I must be stupid; I heard someone say you can buy a copy now to enter the beta, and I feel like giving this game a try, but where do I go to buy it?!?!?

its an in-app purchase, download and install - then purchase when you start it 
Graphics to be honest are pretty shocking, not nice at all compared to iRacing.
Physics are OK, but the FFB is lovely, i honestly think its better than iRacing.
Although saying all this i have requested a refund as its not as good as i thought it would be, so i will be waiting for GTR3 to fulfil my multiclass GT needs.

forward those ports. I had same issue, i forgot the 54347
The other suggests changing ports in ini file.
Also, forum's helped me improve performance substantially... gone from running at 1360x768 with 4x AA and a few things inc hdr turned off to everything on, except crowd movement (causes visual anomalies) with 8xAA at 1920x1080

really enjoying getting used to this game, ive got to grips with the meganes, im getting there with the formula renaults but there still abit tail happy, but theres no hope i can drive any of the 60's stuff...
i feel the meganes are the best car in the beta to drive and really push as far as you can...

marc was on fire he did like 4 or 5 back to back laps at 1.05...
well track was good as i did a 1.07 and thats rapid for me as you know...

My best advice if you want a fast time, make a sunny practice session last 2 hours, have at least 20 AI and just batter around for an hour, then boot all the AI and go for it. I see some peoples laps, they come in every 3-4 laps...you need to stay out for at least 10 laps to get the best tyre temps!

how is adding AI gunna get u beter times?
it warms up the track, puts rubber down on the racing line. You cant go out and do the fastest lap if your the only one on the track. Trust me it works. you can see the racing line emerge as more rubber is put down and it feels gripper aswell. The only down side is if you go offline, you spin out.
that's defo right marc I was flying, well what I thought was flying yesterday on the racing line with 10 ai in offline mode getting some proper grip, then I went in a server with only 3 players and I was in there for a good while and my times were no were near the times I had with the 10 ai in offline mode.
