Does anyone have experience of the amp/ceiling/wall speakers?

App issues aside (I wish they'd focus on stability rather than new products :p), we're looking at adding some speakers to our sonos system, I think unless I read something blaringly obvious we haven't really the energy to research moving systems. The wife would like to bury some, and to be honest I must admit with two children that can damage or dirty-ify anything I can understand a certain appeal. I appreciate they're perhaps not going to be amazing quality, but are they any good? Are the amps decent? Do I have to use a sonos amp? I've read conflicting answers to that so just wondering if anyone has one, they seem expensive and seem to claim that each listening "zone" needs an additional amp.

I use amps for outdoor speakers and some in ceiling and yes each amp can only do one zone, when choosing speakers get a good match.

For ceiling mount I use Blue Cube https://www.blucubespeakers.co.uk/the-range/ and outdoor I use Monitor Audio climate range https://www.richersounds.com/hi-fi/hi-fi-speakers/outdoor-speakers.html?brand=7373

Interesting thanks @SupraWez - I hadn't even thought about looking at non sonos speakers :p, rather dozy of me but of course the sonos app connects to the amp in this case doesn't it so it is irrelevant whats connected down the line. That would certainly help balance the cost of the sonos amps though so worth looking into, thanks.

Yeah the speakers are dumb, just buy whatever ones you want.

The AMP also has a sub out so you can beef up the sound with an active sub if needed, again any brand, I have used ELAC and Tannoy in the past :)

There is also the Sonos Connect which enables you to use your own amplifier as well, depending on the model of the Sonos Amp and Connect also has audio input so you can connect up a record deck, cd player, cassette player etc, that can the be routed to any other zones you have configured, I did this for someone, they had a massive vinyl collection so used an Amp which meant he could choose a record deck and speakers, once connected to the Amp the audio could also be routed to other zones around the house, works well.

Still having issues with the app. Every update seems to break something else. Today all my radio stations are missing from my favourites and my Mrs can't even play anything, she just gets a something went wrong message.

Had enough now and want to move away from Sonos. Any recommendations on where to go? I just want to be able to play music and playlists from my NAS, Spotify and radio stations.

Seem to have lost my TruePlay settings, sound has noticeable changed and it says I need to update my system to do TruePlay.

Scared to update it as everything is working at the moment. That's the damage they've done to their brand with this new app mess

Scored a SONOS bargain today on facebook market place, I've wanted a sonos connect ever since I got my old seperates system back out but have been loath to pay through the nose for what is essentially an interface. Browsing market place and see someone selling for £60 what he thinks are two Gen1 Sonos Connect:amps and a Gen1 connect all of which would only work on the S1 app, the connect had the play pause button which is normally a dead giveaway of a gen2 which works with S2 so I pulled the trigger picked them up and after a bit of faffing the connect is up and running on S2 and my old separates kit it now part of the setup! The amps look to be gen1's so I will move them on and hopefully be quids in!

Amps confirmed as S1 look to be working fine so back on marketplace they go.

Yeah it’s seems to be mostly working now. I can actually use the app to play music.

I’ve also noticed that you can play playlists bigger than 1000 songs as well now, something you couldn’t do before
Mine has definitely got better, devices seem to all be present when I open the app, music starts and even grouping and volume works they have even fixed my biggest gripe and I can now stop music that I have started it’s good to have it back up and running!

My only gripe still, is that they don’t yet have the same level of functionality they did before the update.

EQ and sound settings still take extra taps.
