******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

yeah, cheers for the insight humbug, i saw the reddit post and read a little and none of it i saw covered the reasons why its more complicated than you'd think like you put it.

Im not sure if you've all been catching this already, but if you recall back to around the beginning of December there were comments from Ben and i think even CR made a passing comment about something amazing they'd seen and were just blown away by it, calling others to come check it out, and it ended up being the procedural landing we saw during the livestream. Well theres been a few similar comments from people at CIG in the last week or so about the fact that Chris and Erin are in Frankfurt at the moment and they're picking their jaws off the floor at how well this tech is coming along. Presumably (and unsupported) they've started doing more complex landscapes, like trees and vegetation, bodies of water and stuff like that, stuff that goes beyond random moon surfaces. This could end up being so much better than many of us anticipated when they mentioned it as a stretch goal around the 45m milestone mark i think.

The most likely purpose at the time seemed to be for creating unique asteroid fields and stuff like that. Content that didnt justify someone modelling every single instance and shouldnt be identical to every other version etc.

The way its going, they've got the lore which explains jumppoints coming and going, which opens up the possibility of an unknown system being reachable for the first time, and discovering planets which took very little effort to generate, being able to land on them and explore them, possibly discovering signs of an unknown civilisation having been there already. Over time official landing zones could be built and the planets colonised, and then you've got outposts who need supplies, rescue missions, and so on.
While all of this is going on, CIG can be creating that new race and feeding their lore into artifacts, getting an idea of them from wreckage found on planets, and when they've built it up sufficiently, they can connect us with that new race, their populated planets, built around a thriving economy with their own ships etc.
The ProcGen can basically build them systems where they just need to plant the seeds in there for us to find them, while 95% of the work is spent building everything else. Heck, it can build quite a lot of the known universe as plenty of it is uninhabitable so doesnt need cities and custom landing zones etc.

It could save tons of time, make much more interesting locations that we probably couldnt get any closer to than we can with Crusader today, and instead we can go down and land there, creating mission events with them, instead of them being simply colourful spheres in the cold dark space.

Thats its Difference from other games.

I don't know about you but playing a lot of game i feel like they should be more immersive.

You fly around in your ship, do stuff..... for me i'm telling myself "i wish i could land this somewhere and get out, have a look at this ship that i own, walk around inside it, try out different station positions within it"
You can't, it only exists as a cockpit, what you own in just that. you don't have any real sense of ownership because the only view of it you get is the pilots chair.

As you know with this you can walk around it, you can get out and there it is; a proper ship, you can admire it in your own hanger, on the Ports landing pad, get in fly off somewhere, land it, get out and find that indeed you have taken your whole ship with you.

when you are flying around out there and see a planet, you think "wouldn't it be awesome if i could go there, fly upto it, into its atmosphere, find a city on the surface and land..." and do this on one seamless action.

You say that to a gaming buddy a couple of years ago and they would say that would be awesome, but impossible, it would never happen.

What this is is the game that you think should be made, tho accept can't be, because its not possible.... tho it would be awesome, right?

This is the game that i have always wanted someone to make but have always know was a fantasy.
And yet here it is, very incomplete at this point but its already proven in concept, it can be done and it works. hallelujah!

Its good to be a PC Gamer, and Chris you're my hero!

Is it worth trading in my AMD Mustang Omega? If so what would anyone recommend. It's worth $55.

Did you get SQ 42 with yours? some did some didn't. if yes? upgrade only, if you melt it you may lose SQ42, i don't know.

If the Mustang Omega is the only ship you have then yes its worth swapping for something else as its only really a racer with guns,

Not the Gamma, the Avenger is only $5 more, or the 300i for the same price.

Personally i'm keeping mine, i just bought another ship, the Aurora LN is a good starter at £27

Same package both SC and 42.

I have not tried racing at all, only tried swarm twice, once was this morning, too many games...... :D

But just polished off Witcher 3 and DLC so intend giving this a bit of time.

Yeah, then don't melt it, upgrade or get another ship.

You can try-out most of the ships by earning REC in Arena Commander > Spectrum Match, then Coop Vanduul Swarm, Battle Royal, Racing.... spend what you earn here https://robertsspaceindustries.com/electronic-access

Its a good way to (try before you buy)

If you're interested in this game i think its worth learning about it now, practising your flight skills, learning about how to take-off and land properly, select destinations and go there, learning how to use engine boost and afterburners to your advantage, what gun setups work for you.

It looks complicated and daunting, or at least it did to me when i started, but plenty of learning and practice you become a master at it, and that feels good.

I see a lot of people at Crusador with this free week thing not knowing what is going on and then not be able to do anything or go anywhere.

The best thing you can do once there is press F12, that will bring up a chatbox, to type in it press return.
If you have questions ask.... you won't always get a reply but a lot of people are helpful.

Cheers for the advice.

Need to get the X52 mapping sorted so it's like my Elite one.

Could not stand thy way Yaw and Roll was set up, that was the first thing I changed.

NEVER EVER MELT THE MUSTANG OMEGA!!!
Guys, its worth $0 melt value, dont forget that.

The ship is equal to a $55 ship, but its melt is still $0. If you upgraded to the Avenger ($5 i think) then the melt value of the whole thing becomes $5 because thats the cash amount applied to it.

Fortunately nothing has happened, but it needs mentioning for anyone with one. Also, even with the unmelt/buyback feature, if you melt it, you cannot get it back. Something to do with AMD apparently, a few people have been stung by melting and then found they cant get the ship back. Presumably trying to strip the upgrades to get the credit back and return to the original ship.

On that note, apparently downgrades arent too far away from being completed, i'd expect it in the next 2 months, that sort of timeframe, cos Turbulent do seem to get a fair handful of work from CIG.

It has no value, melting it is pointless.

If you melt it, you've lost nothing as you invested nothing in getting it.

It says in big letters this will give you $0 in store credits and this action is permanent and cannot be undone.

But people be smashing their foreheads into the keyboard and screaming they " dint'mean to hurt nobody" regardless of what crazy words the magic machine says.

Holy cow your right, its worth nothing melted..

I think if you have an attachment to it but want to use it to try other ships without spending much? don't, just in case there ends up a downgrade problem with it too...
Just keep it and get another ship that you can gradually build on.

Mind you that can spiral out of control, i went: Aurora LN > Avenger > 325A
Now i find myself attached to the 325A, but i want a Freelancer, i don't want to spend £85 (at least not in one go), i have £55 tied up in the 325A but can't bear to part with it :o

So..... i'm going to buy another £30 and gradually build that into a Freelancer.

I want a Hornet too, and a Constellation.....

You sound like you've had a sniff of a shandy and need to have a sit down.

The message you're referring to has been there for years, it's been warning people its their alpha package long after passes were done away with, and it's still telling you the following right now, this is my P72 ccu'd to a Vanguard:
You are about to reclaim your Standalone Ship - Kruger P-72 Archimedes - LTI pledge. This will delete the pledge from your account and give you $250.00 USD in store credits.

WARNING!
This action is PERMANENT and cannot be undone.

Purchases made using store credits are account bound and non giftable.

We know that warning is blatantly untrue, because we can unmelt it, so it isnt permanent as it CAN be undone.

People have been screwed by inaccuracies, the website has been selling AC pass + MR's for $45 when the passes are long gone. MR SQ42 packages for $45 when every package they've sold has SQ42. To believe this is yet another inaccuracy by CIG is hardly an unreasonable assumption to make.

As for it having no value, it has whatever value something means to the owner. Tons of things have no cash value but have a value to the owner, and in this case its going to save them at least $45+ towards the game, especially if they had it but melted it for $0 and now have to spend $45+ to get back in again.

We're Reddits sloppy second ;)

I really hope Vulkan makes dual-GPU solutions less of the PITA that it usually is. Cant see myself going down that route, although wasnt it said that DX12 would let us run completely different cards and still utilise them fully, so you could have cards from different generations or even different manufactures and they'd still work?
I can imagine if you can throw in different cards and see benefits, then plenty of us have stuff sitting around even if its only a 10-20% boost it'd be better than nothing.

FTFY :p

Is he looking? :D

 Talk of mutiny all ready ....

Don't let imp be the get away pilot :D
