******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I melted my 300i for a gladius, really like the way it flys and much prefer the gimbal for the gun. will have a proper play once i get a stick and get to spend more than 10 minutes in game, crashes and performance have been pretty bad since the last update.

pretty sure performance should be better but im not digging around too much at the moment, see what updates bring first.

Thats easy, theyve said there's going to be 2 "condition" stats in the game, one for damage states and another for kind of wear and tear / age... When you lose a ship, the ship you get will be identical model, and will be fully repaired of damage, but will have the same aging/mileage on it as the one you lost

Forgot to say thanks the other day, so.... Thanks :D
Weird that they're going with the route that requires there to be sufficient supplies of 2nd-hand ships of similar state for the insurance to give you that. A 2nd hand market will exist, but it'd make the insurance business a key player in the buying of them, which is a bit stupid. That said, constantly giving away shrink-wrapped ships hot off the factory floor, for a busted ship, isnt a good solution either. Not sure there's a better way.

We'll have the ability to restore the condition of a ship too, so hopefully (at a cost) we can still keep our ships in a good condition even if the hull suggests its a relic.

I used Roccat a lot when playing Elite Dangerous, works fine on phones/tablets but I've only ever used it on Android devices. You could use Bluestacks to emulate it and try it out that way on the Surface. One major limitation with the program is it's inability to rotate to landscape. Portrait is OK but in many cases landscape would make things that little bit neater and tidier.

If you are only using a T16000M then it'd be ideal for power regulation, turning shields etc on/off and for the less useful commands like automatic landing, lights, eject etc. However if you do have a throttle, even a basic separate then I think you'll end up with just the really out of combat stuff on it such as landing gear etc as taking your hands off a throttle during combat isn't the best idea.

It is very handy though no doubt about it but the Roccat devs have been promising a landscape orientation plus ton of other updates for well over a year now and haven't delivered which is an absolute mystery to me - this little application works well, there's very little input lag and they could be making a fortune off it. I prefer it by a mile over voice attack (partly as I like being on Teamspeak).

I had never thought to look into an emulator :D Im downloading it now, its certainly worth a try!

I also run this machine as a web server for testing purposes, so the other one you mentioned might be worth a try. Xampplite is pretty simple all-in-one for php/sql installations, and it can either run as a service or upon request. I'd imagine theres a few other alternatives, ive just used that one for about 10yrs.

Hopefully CIG or the community create something amazing as access to data becomes available. I've kinda accepted dev-talk about companion apps as being underwhelming when released, i guess if anyone could break that mould it'd be CIG, as the only people they have to please and justify things to is the community. They hired Behaviour for their website needs, and they've built a stunning Starmap when something much more basic would have been sufficient. Hopefully they'll do the same thing with any companion apps for SC.

This worth getting into now? I hear the really good deals are done but I'm thinking about the benefits of buying at alpha

The *best* deal is probably gone ($30 + VAT for the discounted bundle), but you can still get a package for $40-45 which includes both SQ42 (single player, due '2016') and Star Citizen (First Person MMO), as well as access to all the alpha stuff as its available.

At some point near the end of the month they'll be splitting packages so SQ42 and SC will be 2 entities, you'd buy SQ42 & SC as separate AAA titles, presumably with AAA title prices.

So regardless of opinions on whether the playable content is worth buying the game now or not, theres definitely a saving if you believe it'll be worth owning SQ42/SC in the future.
SQ42 could end up being discounted and being available for £5-15 later after launch, but i suspect SC would be one of those titles where the entry price is fixed for 95% of the year, with the odd discounted offer. But expect it to be based on say 2018 prices, not 2015. So it could well be a significant price saving today vs buying upon release.

Buying options
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Aurora-LN
https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Mustang-Alpha-AC-Starter

Those 2 are the cheapest entry at £35.10 incl VAT (damn, GBP is now the cheapest currency, its ~£36.66 in USD and similar in EUR), they're the same price, include the same contents except its a different ship. Aurora is a 'flying skip' and fairly multipurpose, the Mustangs are more nimble but cant take the hits as well. Both are entry level ships, with every other ship available to purchase in-game as such features are implemented (and they can be rented, by earning rental credits by playing parts of the game online, and theres often 'free-fly' weeks for different ships to try them).
The Aurora LN is actually worth $5 more, despite being the same price, mainly because they're still selling 'AC Starter' packages, which used to be a $5 addon. Thats free for all now.

If you do buy one, either use the random referral code generator (link) or mine (STAR-G7WP-29QV).
Using a referral code gets you a free 5,000UEC (in-game currency worth $5USD), and the referrer gets small in-game perks for each referral (1 = free gun, 5 = free buggy & fishtank etc). The generator just pulls one random from everyone who's submitted their code to it.

Meh, thats no good, for that you have to depend on the Live Server behaving which half the time it doesn't, and that other people are there, which mostly there aren't.

Like this its very difficult to build up enough REC for trying out ships before you buy.

Well, i just made 4,000 REC from coming 2'nd in Vanduul Swarm Co-op and winning one race in the trusty Omega. so much for the little rant ^^^^

I borrowed my self this, so far i like it a lot, fly's nice, good firepower and i like the fact that it has a walk in interior, not just a cockpit.

£15.60 to upgrade from the Aurora LN.

Not intended as a knock, but ive never quite got the 300 series. Its a nice ship, it just feels a little lost. They're still in the entry level and somewhat generic role, and a fair bit more expensive than other 'entry level' ships ($35 vs $55 for an LN). With an Aurora, it is what it is. They've just seemed like none of them (350 aside) have their purpose nailed down.
The Avenger, Reliant, Mustangs... i feel like each has a intended purpose and multi-function. The 300i, 315p & 325A feel like they're identical, like they need attention similar to the Freelancer, Conny & Cutlass, not drastic changes, but at least give each one a proper identity inside and out. Certainly needs something doing in the insides as its largely wasted when you compare it to something like the Mustang Delta.

In 3yrs they've got better at doing what needs to be done and these are showing their age. Fortunately CIG know it, they're just not going back to fixing things at work when there more benefit in working on ships that arent done and will help with building other game-mechanics that other teams will need to progress.

I found my 300i a little sloppy in maneuvers, it certainly didn't feel 'tight'. Apparently has one of the best mounted guns in the game also but it is so sloppy in dog fights it is almost wasted. This however may have a lot to do with my pathetic piloting skills with a mouse also though.

I did hear someone say the 300 series is getting a overhaul and aesthetically i still think it is the most appealing starter ship.

I don't mind how the ships looks and I love the idea of it on paper - I actually really like the 315 and 325 but the manoeuvring thrusters just seem weak as hell, it's like playing Tokyo Drift in 3 dimensions, I'm not sure CIG really know where to place them and in dogfighting terms get the impression they'll be very average amongst the sub hornet level ships although the 325 should in the right hands be able to annoy hornet owners rather than simply be swatted aside.

Hello, just bought into this and my mate is getting it tonight. Is there any chance that you can eventually buy a two seated ship to share between us? So we can go out together on missions, mining etc?

You should be able to do that ^^^^^ yes :)

Anyway....

If your coming from an LN its really not bad at all, it certainly handles a lot better.

IMO it does feel like the first ship that is more purposeful, no its not anything like as good as the Hornet but that costs 2x more, of course its better :)
The Mustang Beta is cheaper and handles better but that has paper amour and paper shields, as does the Delta, if the 300 series handled anything like them then what's the point in those?
If it did you'd end up with a ship more like the Hornet, so then what is the point of that at £85 or the Gladiolus at £70?

The 300 series is another step toward something like that, not as good as but a better all rounder than cheaper ships.

Don't forget the Reliant, it's in whiteboxing if I remember correctly so may be in-testing soon(ish) and it's another two person ship.

Didn't know about that, any idea what price range it will come in at, how soon will it be flyable?

What else is there to do at the moment guys, I've done the relays and a lot of flying around but kinda getting bored. I've only for the 1 ship, the 315.

Thats pretty much it for now, arena Commander and Olisar Crusader, after 2 years of development work you'd think there would be more to it.

I just mess about, hang around the Olisar Port and do childish things like get really close to ships that are about to take off, when they get in their chair they are confronted by my ships nose up against theirs, in my mind that's funny and it makes me giggle.

Or Scoop people up with the nose of my ship, often when they see me coming toward them that close they stop wait and then try to climb onto my ship, again it makes me giggle.

F12 will bring up the chat window, talk to people, find out where they are and go meet them to mingle, you end up in a little flock of ships just prating about.

At the moment there isn't anything to do, for now its all just silliness before it all gets serious.
