**Official Portal 2 thread**

I see what you did there.

Decided to do a full run through on Portal to get warmed up and try to get the 'Transmission Received' achievement to boot. 22/26 in sequence so far :D.

Although part of me is wondering whether I should have just waited and gone in to the new game without the practise..

I'm very sad :( I've had 6 weeks off of work due to a back injury and the day I'm due to go back is Portal 2's release day!

How unlucky am I! :p

So it looks like Portal 2 will be released early tomorrow morning.

I'm not too fussed as I am currently setting up my first PC build. I'm so nervous if it'll work.

You could have an accident at home, after all that floor was awfully slippery... ;)

Oh and to chime in with the others, I've also been going through Portal again doing the transmission received achievement.

what extra money?

i don't think one person here has bought the pack to try an get portal 2 early but because they were cheap and fun games.

People keep repeating this, but we all know that there are plenty of people here hiding behind this line, that wouldn't have bought the sack if it had nothing to do with portal 2 and it potentially being released early. In the last few sales on steam, all the games in the potato sack have been at the prices they are now numerous times - if people genuinely wanted the games for the games themselves, they would have bought them before - making the discount on the potato sack worthless as they already own half the games.

I think whats more likely is people buying it in the hope they're contributing towards an early release, and telling themselves that they'll probably (hopfully) enjoy several of the games in the process.

At this rate, Audiosurf will finish by release and The Ball will not.

So we're looking at an unlock time of about 9am tomorrow.

No, just no.

You may be correct in your first point, that there are people here who wouldn't have bought the Potato Sack if it didn't have anything to do with Portal 2 (not least because it gives you an extra 10% off Portal 2 from buying individually).

But your second point is absolute ********. Nowhere has it been said it would be released very early (like, weekend early), people just jumped to that stupid conclusion themselves. You make it sound like people were willing to pay an extra £27 for games they have no intention of playing to get the game a couple of days earlier. My god if Activision catch wind of this no doubt they'll be charging £60 for an early access limited edition version of the next CoD game.

Then they're fools. The only thing they were getting were the games, at no point was it mentioned that purchasing the potato pack directly led to Portal 2 being released early. Yes it does say play them to get Portal 2 released early but you can contribute and take part without having to buy the sack and £30 would surely be worth a few clicks to see how it all works.

Besides, it's not like they were conned either, five great games and a handful of decent games all for less than £30, I know I would have snapped that up had I not already owned over half of them already.

Essentially yes. It all depends on how much time gets deducted between now and then, the harder games come with greater reductions.

OMG that's genius, I must get on to Kotick immediately!

well the early release was only announced 2 days ago iirc so everyone who bought it before then wont be included but i guess it's pretty easy to test with a simple poll in here. (public voting of course).

Actually buying the potato pack since the announcement of the early release will have delayed the release/

It says it all tbh that the number of potatoes when the countdown started was ~120,000. 3 days later that number has almost quadrupled.

Yes people probably are buying it because its connected to Portal 2 but from where i'm standing it sounds like they are playing it too. Whether they are playing them beyond the potatoes is there own problem. I know i've been enjoying most of the potato games i didn't have already. *spits on bit trip beat*

I would rofl if they actually did :D

Whether people jumped to the conclusion that buying the sack would release it on sunday or not, it doesn't change the fact that 'early release' was intentionally left open to interpretation by valve - and worked. There's nothing ******** about it, many comments in this thread already show plenty of people assumed it would be released sunday.
As I said in my previous post, I'm sure plenty of people did infact purchase the sack with the sole purpose in mind of helping an early release, and simply hoping that in the process, the games they bought would be worth it.

Edit: People seem to be getting very defensive and their back up against the wall @ me purely for pointing this out, and screaming that anyone who did buy the sack for these reasons is <insert derogative>. Plenty of people will have bought the sack for these reasons though, and valve knew it, hence the ploy. The fact that lots of people bought the games purely because they wanted the games doesn't change the fact that lots of people wont have.

Reading through the posts and just a warning from me to star out the swearies before the mods suspend you

I don't see it unlocking that much quicker. Regarding people buying games from the Potato Sack to try and unlock Portal 2 earlier, I think it is a valid point. I know it certainly influenced my decision to purchase RUSH, as I wouldn't usually buy it. Glad it did push me to get it though as I'm thoroughly enjoying it, although the Portal levels are PURE EVIL :p

Why Sunday? The game was set for an afternoon/evening release on Tuesday. Why does 'early' suddenly mean Sunday? The whole countdown thing only started Friday. If it had started last friday, i could understand that people might have expected it to be released several days earlier (such as Friday/Saturday, ready for the weekend).

Nothing changes the fact if you actually spent an extra £27 on the prospect of getting the game a couple of days early then you are nothing short of a delusional fool. As Antar said, it quite clearly states you have to PLAY the potato games so if you just bought them without any intention of playing them then... well you deserve everything you get.

I don't know why you're asking me these questions and directing your disagreement at me. You'd probably be better off saying it to someone who said they expected a sunday release and has actually bought the sack.

- although I will point out once more, that I keep saying people likely had the intention of playing and enjoying the games they had bought whilst hoping they had contributed to an early release - which in your posts becomes 'no intention of playing'.
