******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

All you guys playing this now..... Are you not worried about burnout before the game is even finished? IM itching to get in myself, I have not played it for maybe 18 months so am sure it will have improved since then, but am fighting the urge until no more account wipes (so maybe another 18months+)
Jump in, play until bored/a day or 2, leave it for a few months

Can anyone recommend a good package?

Just downloading the client
This one https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Nomad-Starter-Pack-IAE-2950-Warbond

Nomad imo looks ugly BUT its very very functional!

Good cargo size, bed log out and decent firepower

Another one is this if your budget stretches.

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Packages/Cutlass-Black

Cutty black has a bit more cargo space and has a bit more fire power. Also has a bed to log out on and can be a two man crew ship as the top turrets cant be manned by another player

Thanks for the advice.

Would this allow me to progress through the game and aquire new and better ships without having to spend more money?

I'm in the Elite fame of mind here

Cheers

Definetly.

Out of the two, if you can stretch to the cutty black. i would get that .

I know, £100 is still steep for any game, let alone a pre alpha but the cutty black is one of the best all rounder ships to get and can be your money maker until you get other ships that make you more money.

This is what the cutty can do:

  • Delivery box missions that earn you 8k per mission
  • Some cool pew pew bounty or mercenary misisons(varies from 2k to 8/9k

once you inquired enough for a "graycat roc" Buy that in-game(cant remember how much it is ) and load it inside your cutty black and now you have the ability to mine on surfaces!

A fully loaded ROC with "hedamite i believe it is" will yield you over 200k(but it takes a while to fully load one and also find different spots to mine them from)

Once you got your self a few million, you can treat yourself with whatever kind of ship you fancy.

every ship from the pledge tore(that says flyable) can be bought in-game now.

For reference i bought a vanguard warden for just shy over 2m and i love that ship!

Other ships that will open up more gameplay are:

  • Misc prospector(for more mining but asteriods or planetary surfaces
  • Caterpilla(For hauling large quantities of cargo)
The other ships are just more specific like the vanguard warden which is a heavy fighter(can do box missons on that too)

If you do enjoy the game and want some help, You can come join the Org i am in or find and join another that will help you out.

Playing this game solo is cool but playing with others increases this game by 10x and see that i assume you never played this and is new? Playing with experienced players will help you a lot.

Side note:

Because its alpha, Do expect all the ships and money owned to be wiped before release/beta. But that wont happen for anther 2-4 years anyway

Thanks for the detailed reply that is exactly what I was after. Hopefully I can have a play with your recommended ships.

Absolutley right. I have never play this but sunk 100's of hours into Elite to get and kit out my Imperial Cutter.

Thanks for the offer of help. I will see how I get on with the trial. The clients installed so hopefully will have a play later.

Many thanks again :)

Make sure you come back here for advice. It's a bit like elite at the start, you have no idea what's going on or how to do anything! Once you get going it's very different to elite but persevere. The game is bloody amazing even at this stage.

I'm intrigued by this game.

I'm a FPS man myself, but feel like I may enjoy this.

From the above comments, is there a free trial currently? That would be ideal.

Is this a genuine question, or are you just trying to be funny?

EDIT: Nope, just the same old thing from you.

No, it really is a genuine question. I'm interested in this game but I can't be bothered to follow the thread day to day as its been pretty endless. I have my doubts over the chances of it ever being properly released, but I'd love to play a finished product.

This. Despite being an Alpha and having missing features and plenty of hugely frustrating bugs, when things are right it's bloody amazing! Flying around with mates, whether for combat or just fun, has amazing looks and sounds and the flight model is really nice right now. I'm confident they'll finish the game eventually and at that point the scale of things you'll be able to do is immense. Just hoping they add some more missions for groups to do sooner rather than later!

Yes there is until the 2nd of December. Jump on as soon as possible as each day. A bunch of ships are free to try for 48h
Just to expand on this, you'll need to head to the Expo at New Babbage on Microtech to hire the ships, they aren't available without doing that. I'd highly recommend doing that anyway just to take in the view mind :D

I've been trying out a bunch of fighters this week to work out what I'm going to buy. I've saved up enough that I can afford a kitted out Vanguard or F7C, just need to make my final mind up. If it wasn't for regularly struggling to hit things consistently with the fixed weapons of the Vanguard it would probably be the top option, but after flying some of the smaller fighters I'm thinking I might take the fun of flying over the staying power the Vanguards have right now. Can always buy another ship after saving more :D The Arrow seems a lot of fun to fly and looks really nice, love how compact it is. But I need to try the Buccaneer later in the week as it looks like the firepower is impressive for the ship size.

The Buccaneer can pack a decent punch, but it's very fragile. I'd avoid.
F7C has the most fun potential loadout and isn't too bad durability wise, although obviously nowhere near as tough as a Vanguard.
Arrow is at it's best if you can lure people into atmosphere, where it will outmaneuver almost anything, as it will still do in space, but it's handling advantage can be negated other fighters being tougher and packing more heat. Guess it comes down to relative pilot skill.

For me, the Hornet wins the day with it's gimbal options if you're not comfortable with the Vanguard's fixed weapons.
