*** Official Planetside 2 Thread ***

Well they fixed it, which to be honest is a bit disappointing now. I was really enjoying watching people run around uncontrollably, not knowing what the hell was going on :p

Also, I would like to apologise to SOE for moaning about lag. I played this over the last two nights at work and the lag was a million times better which tells me that it's my home network.

I've replaced my PCI Wifi card with a USB one, I hope it was a faulty card, if not it might be time to break out the rods and pull a cable through the ceiling.

Also installing the game on my SSD now, quite why it wasn't done in the first place I don't know but better late than never I suppose.

Next step is to clock the nuts off my 2500k again, see if it boosts frames a bit, as I suspect it might be holding my 290 back, particularly in PS2.

If the combat is in a fixed place (i.e. not spread over a big area) max with bursters will ruin those air raids too, unless you are talking about a boatload of them actually working together, which isn't often
And if they do disapear for a few minutes you can simply pop to a terminal (defense) or sunderer (offense) and switch loadouts to deal with ground forces

Just make sure you take note of surroundings so if they get cocky and try to pick you off you can relocate/hit them from another angle (charge helps)

p.s. that new valk has a funny horn but my goodness do the people sitting in the open seats die easily :P

hi all
anyone know how to get rid of the FPS AND CPU osd on bottom left of screen

This shows your Frames Per Second.
If it also shows CPU this means that currently its your CPU bottle necking your system.
If it shows GPU then its your graphics card.

Ideally your FPS should be around the 60 mark. In PS2 its likely to fluctuate between 35-60 depending on where you are, what your doing and how busy it is.

To remove the OSD press ALT+F. To get it back again press ALT+F.
If after pressing ALT+F your mouse/KB appears not to work press ALT again.

You dont. Its just informative.

PS2 is a CPU intensive game that's not very well optimized for multi CPU systems.
You could be sat playing on a 64 core over clocked deathstar and you would still be CPU limited.
At a guess I assume most of the player base are CPU limited.

It can also be used as a guide, to inform you that you can increase some graphics settings. If your CPU limited rather than GPU then its possible theres some "oomph" in your graphics card not being used.

If your GPU limited, you can drop the settings, bit by bit. But all this will do eventually is move the bottleneck to the CPU.

thanks very much for info being playing this for a long time and honestly never new about the FPS etc

I do love PS2, but the one thing that can kill it for me in the performance at times. I'm using a 3770k @ 4.5, (GPU is stock GTX 780) my CPU usage goes to around 30% at the most, yet still get the "CPU" beside my FPS.
But for the most part, I am normally 50-60 FPS so can't complain too much.

So its been a couple weeks, and the "new car smell" has pretty much dissipated.

This is a fun game and should have a hell of a lot more players than it does
I was very apprehensive about how the game would handle big battles, but it actually runs great, the only nag is the rendering system in high density/population areas (the big 98+ fights)

Its great if you can actually play during prime time, because Miller, Cobalt (and Emerald for another 50ms) regularly peak around the 3000 mark respectively, with the factions pretty spread in terms of raw numbers.

But if you can't get on at prime times (like me), it can be tedious trying to get squads nevermind actually trying to find decent battles which aren't chasing ghost cappers
In the case of the latter, it is pretty crappy when this has gone on during the wee hours so some zones are off limits every time you pop on

Added to this SOE seem to run the game from a US time table, so while it might be off peak over there, other servers are just starting to wake up.

I'm pretty patient but even I was slightly caught off by the poor quality of whatever they did to lock people out from their accounts today
(the game crashes when a character reaches 100% in loading screen)

Have you joined an outfit Hairyfeet?

If not then a decently active one should be able to solve your squad/decent fight problems at least. It's definitely a game that can be played solo/with mates for fun but being in a larger group adds a lot to it.

I'm still loving it, playing Solo most days I tend to jump on for an hour or two. Solo I really enjoy it, but love it in Platoons (tend to just jump into some Public platoons during Alerts.

Turbo Flash + Shotgun for when I want to be silly is hilarious. Maxed AP lightning is also a really fun vehicle to play.
