******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

After spending some time with it i have decided i don't like the 300i as much as i initially did.

Its the guns, they are powerful but you only get two and they overheat far too easily.

The 325A looks like it has much better weapons but i don't want to spend another £30 in one go.

So i'm thinking about the Avenger

I'm currently trying to earn some REC so i can test it out.

You could swap the guns out, what does the 300i come with? I REALLY like Badgers, size 2. Take ages to overheat but don't do a huge amount of damage - but I to still tend to use them on an Avenger over it's stock wing mounted ones.

The Avenger seems to be a popular choice, not sure if thats because its potentially overpowered at the moment, or what it is, but it seems to be well liked and iirc only a $5 upgrade.

One of my favourites in terms of looks too, feels like a NASA ship (im sure that was part of the inspiration behind its styling) which is kinda cool, and it seems like its got more variety of function/roles than the others, with it having a cargo, bounty hunter (prisoner cells), and EMP variants on identical hulls, meaning you'll be able to strip those cells for cargo runs etc. The 300-series feel like a BMW with a CD-changer so it can swap between classical, pop, rock etc. The Avenger feels more like a Transit van, and what you do with that space defines it. The 300-series needs the same treatment. Strip those pointless padded seats out, stick some hardware in there, maybe a collapsing chair, and make it a small scale explorer (perhaps life-support for only 1 person, if 2 man crew makes it too powerful), have the option to have nothing back there for small storage, they need to do stuff like this and make that pointless bit in the middle mean something beyond how lavish the trimmings are in the back.
The issue is i think the Avenger was always going to be easy to do something like this, its always had that box area, but the 300's just have that dome-like shape and its not a very helpful shape to work with, its much more limiting.

Avenger is a great ship, let's hope they don't spoil it following the rework! I agree about it being a Transit van of the skies, it's got the chance to do everything, in many ways it's the lone worker's constellation or Freelancer :)

Is the gladius limited to what guns can be fitted or is it purely the size of the guns for each mount? Also shields, i rented a set of guns and a size 3 shield to try but they are not showing in the manifest and wonder if i made a booboo and rented the wrong equipment.

Yes all ships are limited mate, I personally did the same thing a couple of weeks ago (can't remove the Avenger gimbaled main gun apparently!). I always check in the hangar now then alt-tab out to buy with REC, relog to fit.

It's a pain that you don't get an automatic refund if weapons aren't mounted.. I may actually request that now, can't mount? here's your REC back after X days..

I've suggested it, not via Issue Council as it's not for suggestions but more focused on bugs alone.

i did check gun size, size 1 for the wing, size 2 for the nose, even got a size 2 gimbal for the nose as the one on seemed gun specific. The shield generator is a size 3, the ship says it takes a size three and it is in the manifest until i add the ship, then it disappears.

Oh well, you live you learn!

The wing cannons could do with a buff on the Avenger, they are pretty naff IMO.

Other than that, yeah nice ship.

But to cite PaulC2K i am more of a BMW man, i do like the premiumness of the 300 series, its nice. so i may get the Avenger with it being the last step to the 325A and then the Gladiolus, onwards and upwards.....

I have to say tho i will miss the Aurora LN, IMO it packs a bigger punch to the Avenger, or at least i find it easier and more satisfying to take out my opponents with the LN, it also doesn't suffer the constant G-Force thing nor does it run out of ammo and its just as durable.

Edit, i just noticed something, if i buy the Avenger as a stand alone packed i get the Aeroview Hanger with it, i'm still on the gloomy old Self Land.
I'm wondering if i should exchange the LN for the $35 Store credit and top up the account for the remainder to get the Avenger with the Aeroview Hanger?

if you upgrade you still get the hangar of the upgraded ship as well, you just have to go to the "my hangar" section of the website and click "Configuration" to choose what hangar and then place ships in to it

Expected word of 10FTC to have spread already. Best 10FTC of the year! :D Seriously though, brilliant episode, covered a lot of interesting things.

02:07 - Ship Persistence
03:52 - Configuring your ship to use in 2.0 Mini PU
04:59 - Buy and Sell Used Ships
06:43 - Stealth Game Play
08:01 - Ability for Privateers/Corsairs/Buccaneers
09:43 - Landing on Planets
12:52 - Subscriber Benifits
13:52 - Game Manual
17:51 - Procedurally-Generated Environments
19:44 - Starfarer's Refueling Mechanic

#10 included the fact that the Starfarer is expected to be hangar ready at the end of the month, which had my jaw on the floor!

Picked up a cheeky $20 Andromeda to Starfarer G CCU on the back of that news.
I looked at some videos and WiP pictures, its massive, compared to everything else in game so far, I just have to have a go in it as soon as its flyable.

^^ I'm actually worried we'll need 3 or 4 people just to use the Starfarer as it is, I originally had one when it was a 2 man vessel about 12 months ago. I can get it back easily enough but won't if it's going to need a reasonably large crew. Like the fact it's big but don't necessarily want that to mean larger crew requirements :(

Now if we can gather raw materials THEN refine fair enough but if it has to happen at the same time and can't be done with 1 or 2 people then I'll probably pass on it and look to get a Vanguard or the prowler when it pops up at some point.

I asked on the forum just to be sure: this is what i got back.

I think i'll just melt it.

Thanks anyway Andy :)

Shove badgers on the Avengers wings and you're laughing, pew pew all day long without overheating essentially. Remember you can replace gear on ships - don't class them as good/bad depending on the stock stuff you get - in game that's not even a factor.

So take it i can get 10K UEC from here

Use that to buy weapons here

And i can mount them to the Avenger, and other ships?

I still have my 5K UEC from the packed.

Having loads of fun in this now with the gladius, dog fighting is much better than in the 300I (obviously :D). But man those super hornets turn on a penny and shift like **** off a stick! They pack a punch also.

Managed to come 2nd in a battle royale which I was quite chuffed with but I'm so eager to pick up a flight stick now, more so for a dedicated throttle, I find I have a habbit off holding down W and and only tapping S, a dedicated throttle will be much more fun to use.

lateral and vertical thrusters, I'm having a ball using these to manouver in dog fights, really enjoy the extra dimension they add and the nimbleness in proximity flying/evading but can you upgrade them, I find they are quite lacklustre. maybe I'm using too much forward momentum from the main engines and expecting to much from the thrusters, do I need to manage throttle more carefully to get better performance from the thrusters? Either way if you upgrade the power plant(engines) does this upgrade the thrusters also?

Not yet, but they will be in the PU, along with the main engine and all the other components. you won't be able to fit anything larger than the maximum size permitted, but more expensive thrusters may have better values even if they are the same size.
