!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Not really. You're aware that PCs aren't consoles, right? There are lots of differences between each person's set up.
Makes no odds mate. If this was a game engine fault then "ALL" would be complaining. There are those that have lower spec pc's than others and yet those with higher specs are complaining?.

It can't bett he game can it?, if some have no issues with pop-in etc then what is causing the issues for others?. Strange indeed.

Compatibility. They can't test the game on every single unique set of components. I'd expect better coverage than they appear to have achieved though.

That's just flawed logic.

There are more differences between components than just clockspeed and amount of memory.

Lol. It really does make odds. Feel free to go and enlighten yourself so we can take you seriously in future.

Seems Kyle at hardocp is having one of his trademark tantrums over the game:

Which then resulted in him requesting a refund:

http://hardocp.com/news/2011/10/05/i_want_my_60_for_rage_back

I asked Eidos for a refund for DE:HR (they told me to see the retailer BTW). The game is still completely unplayable for me & its not looking like they're even bothered about fixing it. Glad i pre-ordered that one...

I hope Rage doesn't turn out the same. Got the shipping confirmation today & I don't know if I'm excited or not now...

Shame that Rage has launched into this, the game industry is so cut throat now that it probably means Rage isn't going to sell at all well now and Mr Carmack himself will probably have second thoughts about producing any more big budget titles (bar Doom of course). There own doing I suppose but back in the day there would at least be some understand on how hard it actually is to make a game and how much more difficult it is to make a "decent" multi platform game that covers the hardcore, general, old and new gamers in such a massive industry.

These days people will cancel a pre-order due to a light being to bright (BF3 ;)).

Don't forget about the evil Battlelog haxx0ring our PCs! :p

Yet they all go straight back to PSN where all their data is perfectly safe, or play WoW that I think "used to" log all the programs you had open?!!!! :D

I hope they continue working on Rage as Carmack said in his press conference that he wasn't happy with the PC version as he would like to add higher-res textures along with DX11 stuff and some other crazy coding techniques he has been working on :p

Maybe i didn't word it right?. How come the dude on here with a gtx 580 never had any issues and yet another dude elsewhere has the pop-in issues in RAGE?.

I understand developers can't test every unique set of components. But i suppose that is their fault for not allowing a beta or demo?.

To me there is only the operating system - graphics card - hdd that plays a major part in modern pc gaming, those with older specs have to allow for issues.

When i play test RAGE this friday i can see for myself, maybe i'll get the pop-in issues, maybe not?.

Don't forget id Software no longer exists. Carmack sold the company to Zenimax so they he's just an in-house developer now with a regular paycheque. Zenimax calls the shots and it seems they are not too keen on pleasing the PC market. The money is in console games. Zenimax have shareholders to please.
Same thing happened to Bungie Software - sold out to Microsoft and Halo went console-only.
Sad times..

Ah but we may , just may, get to see Doom 4 now that he's fulfilled his contractual duties and got this POS out the way.

Here's hoping

Was going to buy this but I'm worried now I'm going to be dissapointed. What's the concensus? Leave well alone till it's patched?

Hahahahahahah at games making people ill! Seriously heard it all now!

Go outside move around abit I'm sure you'll get used to it!

its FACT not so much of it anymore its something to dow tih carmack really.

all the quake games were known for giving some people motion sickness, as i said earlier in the thread i never experienced it before until i played RAGE.

i managed to fix mine by setting +20 FOV and turning off the head bob/weapon sway

Has anyones preorder from game been posted yet? I got an email earlier saying "your preorder" giving me info on it (as if i didnt already know) but nothing since then. At the minute their website seems to be sluggish as all hell.. Looks like i'll be lucky to have it for Saturday, still "unshipped" apparently :(

FOV and Motion Sickness

Slightly OT but hopefully this video (in two) parts will help people better understand why some users suffer from motion sickness while playing games with relatively narrow FOVs...

It's a bit long at a total of 16mins but it's the best explanation I've seen. Essentially, many FPS games have been designed with the "play it on your TV from the sofa" notion in mind where the narrow FOV will not affect even the most motion sickness prone users. Play the same game at desk where the monitor is much closer and that's where the narrow FOV will begin to cause problems for some people.

If a game supports FOV adjustment I usually set mine to 90 or 100 in order to avoid any ill effects, since my 2407WFP is only about 2.5 feet away on my desk.

As for Rage, the default FOV is 80. Add +cvaradd g_fov 10 to the start-menu/desktop shortcut (or Steam launch options for the game) and it will change the FOV 90 degrees. You can adjust the 10 to a 20 if you want the FOV to be 100 degrees, and obviously anything in between also works.
