I think it could be done really well with careful sound design. Ambient sounds of your ship, sensors, proximity voices for people nearby, radio chatter etc. Then ambient stuff being yanked away when depressurised for example. Don't let CIG know I said that, it would easily be another 5 years to implement

To some extent they do a bit of this already, the audio changes when you are in a depressurised environment and I believe I remember seeing reference to an emp potentially taking out your sensors that are relaying the sounds etc

On a side note I always used to play star citizen with just my TV speakers, recently started using my headphones and wow what a difference. From the crunch of snow under my boots to the sounds of my ship, it was incredible how much detail I was missing... the sound design on this game is incredible.

Oh yeah, but I mean in space games in general. You won't hear the pew pew unless it's hitting you, and real life fighter aircraft have all sorts of sensory cues, audio, visual etc
 
So, how do people actually have fun in this game.

Having a go of the free fly event, 3 server disconnects and 15 mins of qt to do a eliminate mission, to then have a 10 minute pew pew and then he crashes into me killing me instantly.

What am I missing?

Imagination.

we had so much fun in the Alpha 2.6 and there was barley anything you could do... you make your own fun.

Its a different sort of game from 'Load it up and get instant action'

The point is its not on rails, there are no limits or boarders and its HUGE, if you have to go evict a bunch outlaws from an underground bunker on Mars you have to get there from where you currently are, like click a button to enter a load screen and you're there 15 seconds later, that's not what this game is, if you're on the Space Station CRU L1 you're 30 Million KM away, you have a ship, you need to use it to get there and it takes some minutes to travel 30 Million KM.
 
I wasn't trying to be negative lads, just not sure where to start.

I like the space/fps combo and think this will be a good game. Preference will be on the shooter aspect, but the mission options don't seem to be shooter related.
