!!**Official RAGE Thread**!!

Got it preloaded, downloaded AMD drivers last night. Just wondered if anyone has any more tips on how to get the best from it straight off, as i will probably start playing as soon as it unlocks. Just a mixture of the tweaks mentioned already, or is it best to see how it runs first do you think?

After I purchase mine I'll see how it runs first before making any changes.

I'd suggest the above.

I'm going to try the 11.9 with rage driver today because the 11.8 still crashes 50% of the time during transitions from one area to the other - no crashes in the actual gameplay.

I'm also running the high quality config file and my 5850 is handling it well, but then I have to say I've been amazed at how well my 5850 has handled all my games at 2048x!

Seems simple enough lol, do you need to use that all the time? IE connected to the VPN once its installed etc..

When I did it with deus ex using anonymity network, you just need it on when you start the game. I ended up changing my location aswell in steam just in case it caused any problems with them thinking the account was hacked or anything :P

XP was way worse for requiring reinstalls than W7. God knows how frequently I had to do it on XP.

No offence but why blame the OS? XP is solid, it's the crap that people throw at it that derails the thing, same as any OS really.

I have three XP machines and none of them have issues, one has been running for nearly 5 years without fault!

Good old XP, I've not had to do that once in the paste three years. :D

This pc is 4 or 5 years old and was upgraded from vista 2 years ago. Every OS gets bogged down after that long and my recent stint of downloading left me with next to no disc space left. Since then its been absolutely crippled with steam, firefox, media player, etc, all having bouts of random freezing.

At least it'll give me somet to do tomorrow before Rage is available in UK.

I liked XP but did find I also needed more frequent reinstalls, about as many as three to four a year.

What the hell?

I've never re-installed XP on my main PC which has been running it for several years, I have about a hundred apps installed over 4 HDD's, I don't run AV and there's nothing in my run/startup to bloat the OS. I run apps when I need them.

My OS drive is just 15GB, sure I keep it clean, but it's never wanting for space.

It really does amaze me how people re-install their OS all the time instead of fixing the problem or more importantly keeping on top of their stuff!?

XP, W7 and all other windows OSs get bogged down relatively quickly and slow down. Compare the speed of a fresh install to your 5 year old system on the same hardware and you'll see the difference. If you're the sort of person that doesn't notice this then great for you. However, it doesn't mean that the OS is great, just that you don't notice it slowing down.
