They spoke during the show about the 4 types of flight they'll be running: precision (landing, mining etc), combat (regular mode), cruise (fast, minor steering), and quantum.
Seems like right now they have regular/combat and quantum and thats it. They also have (its been in AC for about 6mo) auto pilot/landing, they used it in the press version when the hornet landed either at the fuel or fps stop.
So lets not make assumptions about how stuffs going to work based on watching only a bit of footage. By all means ask, then when told 'thats normal' say its a bad idea, but dont
**** something off based on your lack of info and effort to find out.
Also, pretty sure landing gear is deployed any time you want to. Again, thats in-game now, what you saw was most likely someone making their landing and then realising they hadnt already put their gear down. its not automatic by force, might be an option, but i very much doubt it.
As for the nature of the footage, these guys are doing things live on stage in view of the audience (hence the occasional heckle like 'FOUR' when everyone assumes they're all going to the same landing pad

), they know what they need to do, so its semi choreographed (fly to A, dogfight, EVA, repair station, get back in ship, fly to B...), but its not scripted, not planned so bob shoots dave, dave then gets killed by fred etc, they play the game in an honest fashion. Im hate the trend of fake demos, like The Division, where there happens to be a mixture of sex & race amongst the people playing, with their cheesy primary school grade dialogue.
Its that American showmanship nonsense, its fake and dishonest/misleading to lure you in, then eventually ship something inferior to the 'gameplay footage' showed a year or 2 earlier, because none of it was ever real to begin with.
At least with SC what you see is what they've got, its not sugar coated and manipulated to mislead you into thinking its amazing, if you think its amazing, great. If you see issues, thats because thats the state of the game a long way from completion. Personally, i love that they do things this way, i feel like it gives me a honest opportunity to evaluate the state of things.
