it.

In the mean time if the 7T Pro drops anywhere near £550-£600 (UK, not from China, I am aware I can get it in a month for £516) then I'll go for that. If nothing materialises then I'll wait to see what the Pixel 4a launch brings.

My Pixel 2XL is still fine bar some awful marks on the front screen, this phone has the least durable screen going in terms of resistance to micro scratches and wearing of coating. Battery is also poor. The worst (and most expensive) Google phone I've ever owned, but the best camera I've had on a mobile.

I think the MI 10 Pro is a better all rounder then the 8 Pro.

I will wait till the end of the month to see prices.

It's always great at first give it a month or so then the battery level soon drops off as it did with my OP7 Pro which has turned out to be the worst for battery life out of all my OP devices.

One reason I went for the 7T, fewer pixels to drive and still looks very good to me. I'll see how it goes over the next few months but it charges so fast I don't think it will be an issue.

Tom the Tech Chap has a battery comparison video up with the 8 Pro doing the best out of all current high-refresh Android handsets. The iPhone 11 Pro Max walked to victory but it was the only one running 60hz.

Can all the Android phone be set to 60Hz? Would have been a more complete test to have compared them all at the same refresh rate and then at their max rate.

He tested them the way people would most enjoy the phones, which seems logical enough to me. I don't think he was intending it to be an android vs ios thing and probably just added the iPhone because he had one to hand.

A baseline would have been nice though especially if battery life was a factor to potential buyers. If you had the iPhone on your list, but could have better battery life from a competitor, turning down to 60Hz wouldn't be an issue as that's all the iPhone offered.

That all said the OnePlus 8 offers a very different experience from an iPhone. I think the preferred ecosystem would be a much larger factor than either refresh rate or battery life.
