******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

It's one of those first phase of ships (like the hornet IMHO) which looks out of place now due to the improvements they've made. Glad it's getting a do-over tbh.

It's meant to be fragile though I doubt it'll get much of a boost in armour terms but might for shield.

Just played VS with the Glaive since it got a buff - actually had two instances of not insta-dying for a change, one my engines was wiped out and on the second death everything was knocked offline (I was a floating, defenceless chunk of metal) was actually pretty good fun :) I'd still trade some armour for less drift though, this is one ship I feel like it takes me 10 minutes to get use again before I can really fly it, bit strange since it's got tons of manoeuvring thrusters.

Humbug I think you're underselling the Gladius a bit - it is agile and you've forgotten entirely about missiles, which it has twice the payload of even if they are smaller than the 325A. I don't own either ship btw, I'm not fussed either way but it's no where near as clear cut in terms of one better than the other IMHO. The guy who gets the jump in either ship is likely to win as neither is exactly a bruiser. Remember both ships are likely to change stat wise, which is why I personally tend to ignore them and look at the role the ship is intended to fill, in this case the 325A being multi-role capable is clearly a better all-round ship.

I did have a 325A in the past, I'm just waiting to see if they upgrade it properly and start messing with the flight stats or if it's left alone - which I'd be fairly happy with.

They also don't have the armor system working and weapon types (meaning damage types) is likely causing issues when calculating damage weapons are doing.

Yeah it's in the XML but that's only the start of it

We were in AC last night ( couldn't get into Crusader - always full) and had a mess around. I had tons of problems with the rented vanguard, couldnt' get through doors etc Then I did this..

Then we did Vanduul swarm at the first attempt with a connie, glaive and avenger.

I'd link the vids but I'm sure someone will have sworn during them so best not :D

Playing VS coop with a couple of org mates earlier and missile behaviour just seems odd at times, like them missing their intended targets and coming after allies.. :D

After many months of sitting on the fence I decided to take the plunge and back the game, I just got the Mustang Alpha package for now but after a couple of hours playing around last night I was quite impressed, even at this stage in development at 1440p it looks great and ran much better than I thought it would.

I was also surprised at how well the ship handled with a mouse + keyboard, felt very natural and while I'd like to try it with a stick I can't see it being an issue if I don't get one right away.

Now to think about what I may want to do in the PU when the time comes, I was a pretty unscrupulous pirate in EvE but I don't want to go down that route in SC. Exploration in a properly fleshed out universe sounds very appealing so a 315i or if money allows a freelancer?

Although... the Vanguard is calling to me, the Mrs's can go without flowers this valentine's day can't she?!

Vanguard is nice but no cargo hold, no idea why as it's flippin big for a fighter and clearly has space inside that could be used even if it was a token amount.

Honestly if I were you I'd just wait until the PU and work up to a larger ship, or steal one :p

Only problem I have with mouse/keyboard is fine control, I don't know why I just feel less in control than I do with a throttle/stick, could just be habit though.

Remember you can mine/salvage with smaller ships by fitting the appropriate equipment to them - but you need a cargo hold too.

I thought the 300 series was meant to be the small luxury ship, or perhaps that's changed now. Personally I'm quite excited about the remodel, they fly pretty well and I love the idea of them - just wasn't keen on the actual internals of the model.

I don't see it as necessary tbh, Crusader is a testing ground - that needs to include griefing to a degree. Only way you can learn from it is to have it happen in-game.

I'd rather it was done now than later on!

The Vanguard is a long range fighter/bomber.

You will be able to travel beyond the range of standard fighters and fight/explore and log out safely in space because all the variants have a habitat unit in them, so the ship will despawn and then return to the same spot when you log back in.

In a single seat fighter, or a ship without a bed, the AI will attempt to pilot your ship to the nearest docking facility while you are off line. Which means if it gets jumped on its way back, you lose your insurance excess of its destroyed.
Plus your travel time out there.

So all these Hornets, Sabres, Gladius etc, are going to be limited by how far they can travel before you have to log off to sleep (or your friend takes over).

Leaving a ship in space is not safe.. :D

Had bags of fun tonight, always annoying when you exit and shadowplay has screwed up 2 mins into a 40 minute session though lol

We seem to be getting pretty good at running through Vanduul Swarm in coop now, I really enjoyed playing a Mustang Alpha, very nippy little ship!

The grey market only exists because CIG tolerate it, they could shut it down in a couple of hours if they wanted to or make it so difficult to do that nobody would bother.

1. Remove gifting on unmelted ships/packages.
2. Lock e-mail accounts to accounts unless the person contacts CIG requesting it be changed.
3. Suspend accounts where the payment details change from one person to another until it's explained to customer services.
4. unmelt tokens for limited/physical packages create a ship/package that can't be gifted in any way (even by paying cash rather than credit). There's no way on earth CIG will do this though and it further bolsters the grey market.

The grey market was on it's knees until recently but the unmelt option sparked it back into life, it fills a need that CIG themselves create by having "sales" which aren't really sales, by making things desirable, then changing the terms and conditions for those who bought them - original/veteran backers were originally given LTI as a "thanks", it was exclusive to them, then it gradually opened up. There's several examples of CIG bending to the will of the community over gifts and exclusive items, all in the name of cash. Problem is when they do it they throw a bone to the grey market, that is if you see the grey market as a problem.

Personally I've made a lot of money off the grey market and I know several people who only have certain ships because of it, but what amazes me is when people assume CIG is against it in some way. CIGs own support staff occasionally comment in threads in the grey market subreddit (Ben did one just yesterday), that shows at least tolerance but honestly I wouldn't be surprised if CIGs own staff weren't dabbling in it.

Took the Mustang Alpha out in VS last night with Pete and Imp, was surprised that it was so good, I ended up with a better over all score than my Glaive after wave 18 lol. I'm not saying it'd be good in pvp especially 1v1 but it's ideal for getting behind scythes and glaives and with a couple of additional size 1 cannons it's surprisingly effective at mowing them down.

Thing is Paul CIG could prevent unmelt being a problem by simply stop them being giftable packages and ships. Job done.

CIG are choosing to allow it, why? I've honestly no idea but it's likely a commercial decision.

I'm happy with that, most people only have one or two ships that they want to unmelt which they can't. Isn't it only for physical/limited ships which can't be bought normally e.g. scythe, Constellation physical packs?

Yeah Ben is king of vague, no doubt it'll all change before it comes in anyway and shortly afterwards too.

Depends how you look at it, CIG arguably did benefit by having GM sellers flogging ships back at the peak of the community obsession with LTI. Many of the GM sellers at the time went on to spend that money back into the game as new LTI ships came out. Yes they take a cut but I'm not convinced that back then as many ships would have been sold without the GM, in many ways the LTI obsession stokes the GM who responded by throwing money into any future LTI sales. When the cheaper LTI ships started coming out the GM died down a lot, only to be given a boost with the unmelt systems.

I don't see it as lost revenue for CIG, I do however think it's a shame that some will have been paying over the odds over something like LTI, which is going to be such an utterly meaningless running cost for most ships in-game later on.

We'll never know if the premium people were willing to pay for LTI on the GM would ever have gone into the game though.

Right now there's still some silly priced ships but if after 3 + years people haven't figured out that most ships come on the website for sale at least once a year then frankly they need their heads checked.

Had some fantastic fun tonight in Olisar with Pete and Imp, shame we can't get a big OCUK bunch in one instance.. it'll happen eventually :)

top tip if you want to steal someones avenger, jump in their bed, they walk right past you when they go to eva.. allegedly.

Saturday night, probably around 9pm we'll be on teamspeak usually, there might be a couple of them on tonight (I'm out playing poker) lol.

Getting everyone in an Olisar instance is an absolute pain though so although we did that for a few hours last night it's unlikely to happen on Saturday as the servers will be rammed.

Yeah but you need to use Skype :p

Joking aside we've so many games etc we play it'd be impractical to use, I jump between rooms to chat to people playing different games but typically they'll want to stay out of each others rooms to avoid confusing. 6+ is fine if people are use to teamspeak, in other words no open mics and people only talking when it's something useful.

Anyone got a cheap base package inc game they can sell. Got a friend who wants in but is a bit tight for cash

Decisions, decisions. Do I slap you now or wait until you come on TS :p

Drop me a PM or get me on TS at some point mate. I've a couple but upgraded one to an LN (for testing purposes lol)

Might have buybacks as an option too if they are giftable, haven't really been keeping track of that side since I stopped selling on the GM.
