***Official Rift Planes of Telara Thread***

You get rested xp if you log out in the city, I dont log out in the city as I am always elsewhere when I finish my sessions so I never get rested xp :)

Grabbing the Rift Authenticator now.

ahh i diddnt know that! how much rested xp can you get out of it? i know WOW had similar thing with a limit to max amount of rested xp you can generate.

im like you. always end my session in the middle of nowhere. and usually when i load up the game, i die instantly as there are some blooming npc's that magically appear where i spawn lol

You're correct Tombstone, it does depend on the person.

I just like looking around, I spned most of the time just riding around and talking to guildies. I find this is actually an important part of mmo gaming, immersing yourself in the game and forgetting about real life, while relaxing.

I know you can forget about real life while power levelling, but I also think you miss out on a lot of other aspects of the gaming experience.

Spot on. My mate is like that, he levels at a rate of knots. That's fine, but I prefer to play a bit more casually enjoying all aspects of the game. I think the only time I power level is when I've done the starting quests in an mmo so many times I'm bored to death of them/know whats coming etc.

got this game yesterday but not had chance to play it yet! will probs have a go late tonight if the missus permits :p

is the authenticator only available for anroid orrr?

EDIT: Also, am i still able to join the OcUK guild? :)

I think the Authenticator is just for android and iphone at the mo.

Good to see you get a title ingame on your characters too if you use the authenticator. "The Ironclad" , decent title for a warrior :D

Should still be able to join the ocuk guild, just jot out the app on the guildsite

EDIT : ah no, its android only currently :)

*shakeyfist* damn you blackberry and your old..ness!

i think im due for an upgrade though, had this lump of junk for quite a while!

Will check out the guild when i get back tonight.. what sort of classes seem to be post popular at the moment then?

I quite like the look of Blade Dancers and Rangers :)

Im currently a warlord/paladin/beastmaster and did finish the reaver and riftblade quests so i can change later. At what level did you run the riftblade/reaver/warlord spec. Can you give some more info regarding the build?

I used the riftblade/reaver/warlord all the way up to lvl 50.

The ranged skills in the riftblade line are great for PvP and large rift battles, of course this spec isn't a tanking build but it's great for general play and leveling.

I put 32 points into Riftblade and the rest in Reaver. Warlord has zero points in it as it's really only there for the 5% mob miss chance you get with it.

Having read a lot on here (and elsewhere) about Rift, I have finally taken the plunge and purchased a copy.

I am rather ashamed to admit though, that I have never actually played an on-line RPG before, and a lot of the terms are quite new to me... even ones such as 'leveling' and 'xp' for example.

Is there a (preferably 'free') guide on line anywhere around, which I could either download, or even read on-screen, at least until things are back 'up and running' again?

Just in case anyone mentions it, I have already found: http://www.kfguides.com/rift/guide.php which is very informative, but I would quite like to find something as basic as possible to start with.

Thanks! :)

I dont know of any guide, I am sure there are many around. Alternatively feel free to ask, nobody will laugh and always happy to help out with terms and what not.

I'd be surprised if there was a guide that basic, the problem is with MMO's is that the depth in the games is ridiculous, for the first month or so you will probably be absolutely swamped with information. The best thing you can do is just get stuck in and play it.

As for the two you've mentioned, they are both interlinked. XP or experience points, is what you get for killing monsters or completing quests in the main. In Rift you do also gain xp for discovering new places as well. You then need a certain amount of xp to gain a level, which in turn will give you new skills, or points to spend in your chosen soul tree.

Just jump in and play, Montala. The game holds your hand though the first few hours, and while it is a very deep experience, you're introduced to it all very gradually, and you do get a lot of pop-ups explaining what's happening.

It's actually quite a cool experience your first time around, as your gradually get introduced to new stuff and start to realise just what you've let yourself in for :D

Thanks you the three of you for your initial replies... it should be arriving tomorrow, so I might just 'dive in' then and see how it goes.

Probably best if I keep clear of any initial combat though, until I have explored some of the areas a bit first.

You won't be able to do that ;) The game will "force" you into combat almost as soon as you create your character. Nothing to worry about there though, its all pretty simple stuff for the first few levels.

Modern MMO's really do hold your hand in the early stages and by the time you've left the starter zone you should have a very good understanding of the game.

Hi, just a few minutes ago i tried to log into the game using my password and username as well as the android authenticator but each time it fails . i double checked to see if my email and password is valid by logging into my rift account on the website and also to this forum and its fine.

The code generated by the android app seems to not be working for me anymore as the code it gives me seems invalid each time i enter it. i tried 10-20 times and still no joy.

is it a bug or issue with rift? How do i disable this authenticator? i went into my account and into the authenticator section and could not find a option to disable it but instead, gives me the option to apply it again? i then tried to apply it again and simply get a "an error has occured, please try again later"

any suggestions? thanks
