*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

Well after repeated attempts last night to get the system to cold boot I have raised an RMA to send the bundle back.

I could boot fine at stock clocks but as soon as I enabled the profile it would hang with errors OC,OE,Od and Ab (re-seating the memory between each error) - I thought I had Bingo at one point... :o. I also had the occasional 68 and 78 errors thrown in for good measure.

On two random occasions I also lost the second RAM stick in the bios.

At this point I am somewhat fed up of just trying to get the thing to boot at the clocks I expect (bundle @ 3.9 & RAM @ 3200 C14 (8pack TG).

Raw performance wise I have nothing but positive things to say about the R5 1600 (and the 1700 I had prior) but damn, these issues have been more than annoying.

I know it’s fustrating but have you tried resetting mobo back to factory

Believe it was sometime in November, with the caveat from Asus employees that it's a total rewrite of the code in preparation for RR etc so board partners may take some time implementing it/have a few bugs initially.

Happy to be corrected tho.

Sweet. Well having to retest my oc's is fine if I can finally get the rated speed from my ram.

I expect with a rewrite current oc may change.

That is a shame.

I currently have the following with no issues and so far rock solid:

1600 @ 3.8ghz
Teamgroup Nighthawk RGB 3200mhz (@ the XMP 3200mhz profile just bumped volts to 1.4)
Gigabyte Gaming 3

Had a little hiccup when I installed the Cryorig H7 cooler earlier in the week, removal of the CMOS battery and sticking everything auto had it back up to 3.8ghz no problem.

Not bothered to push anymore as I don't think the difference between 3.8ghz and 3.9 or even 4.0ghz is worth the hassle. Just enjoy a decent performing system which is ultimately silent until the 980 GTX chirps up when gaming!

Well guys todays the day, got my ryzen 1600 and prime b350 just waiting on team dark pro mem which is due any min and a new tube of thermal

HCI memtest. 1 instance per thread utilising 95% of your memory.

I run 16 instances of 850 mb each, which leaves me about 5% memory spare for the OS.

Do a quick 100% to check stability, if thats ok, leave it going overnight. :)

memtest86 is still the best one since you can actually test all of your RAM with it (if you boot it off an USB stick), but it's somewhat slower than HCI memtest or memtest64 (both run in windows). You can set memtest86 to use all of the available threads and make it faster, but you run the risk of getting false positives.
Leaving memtest86 overnight I think should be good enough in most cases.

Managed to boot to windows and have had an hours gaming sesh at 3.9ghz with a smidge over 1.3v

I’d imagine this probably isn’t stress stable or I’ve just got an extremely good chip?

R5 1600

I've been running at stock (1700X and 8pack ram @ 3200)

I've clocked my 1080ti a little with a quick tutorial but where should I start with the CPU

Thanks

If you don't want to go through the hassle of proper stress testing, I personally find GTA V online an absolute ballache to keep happy stability wise. Had loads of mates do online and have it falling over due to overclocks.
If you get through an evening of that some time, I'd generally consider it "gaming stable". The latest PUBG build is pretty twitchy too from the look of it, tends to dump you out while on the island/pre-match lobby.

Is your 1700x set to clock itself up currently?

Sounds like someone should write up "The newbies guild to Overclocking your Ryzen Setup, CPU, Ram and Stability Tests"

Then list all the appropriate software and tests that should be used, lob up guides for various motherboards etc, would make life easier for many people and a good place to pool knowledge.

I know personally i am going to be setting up my CH6, 1700 and Ram at the weekend and ive not got a clue what settings im going to need to change yet, and what progs i should be using to test the OC's etc.

Theres a ton of info out there too and programs that help you setup the Ram and whatnot.

Im fairly certain also theres a lot of do's and dont's with these cpu's, safe voltage limits etc etc.

Would be awesome to have all that knowledge like an encyclopedia in one place :)

Thats the issue when starting out. too much info scattered all over.

I have a CH6, 1700X and 32gb of 8Pack 3200mhz ram. running at 3200 yay

I think that sounds about right.

I just stuck mine to 3.8 in bios but left everything as auto. Runs stable @ 1.25 I think...can't be bothered tweaking for the extra 100 - 200mhz!

Have you got your ram running at 3200mhz also? Just had to bump my voltage up to 1.4v.

It took 1.35v for me to get 3.8Ghz stable.
