******Official Star Citizen / Squadron 42 Thread******

Its almost an 'outside looking in' shot of the Carrack, it nicely complements last weeks sneak peak:

Also, if you've not spotted, the flight seats are on overhead rails, so you'll strap in and then be pushed right out into an almost unobstructed view to gaze into. Should be a fantastic ship.

edit - Letter from the Chairman too: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/14283-Letter-From-The-Chairman

Notes from todays RtV livestream:

  • Healing beam in FPS (seen in ATV) – marine healing another marine’s knee (marine medics)

More likely single seater ships are easier to punt out as they don't need an external hangar area or multicrew working for AC lol

Glad to hear the Starfarer is coming along, very interested in that and the Caterpillar tbh.

Seems they've added a THIRD carrack interior shot, after posting the Letter post. It definitely wasnt there when the letter was first posted.

Thanks for the RTV summary Paul, I'm glad there will be cross chassis upgrades for the AMD Mustang I seem to have aquired 3 of them lol.

Carrack is looking pretty epic, gonna be tempted to melt my Connie Aquila again I think.

The Carrack looks so damn sexy.

I'm not going to pilot it - I'm going to command it.

See that seat right in the centre, the Captain's throne. I will be commanding my deep space expedition from there.

:p

All looks very expensive.
Yup, i think it'll be about $275 myself, its Conny size, and the Aquila (exploration variant) is $275, and i think there'll be a trade off with fewer weapons, lower cargo capacity, possibly no rover (makes sense to include one if it can) but high end exploration systems in there.
Basically giving up some versatility for dedication to a role. The price will also go up, so $275 may end up $325 when bought at flyable phase.

Yeah, i love the info from RtV, its close to being the highlight of the SC week IMO. You'll get better AtV eps from time to time, due to good interviews or pics & video, but IMO RtV gets a lot of info out, answers a lot of questions people have, and gets snippets of info which isnt really at a point of showing it off so doesnt really get brought up.
I should also point out these aren't my notes, i pull them from SCBase and simply remove some formatting and remove bbcode we dont need here. I've mentioned this in the past and should have here, dont want to take credit for someone elses work etc.

Those cheap AMD Mustangs are going to be quite popular IMO, i'd rather have the fighter variant, but it'll be the one racing ship which we can buy (when they start selling them proper) and while i can see myself buying the others in-game, i dont want to have money in racing. Also, considering they have the full game too, and soon we'll have Alpha transfer options, it'll be the cheapest full game option by 25% roughly (seen them selling for $30 vs $40 for MR+) so for anyone looking to shed a few $$ on their game package ship to spend elsewhere, these will be fantastic, and a $60 value ($0 melt) which should CCU to a >$60 ship for less than their $30 would.

Gladius via CCU would be $30 (AMD) + [difference from $60 to Gladius price, $30 likely], so a $60 Gladius which INCLUDES the final game!
If thats not a bargin, i dunno what is. Likewise any other ship, Hornet, Freelancer etc.
Anything you save when buying the Mustang code for less than $60, is a saving against something CCU'd later.

Must admit I didn't like the concept art for the Mustang but having seen it in the hangar I'm pretty keen on it, not sure I'd want the racer though (have a 350R) although it could be more fun to fly.

Edit: Just to say there's a guy selling 3 AMD gold codes on the MM just now at £30 a pop.

I'm a sucker for the race ships, got both the M50 and 350r. The M50 is much more agile but the 350r has the top speed so that is the one I'm currently trying to master.

Got my lap time down to 1:04:00 so far for the first race.

I don't know which herald concept I prefer - the asymmetric one has charm but this quad flap version looks the business. I don't mind either way.

In other news, just picked up my t16000m. :) Having not owned a stick for years, I forgot how huge they are - the base of this thing is massive. I have my peripherals on an ikea laptop desk for comfort, and this thing barely fits on it with the keyboard and mouse!

Anyway, looking forward to giving it a spin, especially when they give us free M50s for this week. I want to try HOJAM in decoupled mode for maximum control and precision.

That's the beauty of the CH Pro Throttle, don't need a keyboard when you have that stick :) actually don't need voice attack either as it's got so many functions on it!

Slight problem - I had sent a message to customer support asking to remove my Freelancer package and restore my 315P package (to free up some credit for the carrack ;)).

All good - Allie said it should be fine, but unfortunately I only just managed to deal with the reply before end of their working hours it seems. Had to melt my Freelancer, but too late to restore the 315P (with alpha access), so it looks like I won't be able to play till Monday. :/

This is why I wish they'd separate the website/account from the game launcher account - then I could lend you may account without worrying about my ships going walkies or my org changing ownership lol

I've had replies over the weekend, i think i had one early Saturday morning for something i expected would take them a couple of days to get around to, as the US side answered it. Might be different if its already assigned to Allie.
Did they say you needed to melt the Freelancer for them to do it? Im surprised they couldnt simply melt for funds and unmelt the 315. Maybe thats something they dont like to do, melting peoples ships, whereas simply restoring a ship with account credit causes no issues.

I can only imagine the sale figures from selling the Carrack, when so much of the community is primarily interested in exploration, this is the flagship explorer, and it looks fantastic (internally) too.
Poor Constellations, sold for scrap before they've even fired up a thruster.

Im not overly bothered about the exploration, but i think its going to be a lot of fun with a handful of people in there and seeing whats out there. So many of the other ships i look at as needing people supporting, like a Reclaimer or Orion, you'd want people in backup and unless you've got say 50ppl in the org, and you can fill an industrial ship or 2, and provided the backup, i think most of them will be NPC filled seats to make up the numbers. Exploration strikes me as something you'd do with 1 ship, maybe a couple of long-range fighters for backup, but not 4-6 small fighters on armed guard cos the ship is a sitting duck otherwise.

Very good point on splitting the account & launcher up. Hopefully once they've got the social module in place it wont be long till we'll be able to enable shared access to our ships with orgs we want to share with.
I think the problem with creating short term solutions for issues they have now, which have proper long term solutions planned to resolve these issues, is it kinda becomes pointless work which has no long term benefit, and delays them getting to the ultimate goal.

Manning ships is going to be hard unless like you say we fill them with NPCs, which raises cost, I'm someone who will likely be a crew member on another persons ship a majority of the time - I just think it sounds more fun, or potentially flying support/cover. We've a few in the org who feel that way, so hopefully we can do a few nights with an Idris or couple of Connies/Carracks for a laugh with a few support ships and NPCs manning the less vital stations if it comes down to it.

Hoping they add in some facility for org hangars, most of my ships would go straight in there for others to use.

Yeah, but it's no big deal for me to wait a few days. :)

Well I didn't have enough credit on my account and she said yes either melting the Freelancer or adding more credit, and I would get alpha access back. I'm sure it'll be fine, just got to wait a bit. A least it'll give me $50 credit to put towards the carrack.

Regarding exploration - unless it's absolutely necessary, I don't plan to fly with escorts - I intend to focus heavily on defence through armour, shields, engines, possible ewar countermeasures, good sensors to see and avoid threats before they become a threat, and minimising signature as much as is reasonable for a ship of this size. Hopefully that will be possible.
