*** Official Prey (2017) Thread ***

Just an hour or so in so are I've been hooked in - I've no doubt it's going to be a great gaming experience. It actually reminds me a little bit of last two Deus Ex games. I have a question for those of you a bit further in:

- What are the 'recycler charges' the chipset you get as a bonus for pre-ordering makes you immune from? I don't think I've come across them yet but I've no idea what they are / will be?

If it's what I think it is they are essentially grenades that you can use that recycles anything in the vicinity.

I've sunk over five hours into the game this evening. I had to literally pry myself away because I have work in the morning!

I am not so keen on this, it's no Doom. It's too Bioshock for me, I was hoping for a fast paced shooter much like the first PREY game. It's too faffy.
I got it off CD keys, pre order. Meh; 5/10 and about 3 hours in. If I was looking for a new game to play and it was a toss up between this or Titanfall 2; then Titanfall 2 everytime.

Just not your type of game mate. The game itself is brilliant. If it was what you wanted I would have little interest buying it full price day one for example.

Doom and Titanfall 2 to me = brain dead shooting. Fun for a while, but gets boring real fast.

It's common knowledge that the game is nothing like the original Prey. It's obviously inspired by Bioshock, Half-Life and System Shock.

Prey rewards exploration, searching every nook and cranny, reading every file etc. It also encourages a more tactical approach instead of just running and gunning. The enemies will make mincemeat of you on hard or nightmare difficulty!

Next time do your research and pay the full whack on Steam, in order that you can refund it.

I completely agree!

+1

Doom was fun, but by the fourth or fifth mission I felt like I have seen everything it had to offer and was starting to get bored. Brainless shooting, but at least it had fantastic graphics and soundtrack which kept me just engaged enough to finish it.

But games like Prey (and Deus Ex series, System Shock etc) are 100% my jam.

Yeah, same here. Wish they made more games like that. So disappointed that Square Enix messed up Deus Ex and not it has been shelved. But on the bright side Prey seems to be doing well with reviews, so I hope it sells a lot and they make a second one. I heard they are making a new System Shock and also a remake, so at least in the absence of Deus Ex we have something to take it's place.

Looking forward to GMDX Version 9.0 which is looking very good and will be out next month, so I can play Deus Ex again :)

I loved System Shock but didn't really get into the Bioshock games - buy or skip?

I realise that as I type this it's going to raise your expectations sky high, however I think Prey can live up to it.

I've only played for two hours so far but if this game was called System Shock 3, I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

It has the same tense SS2 feeling as you're exploring the space ship, alone, trying to work out what's going on as everything goes to hell around you. You can approach things in different ways depending on your play style/upgrade path and of course you're being led by a mysterious person on comms. Best of you all you have your trusty wrench :D

I've been scared a few times, in much the same way SS2 used to scare me.

I would highly recommend you buy it.

**EDIT** In fact they mention "Looking Glass Studios at one point, they developed SS2 :) **

Completely surprised by this game. Was totally unawares it even existed till today. Never expected it to be a combination of 3 of my most loved of all time. Wow.

Oh and thanks for that link to CDKeys. Never used them before but I certainly will again. Got a nice bonus pre order bonus content code as well.

Cheers Guys!

Yeah I am looking forward to GMDX. And I actually loved Mankind Divided, amazing atmosphere, but yeah sadly Squeenix messed it up on marketing front, sales low...it's just depressing that the studio will now waste years and years on some Marvel games :/

I enjoyed it also. Was probably my favourite game of 2016, but it still fell short of my expectations which were rather high due to it being one of my favourite franchises. Mainly it was due to the story not being good enough. It is indeed depressing to know we won't see another Deus Ex game for a long time. Annoying as they had a good engine, I am certain story was ready also, so they could have banged one out in a couple of years instead of their usual five. Oh well.
