******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

You know you could have backed SC for less, right? Well, that reason you didnt, and opted to pay more, thats the same reason others paid more.

Same reason - different amount.

I backed SC for a fairly moderate sum during the kickstarter. I genuinely don't understand people paying $100's for additional ships unless I'm missing something quite fundamental.

I also backed Elite : Dangerous which I've put well over a 1000 hours into, so I've got more than my moneys worth. I'm just glad that space sims have made a come back.

It's easy to forget that Elite did a very similar thing, I backed it during Kickstarter and get a free upgraded Cobra MKIII anytime I fancy starting a new guy.

Some people just want a game to be made without publishers rushing it out, that's all. I know two people who have put in over £50,000 but as both are exceptionally rich, massive gaming fans I don't see the problem. It's all about perspective.

I know plenty of people who think I'm mad for having the gaming setup that I have, but they'll gladly spend £50 grand on a car when I'd never spend more than 10K..

Likewise I put in over £100 into Elite at kickstarter, played it for around 150 hours, that's pretty good value for money at less than £1/hour for entertainment. I've already had over 700 hours out of Star Citizen..

I'm only interested in SQ42 for single player. Is there any point in pledging on their site just for this? Would you get a ship to meddle about with, or do you have to pledge to SC for that.

I also backed Elite kickstart, pretty sure I got money's worth but got pretty tired of it and haven't flown out in a long time. I think the campaign in SQ42 might have some potential.

You wouldn't really be able to do anything just now as the active testing is all on Star Citizen rather than SQ42. Since most of the SQ42 assets will be in the Star Citizen universe they're making and testing them there etc.

Might as well wait if you're only interested in the single player campaign tbh.

If you're not interested in the MMO side, just the single player campaign, you do still get access to the 'Electronic Access' part of the game. It has 2 smallish flyable areas/arenas for flight combat with other players, a mode Vs waves of AI, free-fly so you can just get familiar with the controls and have a nosy, and a racing map with iirc 3 layouts. I'd also assume that as Star Marine is also an 'Electronic Access' module it'd be available too in 2.6, so thats an FPS.

Maybe someone else can explain it better, but this 'Electronic Access' stuff is supposed to be a bit like a training module within the games universe. A sim within a sim.
So IRL if you get shot you die, in BF/COD etc you get shot you respawn and minor repercussions.
In the SC universe, if your characters get shot you may die or may be savable, but in Electronic Access its all a sport, a game just like BF.
So CIG let us do more arcade-like gameplay with arena combat and a scoreboard as a training area, so we can do stuff in there and learn things, and then go out into the universe (MMO or SP) and use that information in a 'life-threatening' environment.

Hope that explains the function & purpose of that without being too confusing.

So in terms of what you'd get for backing at the moment:
SC = MMO (Multiplayer Universe we have now), Electronic Access (Flight combat, FPS, Racing), Hangar to look at the ship.
SQ = Single Player, Electronic Access, and Hangar.

So the area which is currently a poor mans MMO, its what you'd lose access to thats out or coming soon.

Might have missed my post with it happening at the same time.

Halfmad - there's still Electronic Access available isnt there? I thought originally it wasnt included, but they realised there wasnt anything there for the SQ42-only peeps and that really those modules are as instrumental and relevant to the campaign as they are the PU, and added them too.

Okay, i checked and yeah thats been added back to those backers:

Squadron 42 is currently in development. On release, it will be available for download to all who purchase this package. The Arena Commander dogfighting module can be accessed immediately and will be continually updated as Star Citizen is developed.

Hi all.

I saw on the first post that there is a selection of guilds i could join and i was wondering which one everyone is on from here(main OCUK one) as i want to team up with some of you to show me the ropes?

my game handler is pinoy_soldier and if anyone is free this evening to team up and show me the ropes, i will be available from 9pm

Don't need to join bud but most Fridays at 9pm on the pagan TS server (in sig) there will be people on larking about. Occasionally during the week too, I might be on this evening, depends if/when my daughter gets herself to sleep lol

We'll probably move to discord on the OCUK channel in the next few months though.

I'll add you on the RSI site so I see you in game, you can do that on the RSI site by going here, clicking on "my rsi" and on the left, in faint writing is the "contacts" tab, then add citizen - just copy/paste in peoples handles. Mine is Raumarik

You can obviously do it in game too, I'm just lazy and like to paste stuff in..

Alternatively you can go to their profile page e.g. https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/profile/pinoy_soldier click on dossier and click the follow button on the top right. The profile changes according to in game handle which is handy e.g.

etc

I must come along one evening and say hi :)

Are there any regular Elite Dangerous players on there as well?

It's a mixed bag mate, many of us played it but lost interest, I still like Elite but never really get a chance to play it. I'm either playing Star citizen or editing videos of star citizen lol

Ok so I seem to be very late to the party in discovering this game. Initially I am VERY intrigued and VERY impressed.

However there are a few questions I have regarding the gameplay of this that I hope some of you guys could answer for me.

1. Currently what can you do in the game? I know they're releasing it in stages (sort of) and was wondering what is playable/doable in its current version

- TLDR; is it worth getting yet?

2. I have seen from the latest 3.0 trailer on YouTube from GamesCom that you effectively rent a room at a 'city' on a planet and that is where you respawn if you die. But what happens to your ship (if its blown up along with yourself) - please dont tell me you have to buy another?

3. how many people and planets per server? is it going to be easy to stay out of sight if you wanted too or are you always going to have someone on your tail.

4. I've found a ship that I've fallen in love with 'Constellation Andromeda' however it is very pricey at £215. If I were to play with a group of mates, would they all need to buy this ship so we can play together? or is there some sort of joint ownership where we can all pay an equal share of the ship and buy it together??

5. Will my 780 cope at 1080p?

Currently you can play arena commander to practice flying skills, go to Arccorp to walk around in the city, or start up Ctusader which is the most "game looking" module. You spawn on a space station, you can run around, jump in your ship, do some missions, fight pirate ship, theres another space sration to battle other players in FPS mode.
The planets coming in the 3.0 patch somewhere arond years end.

If your ship blows up you can just call it in again without a problem as of yet (alpha testing).
In the final game you can pay insurance on it (with ingame money ofc), and if it blows up you will get a new one, but without any mods or cargo which you had. Just the bare ship. The insurance will be just a small sum. If you don't have insurance you need to buy a new one...but you can buy every ship with ingame currency after game release. You don't need to buy any more ships for real money after your starter package.

Currently only a few people (24) per instance, but this is just for testing they just working on the final netcode which will come in 3.0 as well.

You can't have a joint membership on a ship, but if one man has the ship the others just get in and fly it together.
As i said all ships will be buyable in game, so all of you can start with the cheapest package, and earn money ingame to buy a more expensive ship.

The 780 will be fine, at its current state the netcode is limiting FPS, so everyone gets around 30-40 FPS. This will be sorted on 3.0 again with the new netcode.

All in all, the game is playable now, has some misdions, you can fly your ship, get out from it and float in space, fight in FPS mode etc, but the real fun start with 3.0.
That patchs will include the planets(planetary landings), expanded solar system, basic professions, more missions, new netcode etc.
To be able to play you only need the smallest package.
