*** Official Ryzen Owners Thread ***

I think it is, but I'm happy with the temp/performance balance so I'll just leave it at that until I need more performance, which I don't think I will as I'm already very impressed with it.

XFR is single thread turbo with smaller applications. Not all cores at the same time.

Oh right, mine's currently at 3700 on all cores, I want all cores to clock down when idle as currently they're all stuck at 3700, but that'll probably be fixed in the bios updates.

Still watching with interest here also... but not convinced just yet with the pending updates. What are people generally feeling about it's compatibility now and when would you think is a good point to pull the trigger for someone not in a mad rush?

What are you coming from? For someone on an older platform go for it. Ram speeds are the only thing holding ryzen back at the moment but even now its no slouch. If you are not in a rush keep an eye on this thread, people are always updating with their experiences.

Not when overclocked. You need Pstates for that.
Is Pstate disabled when faster RAM is used or when the core is overclocked? I dont want to overclock the CPU but want to use faster RAM. Think I read that AMD supports upto 2666, does that mean I can set the RAM to 2666 and still keep all the standard boost stuff? I have ordered some faster RAM so will find out tomorrow.

Yes you can still use faster ram without overclocking the CPU.

I understand a lot of you guys are in the same or similar position. So I thought I would put up a post.

Upgrading from a 2500k @ 4.1, 12Gb DDR3 1600 Ram.

But first... The photos :)

  • AMD Ryzen R7 1700 @ 3.9Ghz (4Ghz when upgrading from stock cooler)
  • 16Gb G-Skill Trident ZRGB CL14 DDR4 Ram @ 3200mhz
  • Asus ROG Crosshair 6 Hero AM4 X370 Motherboard
  • NZXT. 440 Case
  • Gigabyte GTX960 4Gb Graphics Card (Ported from previous PC, will upgrade soon)
  • 2x 256Gb Samsung SSD Drives, 1x WD 640 SATA HDD
So the build went really well. Booted first time, which is always a bonus - however, the Crosshair seem to take an age to boot as it goes through all of the codes :)
I upgraded the BIOS to 902, it came shipped with 702. Heard a number of horror stories. I flashed another 2-3 times to take me up to 1002. AMD Matt - big help for the advice on getting the RAM up to speed with settings and pointed out that I had ram in the wrong slots!

There is a profile for OC to 4Ghz which actually works and installs Windows. But its not stable. I've not had chance to play around with it but worried about the temps as creeping over the 73c mark. 3.9Ghz seems rock solid, pretty much all I've done is change the clock speed and left voltage to auto. I choose the G-Skill RGB Ram as I've heard good things about the Samsung B chips and these boards. The biggest issue I have at the moment is it will only warm boot with the RAM settings, despite being 100% stable (Apparently know BIOS bug) I'm sleeping the PC in the mean time, which to be fair I previously always used to do.

+ Everything so far seems effortless in terms of performance (Big Adobe Premier & Photoshop files)
+ RAM Running @ 3200 14-14-14-34 T1 Stable
+ Stock Cooler actually pretty decent for up to 3.9Ghz, runs very quiet

- RAM Bug, will not cold boot @ 3200 (Known BIOS Issue)
- Unable to get my old school Logitech speakers working correctly, only coming out of one channel on the O/B sound card (Was fine previously) Impedance??
- Bios at times can be a little buggy, you kind of get a feel for it after a while. Boot drive change "No Settings changed" reboot, set it again and it's fine - little bits like that.

Overall. I'm a very happy boy :)

Nice build. You seem to have a good chip there. Mine will not post with the 4.0 preset.
Have you tried increasing DRAM boot voltage?
I had sound the same sound issue yesterday but on front panel using headphone a reboot sorted it.

This was the CPUz bench @ 4Ghz.

Yes, the current RAM boot voltage is set to 1.4v, still the same.

I've been using my headphones on the front jack as my headphones worked fine in the rear, thought it was my speakers. Just woken it up and now only the left channel is working. Hopefully drivers?

Pstates will be on by default, however, if I go into the bios and set to 3.7Ghz with auto volts, is downclocks as normal just pushes the all cores to 3.7Ghz together.

EDIT, As a matter of fact, when I select any clock, with windows balance power setting, they all downclock on idle.

Yeah try reinstalling the audio drivers. No idea on your RAM though :/

It certainly doesn't work like that on the crosshair, we have to modify Pstates to get it to downclock and downvolt.

Nice! Whats the Taichi like? I've heard good things on it. What speed is your RAM?

Well installed Process Lasso Pro + ParkControl very handy TBH.
I set it up so Wow/Any other game i want will be using only Physical cores from One core bank/unit/whatsitsname with Higher priority on last 4 cores.
Wow Runs even better :]

Still maximum stable OC i can get is 3944 tried everything been on it since 9am till 8pm :(

6700k so not really old but SLI 1080s pretty reasonably clocked and the CPU just chokes under the pressure. Also tempted for the improvements in video editing/rendering so again seems Adobe Premiere is a little bit sketchy still at the moment but no rush - stupidly missed a 5960 on the MM which might have done me a treat. Will keep my eyes on it, everyones doing a good job talking over the issues - would love a few more comparisons of 1800x vs 1700 OC results if anyones got them :)
