*** Official Prey (2017) Thread ***

16 hours in and only just got to crew quarters.. some of the alien abilities u get are insane. can do some good combos especially for the harder phantoms.. poltergeist can do one too.. walk into bathroom and one throws a table at me..

love the animations in this game... playing on hard and find it gets bit easier once u get a lot of abilities.

Two buckets and a sign just tried to attack me, so I retreated and locked myself in a room thinking I'd be safe, but the suspicious looking kettle has other ideas.

So what is this like? worth a buy? or wait for a patch or two?

Just watching the worth a buy video.

Need a single player to blast on with. Seen some people say it like bioshock, but like half-life also. Never played Bioshock, but Half-life is my favorite game ever for me. Not into the RPG sides though... Hows the perks and crafting?

Might add it to my playlist once on sale :D

Is there some audio "bang/pop" bug?
Seen a couple of clips/streams trying to decide if want this or not, but keep hearing the odd audio bugging out.

If it's like Bioshock/Deus Ex etc. then it seems like my type of game, will have to get it at some point.

Like others, I'm happy it's not like Doom, that didn't do much for me. Fun for a while and nice graphics/level design but it burned me out very quickly.

Picked up the Necropsy skill early on, since it sounded important, but it's annoying that tumors don't stack in your inventory.
Wish I spent the points on a bigger inventory now, always looking for the nearest recycler.

TBH I'm a bit disappointed too. Yeah it runs OK. But the graphics aren't that much of of a step up from Black Mesa or System Shock 2. Boxy and Linear was OK 20 years ago but not in this day and age.

It's fun. But it's not a classic.

Ah well.

3 hours in and it's really engaging so far. Some people will always find something to grumble about but I think it's safe to say that 90% of gamers will really enjoy this. For me good graphics are a bonus and don't define whether a game is good or not. For those playing this just now I have a few more questions:

- What the hell is the bowcaster with the foam darts for if it does zero damage? I though it was just a but of a joke but then I picked up the schematic plans to be able to create the bow and darts?
- Can you explode the explosive cannisters by throwing them if you level up that related skill? Haven't tried shooting them yet either - does that work?
- I'm hording most of my neuromods points as I can't decide where to spend them - I've put some in to boosting the effectiveness of medkits and increasing the amount of inventory I can carry - any tips on what has proved to be useful or which ones are a bit of a waste?...

Thanks in advance.

In answer to your questions:

- The bowcaster is useful for activating things that are out of reach, such as computer terminals etc. I've been able to unlock doors this way.
- The leverage skill allows you to throw cannisters with significantly more force, causing them to explode on impact. You can shoot them also, but they tend to fly all over the place before exploding.
- The necropsy skill is essential for harvesting certain organs from mimics. Think of it as a long-term investment, because they come in handy later when you acquire the neuromod plan for the fabricator.

I'm not sure what game you've been playing, but Prey looks substantially better than Black Mesa or System Shock 2. The latter especially looks dated by today's standards!

Prey is far from linear, and while the graphics aren't cutting edge, they're not bad at all. It runs substantially well also!

Maybe I should have said "On my System"?

Don't get me wrong. I really like this game but for some reason the graphics look a bit weird. When I said Linear I was referring to the way the graphics are constructed , like stretched out or something, the actual gameplay itself is a hoot.

I've not messed with any of the graphics settings yet but I'm hoping I can do something to make everything look a bit more lush a bit later today.

My rig is getting on a bit - Gigabyte G1 gaming 970 at stock boost 1379 , i5 2500k at 4.3, 8gb 1600 DDR3, Asus Sabertooth Z77, Dell U2711 2560x1440 Win7 64

I am loving this game! The huge sentry bots are nasty.

Has anyone found a good method of farming materials with the recycle grenades?

Ahhh, good shout on the plants. You get these large glass cabinets with masses of plants in them.... I will try this next time I'm playing.

Its a shame you cant pick up the dead people and chuck them in the recycle units.

Yes the shotty is good. I am trying to get this maxed out.

Think I am nearing the end now, its been really good , just one annoyance so far

I was expecting multiple endings when the quests about escaping rather than blowing the station up came along, so I was disappointed that when I actually got into the escape pod there was no ending cutscene or anything like that, just dumps you back to the load saved game screen, guess that means there arent alternative endings
