***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

Well on default medium settings it runs between 30-40fps which kinda annoys me tbh. On low settings it runs 70fps but looks ugly.

Is it default ran in DX9? What settings can I do to tweek settings? Should be better once I get my 5850 in a week or so!

These are my settings... Any suggestions on what to lower/higher etc?

Tom,

Make a backup of the file "rift.cfg" in your game directory.

Then edit it, and change this value:

MainThreadCPU = 3

to

MainThreadCPU = 0

Then try it on high, might make a difference.

Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

EDIT: I use 5850 and it looks very nice to me :)

Also reduce terrain distance, see what it looks like then.

And add the -dx9 to your shortcut, sounds strange but made a big difference to me. I have a 5850 and i run the game all maxed with edgesmoothing aa.

Does anyone know if i can change the interface so i can only see my buffs on group members? I have a stacked hot which runs out after 11s and need to keep it up so i dont have to refresh all 4 stacks. Its so hard finding it when my target has about 16 buffs on them.

Anyone else play a warden btw?

I thought I saw an option for that in the settings, was a toggle box called Show all party buffs or something.

Found this guide that I will try out later on http://www.brileykenney.com/blog/?p=482

Thats a good guide, some of the options in there can make quite a difference. Visually I've found that having Multipass Terrain ticked makes things look much nicer. I've reached a nice balance on mine now, got everything up to almost max (except shadows), gives me around 40-45fps generally which I find more than playable and looks great.

Are people really nearly at level cap after a weekend lol this game will fail if people reach the cap in a week.

Its a common thing in MMOs these days, people have perfected ways to level very quickly in MMOs now.

Depends on the person, I mean the game has been out for almost a month now and my highest character (from playing a total of 44hours so far according to my steam played time) is level 21. Some people level super fast, some level super slow.

Well I'm up to 13/14, and although I'm enjoying it, I feel like I have picked a really bizarre spec. Cleric, with Shaman, Justicar and Druid Souls? I have one heal thats triggered by an attack, and that's it. Very odd for a healer to have no heals.

I joined DDO and Warhammer and people got to end cap in a week. There was outrage on the forums because the end game content was missing.

Well they are MMOs, theres always outrage on the forums :D

Thankfully the outrage on the Rift forums will be gone very soon as you can only post if you have an account and the free month is up in a few days so those people who have decided its not for them wont be able to post :)

Yeah I have that spec as the 2nd spec on my Cleric (his first spec is Purifier, Sentinel, Warden). Gives me the melee option to swap to if needed.

It reminded me of WoW and the amount of hours I wasted on it, don't want to get back into that phase. Quick decision? Maybe a good thing!

Oh and the fact that it runs like a dog on my PC is annoying!

It's an ace tank spec imo. Given the fact you can switch between heals and tanking Cleric is a very useful class to play as you can slot in to most groups. I tanked on my IT runs and healed through the DM runs.

Is anyone else slightly disappointed with the Warriors in Rift? I don't know if it's just me but it seems to be the only class I don't get along with. Aside from one tanking spec that gives you god knows how many passive buffs I don't think there's a lot to them. The Champion/Paragon options don't seem to give out as much dps (at low levels anyway) than I'd like. Then again, the more I level my cleric the more options I have and I'm a lot more effective now than I was say 10 levels ago (mid thirties atm). I know that sentence is true with most games, however with some mmos/rpgs I often find myself using the more powerful versions of basic skills as I level. Rift is pushing me in to a different routine and I like it.

Never a waste if you're having fun ! Its entertainment, thats all, just like going to watch a film at the cinema or watching Big Bang Theory on tv, as long as its actually entertaining then its not a waste. At least thats how I see it.

Pity that it runs so poorly on your PC though, judging from others with a similar spec here it seems you can tweak it to get better performance but not much point really I suppose as you arent playing it anyway.

Maybe you could flog it to a mate for £15, at least gets back half your money?
