******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I think Star marine might be part of 2.0 now (happy to be proven wrong there)

On the whole a lot of the core mechanics are now working together, fps, ava, multi crew, ship gravity and now a solar system to play in. The problem is we have seen it all by itself before, so the impact isn't as big as I think it should have been seeing it altogether for the first time :(

They will still do Star Marine for weapon balancing etc plus the map is done they won't waste it.

Tbh the impact will be when its all working and seeing your org roll as one. I know Pagan has an Idris so that will be amazing.

Really enjoyed what I saw at Citizen Con but my worries about how clunky the movement feels especially in EVA still seem to be present. If they can make it smooth it will be spectacular, as it stands it looks awkward including moving around your ship.

I'm hoping that will improve. And performance, of course. :D

Wondering why they haven't used Euphoria, it's the best that is at the moment.

Yeah, the way they presented it, Star Marine is still a separate thing, but they are so far along with the mini-PU that both will be released at the same time in 2.0

Yeah, Star Marine will be another in-fiction simulator for combat, Arena Commander for foot soldiers.

I can imagine SM being released before Multicrew, but not the other way around. I'd imagine whatever is blocking it would be an issue in a larger universe. Maybe with it not being an 'FPS simulator' it could be overlooked, whereas a bugged SM module if it cant do what its supposed to do, whats the point... i dunno.

I completely forgot to check on here to see who'd be attending, been a while since i'd been on and only met up with a couple from Bit-Tech. Amazing day though, no disappointments from it. I only went away a little upset i didnt see any Starfarer update, but hardly surprising really.

@Dolphin - Cracking job you guys have done, stunning technology, and i dont think it'd be unreasonable to say it possibly stole the show. Kudos to CIG for spotting the work you're doing, and to those of you working on it. From what bits of the livestream ive seen it didnt capture the audience as loud as it was amongst it, there was a few times when you'd hear the crowd gasping and muttering words of surprise, the light-sensing pupils was definitely one of the biggest moments, but i bet it doesnt come across in the live stream.

And Rhona Mitra... i see her name, and word association takes me straight to Kama Sutra - purely cos they sound similar!! :D:D

Not just that, but ships, even large ones are too sensitive to RCS thrusters.
That bit where one of the big multi-crew one's land and you can see how (yeaaa it isn't finished) they have to get close to the object to deploy landing gear and not do it manually so it means you need to give it a second or two.

Then has to keep tapping down thruster because holding it would damage the ship and you can't adjust the output. You know what looks really cool? Seeing a ship come in smoothly like they're supposed to with the landing gear pre-deployed. I don't know if it was recorded or live but it looks cheap. All they need to do is turn off flight-assist and tap down thrust for a tiny bit and it will land smoothly. I know it's minor thing but if you fail at minor things you're not showing promise for the things that count.

That or get someone who makes ship control look better for your advertising.
I've got a feeling this sort of stuff is how they want it and won't be changed in retail :(

They spoke during the show about the 4 types of flight they'll be running: precision (landing, mining etc), combat (regular mode), cruise (fast, minor steering), and quantum.
Seems like right now they have regular/combat and quantum and thats it. They also have (its been in AC for about 6mo) auto pilot/landing, they used it in the press version when the hornet landed either at the fuel or fps stop.

So lets not make assumptions about how stuffs going to work based on watching only a bit of footage. By all means ask, then when told 'thats normal' say its a bad idea, but dont **** something off based on your lack of info and effort to find out.

Also, pretty sure landing gear is deployed any time you want to. Again, thats in-game now, what you saw was most likely someone making their landing and then realising they hadnt already put their gear down. its not automatic by force, might be an option, but i very much doubt it.

As for the nature of the footage, these guys are doing things live on stage in view of the audience (hence the occasional heckle like 'FOUR' when everyone assumes they're all going to the same landing pad :D), they know what they need to do, so its semi choreographed (fly to A, dogfight, EVA, repair station, get back in ship, fly to B...), but its not scripted, not planned so bob shoots dave, dave then gets killed by fred etc, they play the game in an honest fashion. Im hate the trend of fake demos, like The Division, where there happens to be a mixture of sex & race amongst the people playing, with their cheesy primary school grade dialogue.
Its that American showmanship nonsense, its fake and dishonest/misleading to lure you in, then eventually ship something inferior to the 'gameplay footage' showed a year or 2 earlier, because none of it was ever real to begin with.

At least with SC what you see is what they've got, its not sugar coated and manipulated to mislead you into thinking its amazing, if you think its amazing, great. If you see issues, thats because thats the state of the game a long way from completion. Personally, i love that they do things this way, i feel like it gives me a honest opportunity to evaluate the state of things.

damn double-post cos the site went down.

A good enough excuse to point out they hit $92m just 30min ago, and almost 3,000 shy of hitting 1m citizens. Ive no idea if 1 citizen = 1 account with a package, or any account, but if its any, expect a ton of new signups when they get within 20-50 from that target, im certain CIG will give the 1,000,000th account a Constellation or something, and plenty will try and spam grab that account number for no other reason.

A Citizen is anyone who's put any money in, even if its a $5 skin
UEE fleet is people that have an Arena Commander Pass
Some game packages now don't come with an AC pass, so theres around 200k people who have preordered the game but are not bothered about Alpha access

A citizen is anyone who signed up I thought?

A backer is anyone who put any money it.

on the forums, yes, but on the ticker on the front page, that shows nearly 1million "citizens", its backers, not just people who've signed up to the forum

CIG have never been very consistent on terminology used on the website vs. the forum

edit: correction, people who haven't backed are "civilians" not citizens, when you become a backer you get the option of changing your forum icon to "Citizen"

Yeah, thats good news then, so theres already an account number 1,000,000 because some are empty accounts or whatever. That also means that anyone wanting to scoop the 1m'th citizen title needs to spend money to achieve that... and im fine with that, cos there'll be more losers than winners in that game... assuming there's even a 'winner' scenario.

Still not much actually delivered, dont know how much you know about it? but we still just have arena commander, oh and one plannetside location.

The scope for the next big update is massive though, FPS, multi crew, missions all in a huge playable area.

No dates given, very very soon apparently lol.

My personal feeling is about a month.

What options are there these days to 'back' the game and be able to play?

I loved ED but it has no depth. I really want to try this out. But fear the development will take years. Everytime I check up on the game to see how far it's from full release. I just get "soon".
