I got some melt for a bargain price a few days ago. I thought I would have a bit of a play with my fleet, and now I'm $15 away from the following
BMM package
Freelancer DUR package
Prospector standalone
Aurora MR starter (to sell/give to friend)

Its not as bad as it seams, as I made a bomb on a load of omega packages that I held onto for a while, and the standalone ship is from a referral gladius, but even so....
I'll put the $15 in, them im out lol

Yeah I sold one for just over $100 a couple weeks ago, and I still have 1 left to to be honest with the exchange rates as they are, if I did the maths it might well be that I havnt spent much at all. Though I would rather not do the maths and just assume that's the case lol
If you're unsure wait for a free flight weekend, that way you'll get to test what little there is of it so far before spending money, the next free flight might be in a few weeks.

You could wait until release or wait for the regular free play sessions
OR, buy the cheapest star citizen + sq42 package if your 100% sure you want the game, you can always upgrade the ship later if u want to.

Get the cheapest package with the single player game too (squadron 42) I bought it in December. There's not a lot to do as yet, but you do get a sample of what's it is going to be like, I don't bother with it as yet, it's not even installed, but I'm very VERY excited for 3.0 it's going to be incredible. I bought it now to purely save a few quid in the long run

Very true,
3.0 is going to be the "big" patch of the alpha in most of our eyes. It's going to be the first chunk of what we can expect to see in the final game. I would describe what we currently have as technical preview/core mechanics.

Great news regarding 2.6.1
Still a bit of UI and stability to work on but it's on schedule for release. But because of how far ahead they are they are bringing regional servers to 2.6.1 instead of .2 Roll on 16th Feb as arena commander stuff should now be so much more pleasant/playable especially with the new servers & mega map.
Next concept ship is the anvil hurricane ( supposed to be a heavy fighter but could be changed ) The art and animation style for the p52 undocking/docking with the connie is done but they need item 2.0 in to get it finished and working.
