Possibly true but it's actually not that crazy a leap to assume that the PC port would use more than 512MB.
Also, 600-800MB is more than 512MB, meaning that 512MB would be a limiting factor.
Obviously there is AA to consider too.
Exactly. Why do people assume that the texture assets in the console version will be the ones used in the PC version. All of the dev diaries and interviews with Carmack show that it's not the case don't they?
I sometime get the feeling that people get very skewed ideas of how multiplatform development (whether porting or not) is done.
