!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Possibly true but it's actually not that crazy a leap to assume that the PC port would use more than 512MB.

Also, 600-800MB is more than 512MB, meaning that 512MB would be a limiting factor.

Obviously there is AA to consider too.

Exactly. Why do people assume that the texture assets in the console version will be the ones used in the PC version. All of the dev diaries and interviews with Carmack show that it's not the case don't they?

I sometime get the feeling that people get very skewed ideas of how multiplatform development (whether porting or not) is done.

for a console port :P

no there isnt you dont understand the technology if you think that its limited by console memory anyway as with most console ports its probably not going to use over 600-800mb of memory

The hell are you talking about?

It's you who doesn't understand the technology.

Discover how Rage will take advantage of your high-end GPU, explains in vid around 2:40 mins in, GPU - CPU Transcoding?. RAGE does not require state of the art machine to play :D, great idtech5 scalability and catering to those with mid and low-range systems.

... I actually can't be bothered to try with you.

better than admitting you were wrong i guess...

Minimum:
OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo or Equivalent AMD
Memory: 2GB
Hard Disk Space: 25GB
Video Card: GeForce 8800, Radeon HD 4200

Recommended:

OS: Win XP SP3, Vista, Win 7
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or Equivalent AMD
Memory: 4GB
Hard Disk Space: 25GB

That's not what he said at all. I'm sure most people reading this will realise which of you is talking rubbish without any knowledge to back up their ideas and which isn't though.

No, you'll just be another stubborn fool who'll say LOL SPECS ARE THESE.

When the engine is incredibly complicated and has been designed by Carmack to not alienate any willing customer.

That proves absolutely nothing btw.

And the more VRAM the better arknor. To fit in bigger textures, why do you fail to understand that?

Except all that a low recommended and minimum spec proves is that the game will run well on low end hardware. It says nothing about how well it will utilise high end hardware.

If you watch many of the dev videos, you'll see they've done great job making the game extremely scalable, and it still looks great.

I'm unsure if your just trying to provoke a reaction or really think that what your taking about makes sense arknor...

guess your not old enough to remember quake wars :P

here is going to be quite high texture sizes so the more VRAM the better, is it a 512MB or 1024MB?
im going to proove the game wont use any more ram than pretty much every other console port ands you telling people they need to uprgade is bad advice

Really...? Just wow....

He hasn't said anything of the kind. In fact the same post you quoted he states that he doesn't know how it will run on a particular card.

It's a new engine, that show a lot of promise from interviews and all I've seen of it currently. I couldn't give a toss how little ram it uses if it looks good. Heck, if it's more efficient and scalable, I don't see how that could possibly be a bad mark against the engine.

What are you trying to achieve other than looking like a big troll?
