****Official rFactor 2 Thread****

Any ideas how this would run on my PC?

Q6700 @ STD clock speed
4gb ram
ATI 4890 1gb @ STD Clock speeds
Win 7 32bit (yeah yeah I know)

And at what details could I max it out?

Thanks

Wouldn't be too bad, I don't think.

For reference, my PC:
Q6600 @ 3.6GHz
8GB 800MHz DDR2
2x 5770 (had to force custom crossfire profile)

This runs with everything on/max, 8xAA, 16xAF at a solid 55-65FPS. The lowest drop I've seen was to 45FPS and that was with a lot of AI on screen. If I disable environmental reflections, it sits happilly above 60FPS all the time.

Have been waiting for Kepler to upgrade, but got the itch + a good deal on an MSI Frozr II GTX580 - so that's on its way :D

The important thing for ATI is that if you want AA and AF... you need to force it in CCC and for some strange reason, supersampling works better than multi or adaptive :S

So the game costs £30 unless you want lifetime online membership, which is £56. What happens if for now I just pay £30 to try it out but wish to 'upgrade' in the future, will I have to fork out the whole £56 or just the difference (£26?)

I'm rather new to Sim Racing (having come from GRID/DiRT/F1) but I do enjoy the harshness of it over arcade racing!

They have not announced an upgrade path as yet but is still very early doors.

At worse, refund your purchase before the end of Beta and purchase a lifetime sub?

If that is do-able I may just go ahead and try that. When is the beta going to end?

I've already asked this question on their forum & it's been answered :)

It's not a priority to upgrade - they will announce an upgrade path and for us early adopters, we'll just have to pay the difference (£26) to upgrade. The comment insinuates we'll be able to do it at any point in our 18 months... but will wait for the official announcement to confirm.

I doubt they'll go back on that, I'll be giving this a try tonight :D

i got no idea about setups mate so u wont be alone
Me either til yesterday - in real life I just drive & get wheels in motion to set my cars up... heh

I used some online guides to figure out what to monitor in tyre pressure/temperatures & how balancing various suspension components affects the handling.

Didn't save any links, but googling should get you similar :)

It takes a lot of time and patience... you need to put in a few laps after each change to get a feel for it when up to temp rather than the first couple of out-laps.

In terms of car tuning/setup. what are the key things i should do if i want to do the below:

1. reduce or increase oversteer
2. reduce or increase understeer
3. Accelerate quicker
4. Have a faster top speed
5. Reduce wheelspin when breaking(i think someone said to reduce break pressure)

Setups define are driver preference, not a source of grip

1: Increase oversteer
2: reduce understeer
3: You want to be hitting the limiter as soon as you stand on the brakes at the longest straight. If its a tight track with long straight, set it up with a long top gear.
4: Not every fast car has lots of top speed. downforce is key to getting more grip, more downforce less top speed.
5: Dont lock up, it flat spots your tyres and makes you have more under/oversteer depending on where you lock. To set this up, its driver preference. My driving style suits loads of front brake so i can turn in smoothly.

I was on rf2 this morning, meganes around mills metro. I can get a 1:06.7 with default setup :) Just time in seat, take it smooth and dont be to aggressive.

plus its in the rain that would be no fun...

Meh, I like a challenge :)

Haven't tried those in the rain yet though, bit busy this evening - will have a crack tomorrow.

I tried out my setup for the FR3.5s on the smaller Mills inner loop track earlier, increased ride height a little bit and a small tweak to front and rear toe and it worked rather well :D

Meganes - mills metro full wet and low temp i can get a 1:10 easily :D

Havnt tried a proper lap in the wet in any of the other cars. Perhaps tomorrow i will try and force myself to get a good lap in on the f3.5s
