******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

How many games have been imagined, developed, sold and archived during the life of SC.
They can't really finish it though as they'll all lose their jobs which they obviously enjoy.
I am not looking forward to this any more.
Andi.

How long have people been saying 'next year' and 'soon'? They really should be pushing to get S42 out and if this is successful it'll drive more interest in the online side of things.

many many years :D

I do believe it will be released i just don't know when or if it will still be revolutionary by then.

Yeah. When all this was being shown it looked revolutionary. Like Crysis was. But by the time it is out, it will be probably not look much better than other games. But the scope and what it will hopefully achieve will still be very impressive in that genre I think.

i give up, how many? and which ones?

Witcher 3 comes to mind.

Development for Witcher 3 started in 2011, the game was released in 2015.

Although the game was planned to begin production in 2008, CD Projekt Red's preoccupation with Rise of the White Wolf pushed it back to 2011. The company developed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt with a self-funded budget of US$81 million over three-and-a-half years.

Star Citizen development also started in 2011, with a much larger budget.

I think if you look at just about any game that was in development since 2011 it'll either have been released or scrapped by now.

I assume S42 was all plotted etc, because they did all [?] the mocap/celebrity bits, so is there any definitive list of what's holding it up? being single-player i'm assuming none of the online issues should affect it?

AI stuff is not done, most likely not all the systems are not done, OSC, etc. MP and SP goes hand in hand.

I'm not the biggest fan of CIG but comparing it's development time to some AAA games is daft. They don't have to build a studio from scratch, they generally recycle assets from their previous games and they simply don't push any boundaries when it comes to innovation.

7 years development is an exaggeration to say the least.

I'm sure we've discussed this at least a dozen times in the thread already to be honest. CIG have made numerous mistakes, learnt from some, not from others. I've no doubt they'll keep making them in the future but fingers crossed that actually put something out that's actually worth playing eventually because the current bodged together mess has very limited appeal.

Might make a decent benchmarking demo if 3DMARK bought it though..

That roadmap hahahahahahahahahahahahaha, I really hope these idiots get sued or go bust. Money grabbing waste of time. It's a shame as it will hurt genuine indie kickstarter groups, well it already has.

I actually don't want them to get sued, the star citizen dream is long over you'd have to be deluded to think that an actual finished product will ever be released. Eventually people will stop buying plots of pixels on moons that don't exist, imaginary ships and their countless variants and a universe based on endless feature creep demanded by creepy middle aged virgins.

But did anyone get conned ? , no , Chris Roberts if anything is a man with an incredible imagination and vision and i'm sure he really believes in what hes doing. Star Citizen is his child and a child that can do no wrong, one that he and his fans will endlessly defend right until the money dries up.

Like Peter Molyneux?

the likes of Rimworld are what early access and crowd funded games should be like, they have over delivered by comparison.

I suppose this makes Chris Roberts the chief creepy middle aged virgin? He’s in charge of the whole show, feature creep and all. I’ve been waiting for S42 for what feels like forever and the frustration has become too much, so I’ve given up waiting. Hopefully at some point in the next few decades I’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover that it has finally been released.

I get you , anticipation has become boredom and frustration. This thread is a good example of the state of things, once upon a time if you dared to scrutinise star citizen and its questionable development you'd be in deep do do, intelligent debate became impossible, now even the biggest of fans are 'meh' about the whole thing.

What people are finally realising is that most of the critics are let down fans, and i'm one of them and it's perfectly fine to call this out for what it is, i don't want this game to fail, and criticising it isn't going to make it fail, cig have done that all on their own.

Give it 6 months and the whole thing will start to unravel, they will run out of new backers and people will stop buying ships, at this point the cracks at cig will appear as the cash reserves will begin to dwindle, some of the studios will be closed and i imagine some kind of save star citizen campaign will be launched which will probably result in a period of life support for a few more months.
