*** Official SONOS Thread ***

Things are a bit ropey at the moment. Most worrying is the general disinterest Sonos has shown in the mess they've made and why it happened, they rushed out incomplete alpha software as a general release just to allow their headphones to be released on time.

Not a premium experience and still not fixed.

I recall dealing with a lot of connectivity issues when I was doing ISP support stuff but hope it had moved on a little, seems to have gotten worse if anything.

While I was all for waiting for the Gen 2 Max, for my sins I’ve done a 180 and think I’m gonna pick up a pair of the Sonos Ace tomorrow….

Anyone else get the lame apology email from the CEO today still failing to admit they rushed the release of terribly flawed app! The timeline they are giving for fixing really basic things is just getting longer and longer it’s really annoying to see a once market leading and innovative company fail so badly. My app is getting steadily more usable but the volume control is still appalling, the dropouts have become less regular but are still a problem and the inability to use a local library is definitely spoiling my enjoyment!

Nope, not had that.

Local library? Do you mean music on your NAS, or phone?
On my network they took out SMB v1 support so I can’t use the USB stick in the back of the router I’ve been using for years.

To our listeners,

We know that too many of you have experienced significant problems with our new app which rolled out on May 7, and I want to begin by personally apologizing for disappointing you. There isn’t an employee at Sonos who isn’t pained by having let you down, and I assure you that fixing the app for all of our customers and partners has been, and continues to be, our number one priority.

We developed the new app to create a better experience, with the ability to drive more innovation in the future, and with the knowledge that it would get better over time. However, since launch we have found a number of issues. Fixing these issues has delayed our prior plan to quickly incorporate missing features and functionality.

Since May 7, we have released new software updates approximately every two weeks, each making significant and meaningful improvements, adding features and fixing bugs. Please see the release notes for Sonos software updates for detailed information on what has been released to date.

While these software updates have enabled the majority of our customers to have a robust experience using the Sonos app, there is more work to be done. We have prioritized the following improvements in our next phase of software updates:

July and August:
Improving the stability when adding new products
Implementing Music Library configuration, browse, search, and play
August and September:
Improving Volume responsiveness
User Interface improvements based on customer feedback
Improving overall system stability and error handling
September:
Improving the reliability of Alarm consistency and reliability
September and October:
Restoring edit mode for Playlists and the Queue
Improving functionality in settings

We plan to continue releasing new software updates on a bi-weekly cadence. With each release, we will share detailed notes on what we’ve addressed and what we’re working on next in our Community.

We deeply appreciate your patience as we address these issues. We know we have work to do to earn back your trust and are working hard to do just that. I am always open to your feedback, you can find me via email at [email protected] .

Sincerely,
Patrick Spence

Yep was sitting in my inbox this morning.

I hate this world in which nobody is willing to admit they properly screwed up, there is always an excuse! When in reality deploying this absolute turd of an upgrade is pretty unforgivable! There is no way on earth they didn’t know it was totally borked before release yet they just went ahead anyway it’s shocking.

Yes, I got the "apology" email. What a load of bull, putting aside the fact the app was broken, why release an app with less features than your previous app. All it does is upset your customers who have spent a fortune with you.

I know how they can admit to deliberately rolling out a new app knowing it wasn’t finished and was missing so many existing features is beyond me, someone should be getting the sack!

Agreed, somebody should have been handed their P45 for this mess.
Shareholders gotta get paid, bro.
Look at the damage the app has done, the app was supposed to be launched to be compatible with the new headphones. Has anybody bought the headphones, have they been a success? There are rumours of an Arc 2 launching soon, with the app broken people aren't going to buy that either, shareholders aren't going to get paid.

The launch of the headphones seems like the most ludicrous reason to release such a badly borked app. They are an incredibly niche product and don’t actually work as part of the Sonos ecosystem anyway. I’m really torn at the minute as I was looking to expand my Sonos system as part of a loft refurbishment and at the minute I’m reluctant to spend the premium for what no longer feels like a premium product.

This is why Sonos/Shareholders should be worried. You are not the only one. Sonos products have always been premium with a premium price tag but they worked and were supported and updated for years, but releasing a broken app has shown Sonos customers what can happen to their products.

If Sonos went out of business their customers would be left with some pricey paperweights, unless they opened up the architecture to allow their continued use once they went out of business.

Sonos aren’t going to go out of business. They ****** the app up, acknowledged it and are going to rectify it.

We should all really move on with our lives but you know, the internet… lol

I didnt say they are going out of business, I surely hope not anyway, I use them a lot :)

Was just pointing out what would be the likely result if they did, its not like you can just plug the speakers into another amp etc, its a risk when buying into locked eco systems, much like Apple, you can have a perfectly functioning piece of kit, but Apple decide they no longer want to support it and that's it, looks at old iPad, they still work well but cant load any new software etc.

Does anyone have experience of the amp/ceiling/wall speakers?

App issues aside (I wish they'd focus on stability rather than new products :p), we're looking at adding some speakers to our sonos system, I think unless I read something blaringly obvious we haven't really the energy to research moving systems. The wife would like to bury some, and to be honest I must admit with two children that can damage or dirty-ify anything I can understand a certain appeal. I appreciate they're perhaps not going to be amazing quality, but are they any good? Are the amps decent? Do I have to use a sonos amp? I've read conflicting answers to that so just wondering if anyone has one, they seem expensive and seem to claim that each listening "zone" needs an additional amp.
