******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I didn't back Star Citizen to test Star Citizen Alphas. I backed Star Citizen to play Star Citizen.

The qualifier for when Star Citizen (the space MMO) becomes playable is very simple....it's day zero of the persistent world, when the last ever wipe and reset happens and people start actually being able to do everything that has been promised.

Do people not want to play games anymore? Am I just getting old?

That is fine but that is not the same as a tech demo at all. So I will leave it there as you don't seem to understand what Tech demos are.

Persistence had been in for a while but it's still alpha and wipes are frequent.

Also as a fan of kingdom come bugs and all the fact anyone compares them is amusing as hell. They couldn't be more different but keep on trolling.

Are you telling me you haven't logged in to see whats actually there before complaining there isn't a game?

Star Citizen is an MMO. Until the day the persistent world goes day zero, no more wipes, you're testing, not playing. I don't test games in my free time.

I refunded my account last year because the likelihood of Star Citizen ever reaching a point where you can play the game became too small to warrant the outlay.

If you're happy testing games in your free time you're getting your money's worth I suppose.

Warrant the outlay? its $54 (£38) if you gave up on it why are you still here moaning? have you actually washed your hands of it or can you not resist coming back here?

So what's there to actually do in this game? A mate bought me the Mustang pack but are there any actual activities?

That's hard to explain given everyone has a different idea about whats "Worth it" it has activities, more coming in 3.1 but is it enough for you? only you can know that, you have it, try it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Last time I actually spent a bit of time looking at this the game consisted of a ship and hangar. That was it. Just don't want to go in to it to find it's little more than a tech demo.

Uh-huh.

Well I keep coming back every now and then to see if Star Citizen is any closer to release and any less full of bugs....and just find people repeating their Kool Aid justifications for the thing never being released. Foot IK...jeez no one's ever done that before.

In case you were wondering, there's been a very specific job advertised which suggest EA are going to milk Star Wars again.

I was in for 280-odd EUR, as I really liked the pitch and wanted to play the game they were describing. Despite having lost faith in the game I come back occasionally to see if we are any closer to having that playable game. It's disappointing to come back and see no sign of a release date (of SQ42 episode 1, let alone SC) and people justifying the dismal rate of progress towards an actual release with fluff about little cosmetic flourishes and shiny distractions.

But it seems plenty of people are happy just being alpha testers for years, and if that's the case there's no incentive or CiG to ever release the game.

Its probably best described as 'Custom in House' with a Cryengine foundation, there isn't much left of Cryengine, the mechanics of the visuals, lighting, shading, render.... but all of the infrastructure is custom.

Thanks.

Yep and? Still zero point in comparison. They are not close to one another other than they started with same base engine and they shared some tech on the cloth system and some performance updates between them. There is nothing you are adding to this discussion to bring this up constantly.

Just fired it up for the first time, runs absolutely awful. I'm running a 2500k at stock clocks, 8gb ram, R9 290 4gb. Even with everything turned down and all the bells and whistles off, it runs like absolute dog poo. A mate of mine has an old GTX770 2gb which runs it fine at 1080p so what's the deal? Am I missing something?

You're pretty under speced. Are you running around olisar where its notoriously poor performance due to being the starter zone?

I think so, yes. I was hoping that this game would reignite my love for PC gaming but it's not looking good. Will give Stellaris a go tomorrow.

I backed for the cheapest package and haven't really tried any of it. Don't begrudge it at all. After all, how can I miss something I've not played? It's not hurting me by it not being out.

They seem to be aiming for something pretty revolutionary in scope. If they succeed, and it's a big if, then the wait will be worth it. All these cosmetic flourishes etc could combine to form the best most engrossing game we ever played.

Or they could rush out some bang average game we'll be bored of after 2 months because they're beholden to some folks who want an arbitrary release date set in stone regardless of the state of the game.

I'd much rather developers took their sweet time getting something just right, working on a labour of love rather than having to comply with some publisher execs worried about the bottom line.

There's got to be a middle ground though. If they finally release it in say 10 years, then it's not going to be revolutionary, it's just going to be another game with outdated graphics and features which have been done a thousand times before.
