Manning ships is going to be hard unless like you say we fill them with NPCs, which raises cost, I'm someone who will likely be a crew member on another persons ship a majority of the time - I just think it sounds more fun, or potentially flying support/cover. We've a few in the org who feel that way, so hopefully we can do a few nights with an Idris or couple of Connies/Carracks for a laugh with a few support ships and NPCs manning the less vital stations if it comes down to it.

Hoping they add in some facility for org hangars, most of my ships would go straight in there for others to use.

Yeah, im not really seeing myself as much of a pilot for combat, even in BF i've always preferred the gunner seat over driver/pilot. With the trade & mining (ore, scrap or gas) related stuff, i think i'll be flying them from time to time, but when it comes to combat, i'd rather let someone else fly and take over from an NPC.
I'd imagine i'll end up buying 5 character/NPC slots provided they're say $10 each, and hopefully you wont need to pay them a wage, and if you do, just flick through the characters once a week and empty their accounts. Hopefully they'll work for no pay, just to save that faffing (its probably taxed too). Having NPCs in a few hornets and doing the odd Starfarer run in say med-sec space would be possible on my own from time to time, as i do like playing after midnight for a few hours.

Regarding exploration - unless it's absolutely necessary, I don't plan to fly with escorts - I intend to focus heavily on defence through armour, shields, engines, possible ewar countermeasures, good sensors to see and avoid threats before they become a threat, and minimising signature as much as is reasonable for a ship of this size. Hopefully that will be possible.

Thats a very good point, i've always thought of exploration being 1 ship, the idea of taking other ships along isnt as fun IMO, and hopefully using the measures you list would be a great way to hopefully avoid it. Focus on avoiding conflict, rather than increasing the likelihood of being spotted and needing to use the firepower.
It'd be good if you could mount ewar weapons on any turrets too (assuming they work like that), and avoid conflict in a non-aggressive manner.

I really hope things like this are viable, without being OP and people focus either on 100% defensive or offensive stances. Hopefully the heavily NPC filled universe will help too.

I think good sensors and getting into the habit of performing sweeps in different frequency bands before entering an area will likely be the bread and butter of avoiding conflict and staying alive in this case.

I fully expect to run into encounters I can't avoid, but hopefully it will be possible to reduce that to 10% of the time, through knowing your ship inside out and knowing how to upgrade it suitably.

In the case of an unavoidable encounter, that's where the armour/shields/ewar and engine upgrades will come into effect - hopefully being good enough to buy time and space to escape.

Yeah, first priority would be to avoid contact, and when thats not possible, the next best thing has to be survival. If you can stay alive long enough for backup to be called in, or perhaps even help from someone passing by. Im guessing distress calls could be done like this for a reward.

I completely forgot about distress calls. :o

Hoping that I'll rarely be in that kind of situation.

Where the carrack is concerned, it should really be top dog when it comes to keeping your eyes and ears open.

Have you got backer status? I.e have you actually spent money in the pledge store?

The AMD Omega bundle is a package, but you don't get Backer status without spending money in the store.

If not, then that's the reason why.

Yeah that could be it, you only need to spend as little a $5/£3.30 to be considered a backer.....it also means you get included in future stretch goal rewards too.

Just grab a $5 ship skin, you will be able to melt it for creds and buy something else whenever you want

I'm actually thinking about the Aurora MR, its £18, really not bad.
