!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

5 hours of my life disapeared today! graphics are a bit off at times but they look good in motion and the game is really fun with quite a few varied mini games.
i just hope i dont suddenly find the end when i wasnt expecting it like some reviewers said when they completed the game in 9hours including all side quests/job boards.

found loads of the trading cards to i think i have about 18 of them now :D easy to miss some of them aswell

I am looking forward to playing this immensely. Not being put off with the issues some people are mentioning. Idon't play through new games very often, last one was Deus Ex HR but in the next month i will have this, Arkham City and Skyrim! (and BF3 ofcourse)

I wonder how much of the technical difficulty is down to the actual hardware, i mean whenever i play a new game and everyone is complaining about bugs and having problems, i never seem to find them. I can't help but think it might be because my system is (fairly) new and i have reinstalled windows a few times so it has almost always been a fresh install when i have played a new game.

the texture poping is on nvidia aswell as i showed on a video a few pages back, you dont notice it half the time but if you turn fairly fast its annoying.

other than that theres just quite a lot of low res textures spread about.

some textures look pretty good though even fairly close

tbh you dont really notice the bad textures that much unless you are looking at screenshots and the gameplay imo is really good nothing like boring borderlands

For anyone looking at the current amd rage driver

All - don't use the current Rage performance driver - package includes very old OGL files, that's why you're seeing corruption etc.

As for the game, I always thought Rage wouldn't be anything special, looks like a good shooter but I'm probably gonna wait for a steam sale when its cheap for this one.

So, I don't get it, [h] is having a right old go at the game and posting pics like

http://www.hardocp.com/image.html?image=MTMxNzc3NDY2NWVoeWpYWlJ0V0FfMV8yX2wuanBn

with a thread complaining about how woeful it looks.

That screenshot is supposed to be max everything and, god damned the textures are awful, the gun itself is poor but the lense on the sight, infact the whole end of the scope looks seriously pathetic.

The shots Arknor posted, theres a couple walls that almost look good but, in that second shot theres like a box of some kind on the side of the house but it doesn't look like theres any depth to it. The wall on the right looks okay but the sides of the cliffs(?) I guess look awful, then the edge of the roof and side of the building look terrible.

A lot of people are blaming the whole, lets put Rage on the freaking ipad rubbish, which is what I was thinking would happen. With certain forum members banging on about how good mobile graphics will get as they'll run games like rage in the future. But thats because they've made a truly crap looking game(from what I've seen) so its more scaleable.

Screw the Ipad, make a proper pc and even console game.

That's an old tweet. The latest correct one's been out a while now:

@CatalystCreator
Here's the link for the Correct RAGE driver: http://bit.ly/nKiOhN

Not sure if serious... A truly scalable engine would be a great thing in the industry. The ability to run the same game on any piece of hardware from a phone to a super gaming computer, and have it adjust automatically to ensure that it runs smoothly. As long as it's done properly I don't see any issues with that.

Id and Carmack are one of the few developers actually pushing technology. Would you rather people continued to use stagnating copies of other peoples work forever.

You can't have seen much then. Everyone I've spoken to or read from that's actually gotten over the technical issues is really enjoying it.

This why why I am glad I skipped this. Who cares how pretty it is (if your not having issues with the GPU transcoding most in the US are!):

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/10/rage-is-the-gamiest-game-that-ever-gamed.ars

"So, just to sum up my nine plus hours with the game so far:
•No story to speak of
•No characters that make an impression
•Linear
•Broken save system
•Dull mechanics
•Tedious quests
•Weak shooting
•Stock weapons
•Racing is fun
•Minigames are enjoyable
•Very pretty"

Just because one reviewer didn't like it, doesn't mean it isn't a good game and that some people won't like it.

Seriously, you can't also say you have become experienced at spotting which games will be good or not before playing them. That's utter nonsense.

I think that's a fair assessment.

Now, can anyone help me locate the whereabouts of this:

It is fs_cachepath and it shows the users\username\appdata\local\id software\rage directory but I looked on my hard drive and the directory doesn't exist.

I'm on Win Xp, is the above referring to a Win 7 directory structure because I can't find it on my machine?

Go into the game and type out fs_cachepath in the console to get the current setting of it.

Nope, all good so far :)

wierd cos with the most recent nvidia drivers i get it no matter what settings i use, transcoding makes it a little better but its still there.

i did the cache folder directory aswell

games really good though

BTW if you get screen tearing its because theres a hidden nvidia rage profile in the newest drivers that forces vsync to off

download nvidia inspector click the spanner/screwdriver icon near the middle right find the RAGE profile and scroll down to the vynsc optin set it to force on always and click apply changes

you need to extract the custom settings file along with the nvidia inspector exe btw or you wont get all the driver profile options when you launch the program

I'm loving this game. Yea some textures are a bit meh but wow at some of the graphics. Really enjoyed the hour or so I played last night.

Basically getting the exact same thing as Arknor even with the ATI new drivers.

Think i will wait till friday to get the full experience, but the gun play seems very fun and god it looks stunning in places.

Am I right in thinking this is basically fallout 3 but in HD? (texture wise)

Fo3 was ok and NV but didn't like the gfx much as was pretty low res texture details a lot of the time. Rage looks like it is the same game more or less, post apocalyptic setting, quests to do, bit of rpg stuff which is ok long as its not too much to deal with, etc.

Is it a vast world map like fo3 with towns dotted about and plenty of npcs to interact with etc.

I duno why but i hope its not like borderlands because even tho i thought the start of BL was mint and cool i just didnt enjoy the game after 20 mins of playing, best i got to was walking along to places pot shooting some animals and it got boring real fast.
