After watching the live stream last night i have a some thoughts, scratch that a lot of thoughts.
The staff that were doing the presentation were very annoying/cringy and awkward with the communication.
They were talking over each other and sometimes talking over Chris. I don't understand as this is suppose to be rehearsed right?
I understand what they were trying to do but the conversation they were having didn't feel natural at all.
I aren't 100% if it was scripted or not i'm going to guess not as the conversation didn't sound natural so i'll give a example.
They were trying to act "Tactical" when they got to the Caterpillar crash site and after he picks up the cargo.
He ask's "Do you want to take point" she responds with "I'll let you lead" and he yells "I'VE GOT NO GUN" and she still makes him take point.
Like i don't even know i think it that were me i'd probably of just dropped the cargo and shot her in the face at this point.
I felt super bad that the crash happened because i'd just like one of these live stream presentations go smooth with no problems.
But that's the problem with the game being in Alpha especially a game of this magnitude bugs should be and were expected.
The tech with the face was pretty cool but i'd like to see that feature be put in the game later down the line like a few years from now.
As that should maybe be one of the things they should be implementing when the game is almost finished.
Instead it just seems like implementing it in a few patches from now is just wasted resources that could have gone towards more bug fixes etc.
Apart from that it was actually pretty decent, not one of the strongest showings i've seen from them but it was good.
I was happy to see the progress of planets from last years presentation, i'm still always in disbelief when i see people parking vehicles in ships.
Then when they landed on the other planet and got the Ursa Rover out after scavenging the wreckage for the mission.
Carrying the cargo physically into the vehicle was cool that's what i wish a game like ED had.
I thought it was pretty great to see the railgun take out the ships when they were under attack after opening the rear door to the rover.
Apart from the minor issue of driving up the Idris ramp i was very excited to see it in game and that battle they had in space was fantastic.
I really enjoyed watching the Idris vs idris fight and the communications between the two ships captains was cool before opening fire.
Then the front and rear of the ship opened in space when they engaged and the gladius came out i was so hyped!
Overall i'd give the presentation a 5/10 personally, I liked what they had to show and i can come away happy with the progress that's been made.
It's just if i was in control of the presentation i would have never had the staff talking except when they were demonstrating the voip part.
If i had to have anyone speaking during the presentation i'd prefer to have just Chris giving a play by play commentary of what we are seeing.
The conversations the staff were having when presenting the game ruined it for me and i for one would like to see a play through with Zero commentary.
I understand what they were trying to accomplish but i don't know about you guys but when i'm playing a game i don't sound anything like that.
On to citizencon! here's to hoping to see a glimpse of SQ42 as the last time i saw gameplay i was actually attending Citizencon in Manchester!
