******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Must admit, I really like what I've been playing. The community is really friendly also! Inviting me along in their bigger ships, taking me for gunner duty etc.

I enjoy just travelling out to Yele and going through the asteroid field. Don't understand the whole EA (electronic access? accessed via main menu).

Do they have somewhere on the website with a timeline for when they hope to achieve certain aspects of the game?

They tend to avoid deadlines now as they've been burned before for missing suggested timescales. Chris Roberts has said a few times Squadron 42 will be out this year, personally I'm doubtful and if it does it'll only be the first part of it.

EA is essentially meant to be a little game-in-game simulator, if you go into the hangar you'll see a white pod, go in it and you're in "EA" just as you would via the main menu. Arena Commander - Spectrum match allows you to fight against other players in an arena for REC which is an EA currency you can use to rent equipment for EA ships, although apparently you can also add them to your ship in the PU :)

Vanduul swarm is versus AI opponents, but can be played coop with friends.

There's also vs racing mode and free flight, where you literally just fly around an arena doing what you want, there's a coop option here too and it's typically far more stable and smoother than the PU but with very little to do as there's no missions or stations, you can't use a jump drive etc.

Anybody have any tips for Battle Royale? Flying a Super Hornet but can't seem to score many kills at all. Can hardly bring the shields down on Sabres for instance even if I'm pummelling them for a good 30 seconds. Any weapons/ components I should be eyeing with my REC?

Sabre has a huge advantage in Battle Royale and in general due to those insane shields, personally I wouldn't bother with it and do racing or coop vanduul swarm instead.

Thanks Hallfmad.

I'm a little surprised the development progress being slow. Saying that, I can't wait to try out 3.0! The amount of money generated for this game is just staggering. Not sure why he wouldn't just deliver the original game and used the extra money to keep adding to the game with updates.

I was looking at the star map online and I came across SOL. Do we really get to visit Earth?

I don't think that would be viable or possible. With the amount of work they are doing I don't think they would be able to just add it on to the original vision of the game.

Spacedeck we'll be able to visit Earth but I think they'll focus on main areas/ports you can land at, at least that was the last I heard. 4 or 5 main city port areas, I doubt they'll do much with the rest of it.

All the major planets like Earth and Terra, it seems hard to believe we'll be able to enter its atmosphere and land wherever we please, they cant possibly deliver Earth for example. We know Earth will have at least 4 landing locations, New York, Shanghai, Moscow, and years back they said there'd be a 4th but we've never had it confirmed as to where that'd be. I'd imagine it'll be European, somewhere iconic, and personally i think Paris would be the easiest, keep the Eiffel tower and modernise the rest. NYC will be obvious just doing landing approach, Paris would have the tower. London doesnt have anything huge, its got plenty of sights to see, but they're not going to recreate large parts of cities and their landmarks for the landing zones.
Outside of the 4 landing areas, i think they'll have to be off-limits. The lesser inhabited planets will be accessible though, whether that includes places like ArcCorp far away from their built up areas, i dunno.

I bought the UEE Explorer pack last night, was able to hold onto a Sabre for funsies too, i'd forgot to account for some $20 CCU's i'd stockpiled, so it'll mean that after CCUing the Terrapin to an Orion, i'll still have $70 available, not $5 as expected. I was sure it was more like $50, i'd only counted the melt value of standalone ships. It means i can upgrade the Dragonfly or Delta to something later on. Turning the Delta into a Prospector, for example (would need to melt a $5 flair item).

Also, on the off chance that anyone else is signing up for an account to buy a package, im 1 referral away from getting the buggy & fish tank, its been taunting me at 4 referrals for at least 4 months now, and im too tight to buy either of them :D
** Absolutely no referral links - EVH **

Of course, then i'll have to buy fish

In a world where im buying digital space ships, im drawing a line at digital fishtanks!
In fact, if theres no referral by the end of next week.... im buying the fish and letting them flap about on the hangar floor!:eek::eek:

Yeah, although the referral fishtank is slightly different, 'v2', not sure why it isnt sold - unless all the old ones are updated to v2 anyway perhaps? However im too cheap, i wont allow myself to spend those UEC on stuff like that, not sure why cos its the same currency i'd be spending in the PU to buy a fishtank then etc :D Its like im holding off in case they add something awesome and expensive, like a giant fishtank or a hangar room module, and i'll have spent 20,000 UEC on tat and be unable to buy something even cooler.

I would be interested to see if they can get full sized procedural planets into the game...

Of the procedural planets demoed so far.

Pupil To Planted: 1,000 KM Diameter.
Delamar: 2,000 KM Diameter.

Comparison: Sol Rocky Planets.

Earth: 12.700 KM Diameter.
Venus: 12.100 KM Diameter.
Mars: 6.800 KM Diameter.
Earth's Moon: 3.500 KM Diameter.
Pluto: 2.400 KM Diameter.

Delamar @ 2,000 KM is not that far off our Moon, certainly Pluto, earth and Venus are the biggest @ 6 times the size of Delamar, Rocky planets in the universe don't actually get much bigger than Earth.

Im sure they've said that all the planets would be scaled down, just as the distances between them would be. Having them 1:1 scale planets without being 1:1 distances would probably seem worse, whereas having both at say 1:4 means they feel right and you'd never know the scale wasnt right because they'd still look absolutely huge especially the closer you got to it.
Im pretty sure 1/4 size was the plan a good while back, though completely flexible till they knew for sure.

I suppose the distance between planets 1:1 would be vast, shrink that down to 1:4 with full sized planets Mars from Earth would look like a Red Moon in earth's sky.

And yeah, the approach to Delamar looked like a full sized planet, all be it a small one, you couldn't see the curvature from the surface, the approach to a 3,000 KM Earth probably would look about right.

@ Spacedeck, speaking of multi-crewing ships, have you been in the Starfere yet? ask in game if someone has one and needs a crew, the thing is so big you will get lost in it.

Without having to scroll through 500 pages of this, would someone be able to give me a very basic idea of what the games about and how it compares to similar games.
Iv watched a few videos of it, including the live update, but just want to get a users review before I part with £50!

yeah to be honest Manners14 - I tried the free-play weekend and I couldn't find much to do - but I was obviously missing something

the multi-player terrible frame rates put me off too - can't stand sub 30 fps

This should be improved as more patches roll out.

In general, don't go into SC expecting a well polished game, or even a big game at that. Currently you can't really do much in the grand scheme of things. What you can do will probably burn you out if you play it too much also. Wait until 3.0 drops if you're unsure. When that drops much more content will be added and you actually be able to land on a planet!

Yes, CR stated at Gamescom that the planets are 15-25% actual size for fun/gameplay reasons. The distance between moons/planets is 10% of what it should be for same reason.

Yeah I understand it won't be perfect yet, I'd be very willing to invest in it from what iv seen. I'm just noy sure how it will play.
If its going to be like destiny meets halo meets no mans sly/subnautica... I would love it.
But if its more of a simulator eg. Arma in space. Then its definitely not for me.

It's definitely not like ARMA, it doesn't go that far on the simulator spectrum. If you're still uncertain then I would say don't back it, wait for a free fly weekend to try it, or maybe wait until 3.0 is actually out.

teamspeak: pagan-sc.enjinvoice.com at 9pm if you are playing SC folks just hop in the Star citizen room and get shooting, well not shooting, talking would probably be better..
