******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

I'll take "What is CryEngine 3 and then Lumberyard?" for £27000 please.

Yep. They had everything already so the comparison with CDPR isn't a fair one. They were using CryEngine 3 and then a few years into development decided to switch to Amazon's Lumberyard:

And then you read things like this, which indicates that it did indeed delay the game :(

Id say its still a fair comparison....Cyberpunk uses the upgraded REDEngine they used from Witcher 3 and SC is using a modified CryEngine.

My comparison was on how long it takes to make such a large scoping game and the criticism SC gets for taking a long time, when other large games take just as long.

That's not to say they haven't made stupid mistakes costing money and time.

then why come on here and tell the people that are still interested your negative opinion that they dont care for?

probably because money's involved. it seems human nature, to a certain demographic, to be gleeful that people might lose money - and the bigger the amount they lose, the better. i honestly believer there wouldn't be half the trolling there is if this was a just an open unpaid-for project.

I've been negative on this game for years, but I'm slowly starting to warm to it. I'm almost tempted to buy a cheap ship in the next year or two.

Nothing wrong with being critical...in fact its important to hold them to account if the backers are funding the project.....BUT saying people are in a cult or the game is a scam/vapourware, just so you can come and say "told you so" if it did fail just isnt needed.

Not just when it comes to money, I find this human behavour on all kinds of forums I belong to its a strange one to me.

I genuinly think this game will be special when its done...whenever that may be :D

Its less about the money and more about the outrageous claims SC developers(mainly the bosses) and fans make with extreme delusions of grandeur. I have yet to see anything remotely fun let alone mindblowing from SC. The overzealous SC backers earned their cult nickname, it didn't come out of nowhere. There used to be a time when criticising SC would instigate a witch-hunt.

Remember many critics are very old and even original kickstarter backers.

Many of us are ex-backers and just disappointed with the way the project is being managed.

I truly hope something special comes out of it eventually, but their monetization model is so broken and shows no sign of changing so I've pretty much given up on it.

I find all the PR spin about how the game is so special and how they are doing things no-one has ever done before utterly nauseating. It's like Steve Jobs and his 'Magical' nonsense, which is where I guess the cult comparisons come from.

As I said...nothing wrong with critism...and I agree the way its managed isnt great and I dont agree with the huge cost of their ships.

And its not fun in its current state...but then niether is Cyberpunk 2077...as I cant play it yet....as its not ready.....so if we saw nothing till its ready, people would complain that they are being secretive.

Ive seen enough though to know its coming along....all be it slowly.

but how much have you spent on Cyberpunk? Did you spend money on a game that was to be released in 2014 and 4 years later still only have tech demos?

You know... I was going to reply... but people can't be this stupid surely?!

Plenty of trolls in this thread - It's boring now.

Nothing yet....but I will spend roughly the same...different finance model though, I put money into something I thought would be good....it takes time, so im waiting patiently.

Id only be annoyed if it failed, but nothing so far is showing me its failing....just taking a long time.

I don’t think it will fail. At the very least we will get Squadron 42 which would be fine by me.

Star Citizen probably won’t hit beta for another 2 years judging by what I have seen, but I am hoping they can finish Squadron 42 by end of next year. It will shut a load of mouths at least :D

Criticism ≠ trolling.

The point is, you can't compare cyberpunk with star citizen.
Also, it won't be free... you've already paid.

You can....I was comparing development time on both complex games, which is pretty similar....nothing more...also I wasn't commenting on people criticising it....I do so myself (current flight model is poor, buggy, poor FPS etc etc) ....its the cult, vapourware, scam people I take issue with.
