!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

I don't follow you.

That picture was at 8x AA.

Here's a larger one also at 8x AA:

It runs at 60fps almost all the time at that resolution and AA level, the corruption is the issue.

The latest drivers for this card are being used, an earlier driver refused to even let the game start.

That image would possibly suggest your running out of VRAM, or just rubbish drivers.

Wha?! I just got the message "achievements disabled due to the console being used in this game"

I certainly haven't opened the console, let alone entered a command! Is there any way to tell how far back I need to go in my save system? There's nothing in the character tab in-game...

I restarted my game shortly after the patch arrived, because I wanted to up the difficulty. Since then I haven't even made any changes to config files or launch options to try to improve performance... I've only just got around to 'new' achievements, and now it seems they're disabled.

Jesus, the ending sucks big stupid balls. The game in general sucks, and the biggest thing you fight is barely halfway into the game, pathetically easy to beat, with unlimited ammo on supply and a big red target to say "don't stand here or you'll die".

Didn't ID used to at least get the pacing, timing, giving you new guns and fighting increasingly hard/big bosses right, they can't even do that anymore.

Try setting all of these:

vt_maxaniso 16
image_anisotropy 16
seta image_anisotropy "16"

to 4 as a test.
tried those settings and they make it worse :P

ill keep at it to find the best setting ill put my vram down to 1024.
frustrating as i see other people getting 60fps with the same card.
Thanks though.

I'm getting the sense you didn't like the game here?

Ok, I've just finished the game in under roughly 16 hours. That's a good amount of play time for an FPS I think.

What did I think?

The good: fantastic game-play: great guns and great shooting. The Wingstick provides some awesome kills and is destined to become an iconic weapon. The cars handle very well, feel fast and exciting, decent vehicle combat, cool races. Fantastic voice acting with some great characters. The guns, cars and characters all sound excellent. Superb environments with incredible detail (from afar) and makes it seem like a technical accomplishment at first for the 60FPS it runs at (as I said... at first...)

The bad: story never really developed and ended up being poor at best, the final level was a massive let-down overall which really sums this game up in many ways. I'll leave you to see it for yourself before I reveal why but it will be obvious when you play through it. The textures up close are appalling and many pull you out of the experience and just have you guessing how they came to pass by the developers. They are truly shocking at times. The characters are great but the main antagonists (The Authority) have no real head bad-guy that you meet and converse with, makes it feel a bit pointless. The game just seemed to end rather abruptly with no free roam option at the end.

Ok, so I've still got quite a few achievements to pick up having done just under half of them. Could do the game on a higher difficulty, do some more of the races, pick up some more craftables, multiplayer etc. So in a nut shell, great game-play, environments but a shambles in story, depth and the texture work (up close). This game has flashes of 10/10 moments and 1/10 moments, represents some of the best and worst of computer games so far. A technical accomplishment to run at 60 FPS with all these wonderfully detailed characters and large environments, terrible textures up close with even worse technical problems at launch particularly for those with an ATI card.

Worth £30? No, I think I paid too much for this. Wait till it's around £15-20, fully patched, good driver support, hi-rez texture pack. Only then I would recommend you pick it up. This is just my opinion.

What? Characters are awful, Red Stone, 3-4 conversations, which basically don't build on his character at all, just go here do that, then he's gone from the game and no one cares, the game just moves on. Only marginally different to all the other characters, there isn't a single character in the game that stays with you for very long, nor "talks" to you, is friendly with your character or shows any depth whatsoever.

You are right in the lack of a head honcho bad guy, the Authority are feared and badass, yet pose no threat at any stage in the game, and are quite happy to just stand around town doing nothing.

As for great guns and gameplay, thats all spoilt when 9/10 times you can kill people with 2 or 3 shots, but you can unload entire clips at "staggered" enemies who are doing an animation, be that staggering backwards, falling down, whatever, they are almost invunerable during these animations, which happen to almost every single enemy, which is beyond game breaking. Incredibly limited, linear levels with predictable appearances of enemys, who are stupid and the tactics between any group of bandits or the authority, don't change.

Its not horrific to play through, the guns themselves feel quite good, with decent ammo options and variable types of killing people is good, if enemies didn't magically become invunerable for brief periods of time it could even have been very good.

I quite enjoyed the hospital section although the bosses do seem a bit easy. I am playing on normal though... those little gremlin things that spit are SO annoying I just want to punch them through my monitor.

Haha yeah, although the later enemies it is slightly harder to get up close and personal with the shotgun.

I usually hate shotguns in games but i bloody love it in this, the shooting mechanics feel very different to most FPS's out there, do old ID games feel the same? I really love it, the low res textures are bloody awful though but not that i care, most of it still looks stunning.

You are doing it wrong. Enemies don't have a magical invunerability when staggered. The only slightly stupid part is the divide between weapon damage. Semi-auto are just considerably more powerful than automatic weapons. Shotgun is the first and last defence against Mutants. Fat Boy ammo, scoped with the pistol will let you 1/2 shot anything but a heavy. AR/AMG seem to take half a clip to drop anyone and late game armoured enemies seem to shrug off everything like they're paintballs, Even AVx2 ammo doesn't do a great deal while a Fat Boy Pistol will 2 shot them in the head.

You could probably complete the entire game using nothing but the shotgun. Buckshot for Mutants and anything up close. Pop Rockets for anything at range and armoured/shielded enemies.

^^ There is a moment on some animations where the collision detection bares no resemblance to the visuals (you can still hit it if you aim slightly behind or ahead depending on the animation) but there certainly isn't times when they are invulnerable for any length of time.

I'm loving this game, I couldn't care less about the whining children. The game runs perfectly for me, looks great, plays great and is a breath of fresh air compared to the rubbish Dad's Army clones the market's been saturated with in recent times.

The only tweaks i've got applied are FOV and Mouse smooth, no crashes, constant 60fps, in actual fact the only issues I can see now are with AMD's drivers?
